Lets begin with meteorologist bill henley and his first alert forecast. Bill, are you seeing any sun out there yet . Good morning, chris. Not yet, but we will see a break through the clouds that are with us to start with. Those clouds will be thinning out, and once the sun is up, our chances of seeing that sunshine will increase dramatically. Thats a live view from center city. 42 degrees, thanks to the clouds. Temperatures didnt get all that cold overnight at 42 here at nbc 10. 41 in allentown, reading, pottstown. Trenton is at 40 and low 40s across delaware and south jersey. Nice, uniform temperatures with the clouds overhead. The clouds will be thinning out after a cloudy start. 41 degrees at 7 00, 42 at 9 00, and then into the middle 40s at lunchtime. Good morning to you at home as well. For the most part, majors are looking pretty good with the exception of this one problem that we are following out of new jersey. We are dealing with an accident in maple shade right now on route 73, the northbound side out near high street and near route 38. You can see this ramp is blocked as a result of all of this activity from that accident. We have applicatipolice and firt the scene. Not many details about exactly what happened, but as we get them, we will pass them along to you. Thats something we will continue to follow. As far as pennsylvania majors, you can see 76, the blue route, even 95 clear of any incidents. Right now were not reporting any delays on those majors. Chris . All right, two minutes after 4 00. Lets get back to the breaking news we are following out of philadelphias mayfair neighborhood. Nbc 10s jesse gary live on scene, where jesse, we know that police have shot a suspect. What else do we know at this point . Reporter chris, the suspects body is still inside this ambulance thats parked here at the scene. Initially, they thought he may have a pulse. And so, medics were brought in and they were about to transport him to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead inside the ambulance, so theyre keeping his body here as part of the scene and the evidence as they do their investigation. You see Philadelphia Police officers and commanders with the 15th district here on scene. This shooting happened maybe 3035 minutes ago. Were on frankford avenue in between mcgee and unrue. That white charger that you see right there, investigators say that was initially stopped because it might have been involved in a robbery. They were checking to see. They say the suspect had a gun inside the car. Some kind of struggle ensued and one of two Philadelphia Police officers fired one time, killing the suspect. One officer has been taken to an area hospital for evaluation while they complete their investigations here. Community. That will be coming up at 4 30. Live in mayfair, jesse gary, nbc 10 news. Chris . Breaking news now from the other side of the world in australia, where a hostage situation is unfolding in sydney, australia. So far, we know that five people have escaped a cafe where a gunman took an unknown number of hostages at the height of the monday morning rush hour. This began when witnesses say a man carrying a bag that appeared to be containing a gun entered the store. Shortly after, dozens of armed Police Showed up at the scene. People inside were seen standing inside the cafe with their hands pressed against the glass. You saw that video there. Authorities believe as many as 50 people are inside that cafe. Two people were taken holding up a black flag with islamic writing on it. Six hours after the situation began, three men ran from a back exit of the cafe. Shortly afterward, two women believed to be employees also ran from the cafe and sprinted into the arms of police. The australian Prime Minister, tony abbott, says his thoughts and prayers are with the hostages. I can think of almost nothing more distressing or terrifying than to be caught up in such a situation. Our hearts go out to those people. Now, police dont believe anyone has been hurt at this point. A lot of Media Outlets are reporting that the hostagetaker has made demands by having some of the hostages contact news outlets in australia, demanding to speak with the australian Prime Minister and also demanding an isis flag. Also happening today, former philadelphia sportscaster Don Tollefson will find out his sentence for a charity scam. A bucks county judge will sentence tollefson this afternoon. He pleaded guilty to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Prosecutors say he stole tickets and travel packages to sporting events with the promise of money going to charity, but instead, he pocketed that money for himself. Tollefson said during his plea that hes been battling addiction for decades. He could spend more than 30 years behind bars and may have to pay more than 300,000 in restitution. Six minutes after 4 00 now. To the casino crisis in atlantic city. Today is the deadline to save the trump taj mahal. The owners of that casino say its main Workers Union backed out of a deal that would have kept the casino open and saved 3,000 jobs. The union now has until 5 00 p. M. Today to drop its appeal of a courtordered costcutting move that cancels Workers Health insurance and pension plan. The taj is set to close december 20th. It would become the fifth of the citys 12 casinos to shut down this year. Trump plaza, revel, showboat and the Atlantic Club have all closed since january, leaving about 10,000 people out of work. All right, now to this bitter news. Its a tough morning for eagles fans after last nights loss to the cowboys. And you knew it was going to be a long night when the eagles fumbled the opening kickoff and dallas jumped out to a 210 lead before the eagles even had a positive yardage. The eagles did battle back. Chris folk had two touchdowns. Darren sproles added a score in the Third Quarter as the eagles rallied to take the lead, but it was a brief one. The cowboys and dez bryant were just too much down the stretch. Bryant had three touchdown catches and the birds lost 3827, giving dallas first place in the nfc east. New jersey governor Chris Christies choice of seating at last nights game caused quite a stir on social media. The governor seen celebrating dallas touchdowns as he sat in a box next to cowboys owner jerry jones. My, my, the people were tweeting about this. Christie was all smiles as he highfived and celebrated when the cowboys scored. He was invited to sit in the owners box with jerry jones for last nights game at lincoln financial field. The Dallas Cowboys win moved them into first place in the nfc east, as you know. That could be another reason why this video has fans so upset. Take a look at some of the reaction from twitter and some of the most heated tweets came from philadelphia councilman jim kenny. In one of the tweets, he said hey fat blank christie, kiss jerry joness blank in his box in dallas, not across the river from philly. You are just a creep and in another dhani jones just flipped you the bird, christie go home, take the state helicopter, creep we reached out by twitter and by councilman kenny. After a cloudy start, we will see more and more sunshine. The clouds will be out of here today only to see them return tomorrow, tracking for our area some rain tomorrow, as the temperatures are nice and mild. Thats some nice snow pack, getting ready for a great ski day today. Winds not going to be too strong. Well get some breaks in the clouds in the pocono mountains with temperatures near 40 degrees this afternoon. Satellite shows the clouds still here, staying with us through the weekend, but the next batch of clouds moving into the midwest. Those are the rainproducers for tomorrow. For today, youll see decreasing clouds, a little bit of a breeze. Not all that strong. Going to be out of the northwest 4 to 9 miles an hour. A philadelphia attorney accused of paying for a teen sex slave goes to court today. Why his alleged victims testimony has investigators looking for other victims. Black lives do matter. Kings daughter, bernice king says her brothers want to sell those items. They claim their sister removed the items from their fathers estate and hid them. Friends of the alleged victim of a gang rape at a university of virginia frat house say they encourage the victim to contact police. Three of the victims friends say they were wrongfully portrayed in a recent Rolling Stone article as uncaring people who were more concerned about their reputations than the victims wellbeing. In that article, the alleged victim said she was gang raped by seven men at a Fraternity House in 2012. An independent investigator has been hired to look into allegations and how the school handled the case. 15 minutes after 4 00 now. A former cia official who oversaw the agencys Interrogation Program says the Senate Report that was released last week threw the cia under the bus. Jose rodriguez headed the counterterrorism section. He says that report on harsh interrogation methods betrays intelligence officials and will erode their trust in future president ial administrations. And former Vice President dick cheney and other critics of that report echoed rodriguezs concerns, but republican senator john mccain, who is a former prisoner of war, defended the Senate Intelligence committee report. He says what we need to do now is come clean, move forward and vow not to do it again. A report on recent secret Service Security lapses is expected to be released today. Lawmakers asked for an independent review after the september 19th incident when a man jumped over the fence at the white house and made it all the way into the first familys residence. That breach and several others led to the resignation of former secret Service Director julia pierson. A new case of mumps in the National Hockey league is causing concern for players and the people around them. Look at this. Pittsburgh penguins start Sidney Crosby showed the telltale symptoms of a swollen, chipmunklike face this past week. Hes been sid lined after testing positive for mumps. Crosby is one of at least a dozen players from five teams who have come down with that highly contagious disease. Flyers general manager ryan hexall says he is concerned for his players and theyre taking extra precautions. Wash your hands and vaccines and Everything Else you can do. Mumps was thought to be eradicated with vaccines, but people often skip their booster shots, and over time, the immunity can wear off. A preliminary hearing is scheduled today for a philadelphia attorney whos accused of paying to have sex with a teenage girl more than 20 times. Prosecutors say brian meehan had sex with that 14yearold girl on all of those occasions at his law office in center city. Meehan worked at one penn center at 16th and jfk boulevard. Prosecutors say the teenager testified to a grand jury that meehan told her he knew she was 14 and also told her that he had had sex with a 12yearold. A couple accused of selling the teenager as a sex slave and holding her inside this germantown home is also facing charges. Also happening today, the trial is scheduled to begin for this man accused of killing a south philadelphia bartender. Police say in june 2012, omar wright stabbed george fox twice in the chest while fox was working at tbars bar at eighth and jackson street. Investigators say wright and his police robbed that bar. Donations are pouring in to help the family left homeless by a fire in Delaware County. The fire that killed a woman and left a man in critical condition. A look here at some of the items that have been dropped off at the lower chichester volunteer fire department. A 62yearold woman was killed in that fire early saturday morning. Three children and their father were hurt. The kids are expected to be released from the hospital in the next few days, but their dad is in critical condition. Investigators believe the fire started on the back porch, but theyre still searching for an exact cause. A different Delaware County family is getting help from the red cross after fire destroyed their home on 22nd street in chester yesterday. The family of eight was able to escape after the basement of the home caught fire. Firefighters had some extra obstacles to overcome after one of their hoses broke and they had to run back to the truck to pull another inside. The cause of that fire also still under investigation. Well, today is the deadline to sign up for Health Insurance under the Affordable Care act. You have to enroll by the end of the day today in order to have coverage beginning january 1st.
