The first batch of rain, showers, light stuff, moving through the allentown area and off through easton right now. Those showers will be on the move. It will be on and off to start with. Pottstown getting a few sprinkles at this time. Theyre heading towards richland. Those showers will be getting stronger as the day goes on. Well see the showers and theyll be lingering into the afternoon. Right now, though, temperatures, much warmer than yesterday morning. 49 degrees in new jersey. Low 50s in the suburbs. Grab your umbrella, those showers will be with us for much of the day. Right now, cloudy and 54, the forecast for the Lehigh Valley up to 58 degrees in philadelphia today. Hillary clinton could not get to 270. Lets take a map of the Electoral College votes. This map dominated by red. These numbers updated, trump 278 to clintons 218. Whats been key is getting states like pennsylvania. These battleground states, ohio, North Carolina and florida. The republican nominee waited until 3 00 this morning to greet his supporters at the hilton hotel in midtown manhattan. Trump and his family congratulated the vice presidenc to be mike pence and his family. When he got to the microphone, the first thing on trumps agenda was to let the world know his opponent conceded the race. Ive just received a call from secretary clinton. She congratulated us. Its about us, on our victory and i congratulated her and her family on a very, very hardfought campaign. You are now looking at the last time we saw Hillary Clinton in public when she was voting yesterday morning near her home in chappaqua, new york. Her campaign chairman, john podesta addressed clintons disappointed supporters in manhattan around 2 00 this morning. Theyre still counting votes and every vote should count. At one point, the dow was down about 800 points. In the last few hours its been down about 300 points. All night long, voters across the nation and here at home watched and wait for the official announcement. Donald trump talked about bringing the country back together after a divisive campaign, he talked about the need to bind the wounds of division. What do people think this morning who are waking up to this news . Monique braxton is live at the trenton train station where passengers will soon be arriving to head to new york. Monique, what are they telling you . No one has arrived here yet. The train station here, the Trenton Transit Center is closed but in just a few hours, people will be arriving here who have come from bucks county as well as trenton to head to new york. Some of them will be waking up and finding out for the first time that the republican president ial candidate has won this election. So we have some folks that weve talked to in the wee hours of the morning and we gauge their reaction. Its a debacle. Its sad. I think this whole election all they have done is argue about each other instead of saying what they were going to do for this country. Thats pretty much what this election has been about, them against each other. I like the fact that he doesnt have a lot of tact. I love the fact that hes not in politics. I think we need something different. Lets run this as a business. Hes not the greatest businessman of all time but everyone in the world knows who he is. He has some sort of pull. I mean, he has to be doing something right. As you heard, the views are going to be mixed. Probably that is just a sampling of what were going to hear all day long. Some of the suburbs and the Lehigh Valley are seeing the first rain drops of the day. Theyll be moving in this morning into philadelphia. Easton getting some very light rainfall. Were not looking at heavy rainfall but its not going to be that beautiful sunshine that we enjoyed yesterday. For now, just a few scattered showers have shown up on the radar. Those showers are on the move. You can see the steadier rainfall is well to the west in the harrisburg area and rain and that will be moving into the area. The few showers were looking at right now in montgomery and bucks county, moving past salasburg and richland and bedminster, very light rainfall to start with. It is not heavy rainfall by any means. It will be a steady, light rainfall this morning. This afternoon, perkasie and much of the rest of the area going to be back to the scattered showers for this afternoon. 9 00 this morning, rain for allentown, trenton, philadelphia, wilmington, dover and into cape may. The first rain drops will be moving in and it spreads across the rest of new jersey. Meantime at noontime, you can see there will be breaks in the precipitation. Still a steady light rain for allentown and trenton. Well see some breaks in philadelphia, wilmington and dover. As we go into the afternoon, the next phase of the rain coming in, again, its going to be light rain, no steady, heavy rain. Even moderate showers are a long way from us. They will be coming through even in the Late Afternoon and early evening hours will be drying out later this evening and overnight. Its all going to keep things cool today. Not as cold as yesterday morning. 46 degrees right now in the Lehigh Valley. 49 in delaware. 50 for the suburbs and just shy of the 50 degree mark for south jersey. Much warmer at the shore. Temperatures are really going nowhere today at the shore. A few neighborhoods are a bit cooler in the 40s for chestnut hill, andorra, manayunk and parkside. Very low 50s in northeast philadelphia. Parkwood, bustleton, torresdale, into the low 50s and will well stay in the 50s for most of the day. Grab your umbrella. Scattered rainfall this morning and showers this afternoon for philadelphia. Already starting to see a few rain drops in the suburbs by 7 00, a steadier rain and showery at 11 00. Still a chance of showers at 3 00 this afternoon. The Lehigh Valley, getting a little bit of shower activity right now and that chance of some rainfall will stay with us. Were looking at mostly cloudy skies for delaware and new jersey and the shore. Shore will eventually get some showers later this morning. Youll see them before that and delaware and new jersey and then tapering off, scattered showers as we go into the afternoon. The vine street expressway, open in both directions with 24th street, westbound towards the schuylkill. Everything looks great. The schuylkill expressway looks okay. You can see were at green on roads right here. Eastbound into center city from the blue route to the vine street expressway. Just 13 minutes. Speeds also into the high 50s. Watching University City for some construction. 33rd street is closed between Market Street and arch street and that will be there until friday the 11th. Its 4 11 right now. We knew pennsylvania would play a huge role in the president ial election. Across the state, every vote counted. We take a close look at how each county in our area voted in the race for president. Also, celebrating another term, pennsylvania senator pat toomey beat out his democratic rival. Up next we take you to both campaigns for their reaction. The billionaire businessman pulled a historic upset on Hillary Clinton by winning pennsylvania and other key battleground states. Clinton conceded to trump in a phone call just before 3 00 this morning. Nbc 10 got local reaction to the trump victory. This whole election, all they have done is argue about each other instead of saying what they were going to do for this country. Thats pretty much what this election has been about, them against each other. Who is going to do what, i couldnt tell you. Its against hillary and trump. That its all theyve argued about. The battleground state of pennsylvania proved to be one of the deciding factors in the race for president , flipping to republican for the First Time Since 1988. Nbc 10s Rosemary Connors joins us now for a look at how people across the keystone state voted. If donald trump was going to win pennsylvania he would have to come up big, flip pennsylvania from blue to red. Lets take a look at some of the counties. Philadelphia, overwhelmingly went for Hillary Clinton, 82 . Montgomery county, 59 for clinton, delaware county, similar story. Its when you get a little bit further out from philadelphia. Chester county still Hillary Clinton, we get to bucks, theyre split. Berks county went for donald trump. Lehigh county, Hillary Clinton but only by a few points and northampton county, again, to donald trump. This of course was a big story here in pennsylvania that if a person who is going to take pennsylvanias electoral votes they would have to get philadelphia, the surrounding counties and beyond to offset republican votes further out in the state. Well continue to follow this. We also are going to have more reaction from some of the voters in our area. Well hear more from donald trump coming up in 15 minutes. 4 15. Republican pat toomey will return to the senate. Nbc 10s Randy Gyllenhall was at his Lehigh County headquarters for his latenight victory speech. Take a look. It was a nail biter in the Pennsylvania Senate race. Pat toomey wins reelection. The balloons just fell from above as this crowd celebrates this lastminute win. Its about 1 00 in the morning right now. Senator toomey took the stage, telling the crowd he got a congratulatory phone call from his opponent, Katie Mcginty and added that hes ready to take the fight back to washington and shake things up. Lets face it, this was a tough campaign, quite a battle. There was an alltime record amount of money spent against us. A lot of the ads were just outright false. But you know, the voters were smart enough to figure it out as they usually are. Toomeys victory not a surprise. He did trail in a number of polls and had millions of dollars of negative ads run against him. His win also secures the u. S. Senate to be in republican hands, retenning that majority control. Pat toomey says hes ready to go back to washington. In Lehigh County, Randy Gyllenhall, nbc 10 news. Im here in center city. The room cleared out shortly after Katie Mcginty gave her speech, her concession speech to pat toomey. She was very gracious in defeat and earlier in the night, there was a lot of excitement in this room from supporters of both Katie Mcginty and Hillary Clinton. They wanted to see a very historic night and see Katie Mcginty become the first female u. S. Senator in pennsylvania. But that didnt happen. As the night continued, we saw a lot of people disappointed. A lot of long faces, some people didnt ev stay through most of the night. We spoke to a few of them, some of them are trying to look at some kind of silver lining, moving ahead. Katie mcginty said she doesnt know whats next but she will continue to spend time with her family in the meantime. And its 4 17 right now. In addition to the Pennsylvania Senate race, voters here also elected a new attorney general. Nbc 10s Pamela Osborne is live for us in center city to look at that race and other developments from new jersey and delaware. Pam, walk us through this. Yes, certainly a lot to get through this morning. Were going to break it all down for you. Lets start with the race for pa attorney general. [ no audio ] now to the race for governor in delaware. Democrat john carney beat republican colin bonini. In new jersey, voters reject a measure to allow casinos at two locations in north jersey. 78 of people voted no, 22 of people voted yes. This means casino gambling will remain legal only in atlantic city. The second ballot question in new jersey, whether the state should dedicate money from the recent gas tax increase to the states Transportation System 54 of people voted yes. 46 of people voted no. Now to the race in pennsylvanias second Congressional District, democrat dwight evans is the winner over republican james jones. Evans fills the seat of former congressman chaka fattah. Brian fitzpatrick defeated democrat Steve Santarsiero. Fitzpatrick will replace his brother, congressman Mike Fitzpatrick who is retiring. More results and reaction coming up. That will change as the morning progresses. Well see a rainy, cool day. Wont be an allday rain. In 1some areas it will be close to that. Even this evening, we clear out overnight tonight. That shower activity is to the west. What weve seen so far, just some scattered light showers in montgomery and bucks county. If you see one patch of very light rainfall moving past west rock hill and just into bedminster right now. Those showers to the west, that steadier, light rain. I think the heavier showers are going to miss us. We will get a nice rainfall out of this today and we need it, too. Drying will come tonight. You can see the showers, the scattered showers, the ohio valley, thats what im looking at for this evening. For today, that light rain will start adding up by 10 30 this morning, well see closing in on a quarter inch in wilmington and below a tenth inch in doylestown. Thats just Getting Started to go into the afternoon and evening hours. 6 00 tonight, the rain will still be coming down. By then, philadelphia will have a third inch on the ground, close to half an inch in poteaujy allentown and reading with less than a quarter in south jersey and smyrna, about a third inch there. It finally moves out, this evening could top half an inch of rain in wilmington. Well be drying out for tomorrow. But not today. The 10 day on 10, 58 degrees this afternoon.
