Were told that he was shot several times in the head and in the chest. Medics tried to revive the boy, but there was nothing that they could do. He was pronounced a short time later and now with no motive,ly say theyre still trying to piece this case together. We know that the shooter was in pretty close proximity to the 17yearold victim. Now, from first responding officers and witnesses, at the time the shots were fired, there was a basketball game going on on the Basketball Court, and right next to the Basketball Court, they were having a cookout. Reporter now, police right now scouring the area for the shooter. Witnesses say that the suspect fired off at least ten shots before taking off down eighth street. Luckily, no one else was hurt, but detectives at this point tell us that they are checking surveillance cameras in the area that point down to the Basketball Court. Theyre hoping that theyre able that they will be able to gather some video from this shooting in order to find the shooter. Thats the very latest from north philadelphia, nefertiti jj jaquez. Nbc 10 news. Tonight, cemetery vandals are wanted for desecrating graves. Dozens of grave site american flags and other decorations piled up an burned. Investigators count a total of three incidents happening at two bensalem cemeteries. Only a few miles apart over the past month. The most recent was just last night. Nbc 10s George Spencer went to both cemetery locations and, george, Police Believe the same person is responsible for all of this. Reporter jacqueline, investigators here tell me the vandalism is very similar from cemetery to cemetery, and now with three dozen different grave sites disturbed, three different families impacted, they hope to find these vandals before it happens again. Reporter for barb keenan, the loss of her father, an army veteran, is still raw and it felt fresh again as he rushed to worried about a case of cemetery vandalism. Tonight, we found the damage left behind. This mangled red, white, and blue in one spot, and a charred american mini flag pole in another. I was, like, very upset. I was heartbroken. I actually dont have any words because im, like, so upset right now. Reporter other families are feeling the same way. Police tell us theyre investigating three similar incidents all in bensalem. The most recent at Rosedale Memorial Park just last night. The two previous, at roosevelt memorial. In each case, the vandals steal grave site american flags, markers and flag holders plus other decorations and pile them up and set them on fire in the middle of the fight. To happen at two cemeteries a mile or two apart, clearly it seems like the same people doing this and upset over something. Reporter we watched tonight as word of the graveyard vandalism spread online provoking anger and disgust from concerned families. Whats more, given what the vandals stole, investigators suspect they may be targeting graves of those who served our country. Most of them are probably veterans graves because some of the burned materials were veteran flag holders for veterans so i would assume most of them are veterans. Im relieved that i came here and noticed that my parents grave was not touched. I feel horrible for the families who have to come here and find this stuff missing. Reporter of the three vandalism incidents, the two most recent have happened just since this past weekend. The first incident was several weeks ago, but it wasnt immediately reported. For now, police have added extra patrols to area cemeteries and they are hoping for tips from the public. Were live tonight in bensalem, im George Spencer, nbc 10 news. Tonight, in lehigh county, there was a shooting and a stabbing on a Basketball Court in allentown. Skyforce 10 over the Roosevelt Playground on south fillmore street. Police ait happened before 7 00. One person was shot. The other stabbed. We dont know their conditions. So far, no arrests. Also in allentown tonight, three people were hurt when they were hit by a car outside the allentown fairgrounds. Skyforce 10 over the scene at 19th and west liberty streets. Police tell us one of the victims, a 5yearold boy, hurt his leg badly and needs surgery. It happened around 6 30. The first alert weather radar is tracking hurricane cristobal as it churns off the east coast. While the storm wont hit us, its impact will be felt starting tomorrow. The rip current risk was already raised today, and with the addition of cristobal, it will be even more dangerous at the jersey shore tomorrow. First alert meteorologist Sheena Parveen is tracking the risks for beachgoers. Sheena . Thats right, jacqueline. The risks tomorrow will be once again a high risk along the shore, and it is because of the hurricane. It is still fairly far away, but as it even gets closer tomorrow, and even into thursday, it will be causing swells in the atlantic which will ultimately be affecting in the jersey shore and the delaware beaches with the rip current risk. So rip current risk stays into effect tonight through thursday. Strong rip currents, dangerous waters along the shore and the delaware beaches. So you really dont want to be swimming in these areas especially if there is no lifeguard present. The waters will be pretty dangerous. As we go into the weekend, aside from that, were also talking about warming temperatures for your labor day. Tomorrow will be another warm day. By 10 00 in the morning, 77 degrees. The house guest of two women murdered in philadelphia is charged in their executionstyle deaths. Police say james meres robbed the victims and shot the women inside their house in the holmesburg section of the city. Nbc 10s keith jones has more on the arrest and reaction from one victims son. We spoke with her son tonight. Hes still putting together the pieces. Treated james just like a son. Owed a couple dollars. Reporter hes still in shock. His mother, dolly evans, and friend ruby thomas were killed execution style saturday. The worst par, he lived with the man charged in their murders, a house guest, 25yearold james meres. James, my mom would have gave you the money. Reporter 500. Thats how much police say meres almost stole from them. They were nice enough to let him in, and unfortunately, that ended up causing them their lives. Reporter meres was in prison for Violent Crimes involving a gun. He lived with the two women for three months. He ultimately turned on them. He went to rob one of them, like i said, a slight struggle ensued, shot and killed her then went upstairs and killed the other female. Its just really bad, like, is im scared for my kids. Reporter shes not aloa lal. Others on the block were afraid to talk on camera fearing retribution. I just moved here. Its too much for me. My mom did everything for him, took him off the streets, you know, why he did that, over a couple dollars. Now he got to sit in jail for the rest of his life. Reporter and this whole neighborhood is shaken here on vista street. Funeral arrangements have been made according to the family. The funeral will be held in maryland 1 00 on saturday. In the holmesburg section of philadelphia, keith jones, nbc 10 news. New at 11 00, a new jersey man is in jail tonight accused in two carjackings just hours apart outside the Golden Nugget casino. Police say rahim adams of newark used a gun to steal a pontiac grand am early sunday morning. A few hours earlier before noon, adams carjacked a chevy pickup truck at gunpoint inside the parking garage. Police caught up to adams a few blocks away and took him into custody after a short chase. Officers found a gun and both cars. The interior of one of them was burned. A desperate plea from a family to find a student from ocean county who disappeared in israel. A special Prayer Service was held today in lakewood for aaron sofer. The 23yearold student disappeared while hiking with a friend in the Jerusalem Forest on friday, an area bordered by jewish and arab communities and now the scene of a massive search for him. Sofers family is offering an award of nearly 28,000 to anyone who can find him. I just have one message, please bring back my brother. Sofers disappearance comes about two months after the 16yearold cousin of a lakewood woman was kidnapped and killed with two other israeli teenagers in the west bank. Their murders sparked tensions that helped trigger this summers war between israel and hamas in gaza. Tonight theres a break in the fighting thanks to an openend ceasefire between both sides. The deal, brokered by egypt, is said to resemble a 2012 truce. It calls for an end to hostilities between plalestinia military factions and israel in exchange for an easing of the blockade of gaza. Tonight, a man suspected in a series of robberies targeting the elderly in philadelphia has been charged. But police are still looking for two more suspects. Today, the courtroom was cleared as jurors were shown graphic pictures of the little girls injuries. A doctor testified shes rarely seen abuse this severe. Jurors were visibly shaken but the suspect Christina Regusters did not seem to react. Prosecutors say she is the woman seen on video in muslim fwrks garb taking the child from the school. The forum was led by the citys mayor, officers from the Chester City Police department and other officials. City leaders want to make sure what happened in ferguson doesnt happen here. They spoke about what residents can do if theyre stopped by police or how to file complaints against officers. Some residents left satisfied. Others were split. 50 50. It ended at the u. S. Attorneys office. Members want the feds to investigate how police deal with civilians in minority communities. They also want officers to start carrying frontfacing videocameras in departments across the country. Tonight, allegations of brutality against the philadelphia Police Department. Marcus bowe filed a lawsuit against the city along with several Police Officers in connection to an incident in may of last year. E said he was leaving his 30th Birthday Party on south street when he got into a confrontation with a police officer. That officer said bowe was being disrespectful. Thats when he claims a number of Police Officers began beating him up and his teeth got knocked into his gums. He required a number of dental procedures. Up to this point, i was, you know, you look at cops as, you know, theyre the last resort when it comes to your safety. Theyre going to be there. After this situation, its like who do you turn to . Bowe says hes still in the recovery process. We have called the philadelphia Police Department multiple times to get their response. Were still waiting for a call back. A craigslist ad turned into a stabbing outside a supermarket in berks county. Police say Chaz Rodriguez stabbed someone in the chin over the weekend in muhlenberg township. The two met in the parking lot to talk about a cell phone. He decided not to buy it and rodriguez slashed him with a razor and chased him into the store. Police arrested rodriguez inside. Another honor for the taney dragons. Tomorrow, the city of philadelphia will host a parade for the Team Following their Little League world series appearance. This comes after whats already been a whirlwind week for the dragons, especially star pitcher mone davis. Not only has she graced the cover of Sports Illustrated and appeared on the today show but today she went to chicago where she sat down and danced with a special oneonone interview with steve harvey. This was the first guest i started pitching for. When i saw her in the Little League series, i said, this little girl is fabulous. I want her on the show. Tomorrow we have 90 degree temperatures around and even going into your Labor Day Weekend its going to be a warmer one. Were also tracking hurricane cristobal, this one is far down to our south. Its in the atlantic. It will stay away, but it will also be impacting the shore. Ill show you the track for that in a minute. Labor day weekend, i have your forecast for that. Again, like i mentioned its going to be hot and we have storms for part of it. Right now, through the lehigh valley, 70 degrees. 73 right now in philadelphia. South jersey and delaware, a little bit cooler but still mild. Mid to low 60s here. We are dry, though, and we will stay dry as we two into tomorrow. You notice a little cloud cover off to our west. This is part of a very weak cold front. It will be moving through later in the day tomorrow, but until we get there, its going to be hot. At the same time, we are watching hurricane cristobal. This one far away and will stay away. What it will be doing is impacting our coastline indirectly but will be giving us rip currents. This storm will continue to push away from the Midatlantic States in the northeast, but dangerous rip currents will exist along the jersey shore and delaware beaches. Tomorrow we have a high risk of that. It will continue as we go through thursday. So if youre out there at the shore, be very careful. You really dont want to swim where lifeguards are the not present and you really dont want to try to swim at all with such dangerous rip currents. Heres our future weather map. That would be children, the elderly, those with asthma. So you really dont want to be outside for prolonged periods of time if you have any of those. Now, along the shore as we go into tomorrow, its going to be a pretty good day but the rip currents will still be there. Even thursday. Temperatures around 80 degrees all the way into your friday.
