A philadelphia woman and her young daughter fighting for their lives this morning as Police Continue to look for the driver of the car that left them lying in the street. Around 7 00 the woman was carrying her 2yearold son when a car hit them and just kept going. Nbc 10s jesse gary is live outside of Saint Christophers Hospital. Thats where the boy is being cared for . Reporter thats right. He is in very Critical Condition right now and his mother is at temple hospital. Near a playground in the 2700 block of mascher street. Witnesses say a nissan was driving down the road. The 19yearold was knocked under the pickup truck and the child was thrown to the curb. We have a good amount of witnesses that saw the accident but some saw the aftermath of the vehicle and the striking vehicle traveling west on lehigh. Were pretty confident we can identify the vehicle and the occupants. Police have surveillance video, what they believe to be the vehicle leaving the scene. Were editing that. Less than an hour before that hit and run a driver ran over and killed a 4yearold boy in philadelphia. That driver also took off. It happened on south 57 street in the king sussing. Witnesses tried to help but couldnt save the boy. The boy was carrying a toy as he crossed the street around 6 30 last night. Surveillance video captured the black suv that slammed into the child. The impact threw the driver 20 feet. The boys mother rushed to the scene minutes after the accident. Horrible to watch because she was just crying, crying for the babys name. It was so horrible. Now police are looking for a black suv, again, on the right side of your screen here possibly a ford edge. A woman was driving at the time. If you have any information that can help call philadelphia police. New from overnight, a 26yearold man is in stable condition after being shot in the leg. It happened just after 12 30 at 22nd and susquehanna in millville. Sky force 10 was over the scene of a shooting in camden street. It happened on van buren. Police are using flashlights to look for clues in the area. They tell us a woman believed to be in her late 20s was shot twice. She was taken to cooper hospital. No word on her condition and Police Continue to look for the shooter. Police are investigating a crash involving a car and a motorcycle. It happened on clemons road in gloucester township. 4 05. Now to the political chaos in a Delaware County community. Police had to step in to break up shouting matches outside colwyn borough hall. Reporter yeah, there was a lot of screaming and shouting going on just outside of borrow hall. There could be some confrontations going on there today. You will not intimidate me. Reporter the reaction was in response to the controversial firing of borough manager, paula brown. The chaos began to unfold last thursday. The council of the cash strapped borough reaffirmed their decision to let brown go as a cost saving measure. That speaks volumes that they are not confident to run a government. The governor needs to come down here. Somebody needs to come down here. Reporter also last night as you can see the Council President authorized the locks of the town hall to keep paula brown out as she vowed not to leave. Fred lescher is expected to be at borough hall. Theyre going to go over the payroll and the budget as the borough is facing a 1 million deficit. Brown says she will be at borough hall today to collect some belongsings and getting some papers ready. Im rosemary connors, nbc 10 news. 7 minutes after 4 00 happening today, leaders in Chester County may sign off on a controversial plan that would bring a gas pipeline through a crowded community. Sunoco wanted to build a pipeline. Neighbors fought the plan over safety concerns. Recently though sunoco agreed to modify an existing station rather than building a new one and add safety features to the pipeline. The townships lawyers have recommended that supervisors approve the settlement. Tonight the board will share more details with citizens at a meeting at westchester east high school. There is a vigil tonight for a Cumberland County man who was killed during a crime spree. He was killed after a fight and Home Invasion led to two separate shootings. Police have not found the killer. Family members are holding a vigil on montrose street where he died. They will announce a reward for information leading to an arrest. The second trial of a couple accused of abusing and neglecting their three young foster children continues in newark today. They arrested Army Major John jackson and his wife carol at their home in mount holly. Theyre accused of withholding food and water, hitting them and forcing them to drink hot sauce. Their first trial last year ended in a mistrial. The Montgomery County man sentenced to death for the murders of a 10 month old baby and her grandmother said he wants to be executed immediately. He had an appeal hearing and he said he was not happy with his attorneys and he wants to be executed now. He claims that his attorneys are now ignoring his calls and letters. His attorneys deny those allegations. Last october a jury convicted him of the killings during a botched kidnapping plot in king of prussia in order to pay off a gambling debt. Today pennsylvania lawmakers will take up a reform bill designed to lower property taxes across the state. That bill would raise personal income and sales tax rates and return that new revenue to taxpayers through relief from School Property taxes. The bills sponsor says homeowners could eventually see a 40 to 60 savings. The House Finance committee will hold a hearing today in harrisburg. People of new jersey will voice their concerns over recent cuts and proposed cuts to the states food stamp program. Nbc 10s matt delucia explains. Explain the cuts. Reporter one in ten depends on food stamps. They say that cuts to the snap program that manages the food stamps, more stress is placed on the food pantries. The food bank estimates that roughly 160,000 new jersey residents lost about 90 a month in food stamp assistance with the most recent cuts and more cuts are likely over the next decade. Without that money some people go to food pan tris. Rosa penia works the pantry at Saint Andrews church in camden. In seven years she says the demand has grown. Most of the time shes running out of food before everyone can be served. Most of the complaints we have are the cuts. Thats all the story you hear. Delaware residents who receive food stamps are getting help. The u. S. Department of agriculture made that announcement yesterday about a test program that would train people to match them directly with employers helping them get jobs. The 19 Million Program will help people who are getting snap food benefits help them get unemployment or better jobs. I was working part time. I have a fulltime job and i have a 14yearold girl to take care of and i have bills to take care of. Better paying job. About 20 of the 150,000 delaware residents will be eligible for the program. The other 80 are seniors, children, or people already in the work force. 4 17. Todays democratic candidate Hillary Clinton is taking her campaign to iowa traveling in a van. While on the road clinton tweeted out this picture from a gas station in al tuna. And this one from chipotle. She has a twoday swing through iowa. We spoke to senator chris coombs about whether hell support Hillary Clinton. I think secretary clinton will have good and strong ideas and for making america stronger. If she were the nominee of the democratic party, she would have my support. The white house said president obama will not formally endorse clinton any time soon. Hes reportedly staying out of it because other friends might run. Vice President Biden is considered a possible candidate. Marco rubio made it official. The first term senator declared himself a new generation candidate. He talked about his cuban immigrant parents who worked as a bartender and maid. Rubio said we need new leaders and new ideas. Before us now is the opportunity to author the greatest chapter yet in the amazing story of america, but we cant do that by going back to the leaders and ideas of the past. We must change the decisions we are making by changing the people who are making them. Rubio is the third republican to declare hes running.
