The Charlottemecklenburg Police Department is partnering with auto thefts. They want you to take your keys out of the ignition when you get out of your vehicle. We have mor program. I am here outside the quick trip on wilkinson. Police have been handing out coupons for a free coffee or soda for anybody who shows them the keys, which means that consider car is not being stolen. There are three other quick the same thing. They are doing it because they have seen a spike in car thefts, from november to a few days ago in february, 85 vehicles with keys in the ignition, up 67 last year. They are stolen usually by juveniles, skipping school, or breaking into houses. It is one of the things, if we can lower that number, it helps many other areas.
