No accidents and no delays to report. Chris . 4 02 now, and we have breaking news in the search for that air asia flight 8501 that vanished more than 24 hours ago with 162 people on board. Nbc 10s Tracy Davidson is live in our Digital Operations Center monitoring all of the news on this developing story. Tracy, what have search crews found . Chris, just over an hour ago, an indonesian official announced that a search plane had spotted some suspicious objects about 700 miles from where the plane lost contact. Heres what we know. The air asia flight took off from indonesias surabaya airport, heading to singapore. Less than an hour into the flight, the pilot contacted air Traffic Control to request an increase in altitude because of rough weather, but that request was denied. Right now, search crews are moving in the direction where those objects were found, but theyre not sure yet if they are part of the missing plane. And the man in charge of searchandrescue efforts said the plane is likely at the bottom of the sea. We are also learning more about the pilot, who is described as experienced with more than 20,000 flying hours. Air asia is based in malaysia. This comes five months after the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight 17 over ukraine and nine months after the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight 370, which, as you know still remains a mystery. New from overnight, we have confirmed that a row home fire killed two people. It happened last night on spruce street in reading. Someone who was in the area at the time of the fire snapped this photo. We found it using our social media discovery app, banjo. Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the fire, but officials do confirm that two people died. Its not known how many were inside the home when the fire started. In Bucks County Police say a man who shot an intruder who was trying to break into his apartment will not face charges. This happened last night along bobolink drive in bensalem. Investigators say the burglar had hit one apartment already and was trying to get into another when shots were fired. A witness in the first apartment says she saw the man touching himself inappropriately. Then he dove through a glass window with her dog. What he was looking for, were not really sure but one homeowner, he confronted one homeowner who stood his ground and fired twice, shooting him hitting him both times. Now, the suspect who was shot is in Critical Condition this morning. This morning, Gloucester County prosecutors will begin piecing together a tragedy involving a 10yearold boy and a police car that some say was speeding. That boy was crossing the street around 7 00 last night at delsea drive and paul street when he was hit and killed by a Franklin Township police cruiser. Jesse, a question that everyone is asking here is did the officer have his lights on flashing and sirens on when he was responding at the time the boy was hit . Reporter chris, that is still unclear. Theyre trying to piece that together. I have reached out to the department to find out what their policy is governing the use of lights and sirens. The accident happened just after 7 00 last night as the victim and two friends walked to a sleepover. The boys family says a 10yearold crossed delsea drive, which is also route 42 and was hit and killed by the officer. The two other children were unharmed. Witnesses say the patrol car did not have flashing lights and a siren activated. Police have not confirmed or refuted that account. Here a man was hit and killed by a car yesterday evening in Burlington County. It happened on south Church Street between Academy Drive and st. David drive in mt. Laurel. Police say the man, whose name has not been released was walking in the northbound lanes when the car hit him. The driver stayed on scene after the crash. 4 06 now, and happening today in Montgomery County several people who were charged in a penndot Corruption Scandal are scheduled to appear in court. Ten people are accused in an overbilling scheme that prosecutors say cost taxpayers 1. 2 million. Two penndot managers and eight contractors are charged in this case. The attorney general says those managers took kickbacks to look the other way, ignoring falsified time sheets and mileage reports. Today, seven of the defendants will have a preliminary hearing. Today, a philadelphia lawmaker will call for support of police and for changes in the relationship between Law Enforcement and the public. State representative Curtis Thomas will hold a News Conference at 11 00 a. M. A statement from his office says thomas will call for the expansion of Police Advisory committees, regular Police Meetings with the community and additional bike police. Everybodys life matters. In northeast philadelphia a church spread the message that black lives matter. A large group gathered at the Baptist Worship Center on james street for a special service yesterday. They prayed for peace and talked about ways to bridge the gap between Law Enforcement and the community. Know that all lives matter. But we are bringing the church and the Community Together just to keep these issues before the people. The church also has a program in which Police Officers talk to members of the community about how to interact with police. Happening today, preparations are under way for the annual new years eve Fireworks Show along the delaware river. Well the mummers are putting finishing touches on their performances for the new years celebration, but this years parade will be a bit different, definitely shorter. Organizers say declining membership soaring costs and elaborate productions have prompted some changes. This year the parade has a new, shorter route, which is expected to save money on police overtime. The mummers say they expect about 8,000 participants. Now, about a decade ago, that number was as high as 12,000 but the mummers say fewer performers will not take away from the show. Its amazing. Ive been doing this a long time. The first large group of survivors from that fire aboard a greek ferry has arrived at a port in italy. Nearly 50 people were on board the rescue ship but more than 200 passengers and crew remained stranded on the burning ferry between italy and albania in the adriatic sea. A surfer in california survived a shark attack over the weekend. The man was pulled under water by a young great white shark who bit down on his hip. The surfer was able to paddle to shore, where he used the leash cord from his surfboard to make a tourniquet. Two doctors who just happened to be at the beach were able to help the man until he was airlifted to a hospital. Amazing. Here at home Philadelphia Police are investigating an Armed Robbery outside Temple University hospital. A hospital employee was robbed late last night along north broad street near tioga in north philadelphia. The campus Police Department sent text alerts to students letting them know about the incident. Two people are in the hospital after this car crashed into a home in longcrest yesterday. The car landed on its roof. Philadelphia police tell nbc 10 the car was speeding when it tore through a backyard took out several tree branches and crashed into a porch knorr street. Police say the female passenger was taken to Einstein Medical Center in Critical Condition. The driver a man, was in stable condition at the hospital. This morning, friends and family are remembering a young girl who captured the hearts of people nationwide as she battled a devastating illness. Hannah ginion lost that battle with krab yea disease yesterday, shy of her second birthday. Her family posted this message on Facebook Hannah was called home to be with the angels. She went peacefully. Please keep us all in your prayers during this difficult time. And hundreds attended a vigil in hannahs honor at the john fitch school in levittown. The disease is a rare genetic disorder that damages the nervous system. Her family says if she had been diagnosed at birth, she could have gotten better. Now there is a new law to test for crawbay and other disorders in newborns. She changed the world and were so blessed to have everybody here for us because its something you cant go through alone. We wouldnt have gone through this if it wasnt for everybody here all these people. They all played their own little parts in every step of the way. Well there is no cure for crawbay disease. It is very rare and only affects about 1 in every 100,000 people. Medical experts in west africa say malaria is killing thousands of more people than ebola. According to doctors, the push to stop ebola has actually hurt the countrys battle with malaria, which is a preventible and treatable disease.
