Through the day and into the night. Philadelphia schools already announced theyre closing early tomorrow. Other School Information is at the bottom of your screen. Good evening. Im george spencer. This just in. We have new expected snow totals, a new time of arrival, and a chance of blizzardlike conditions. Nbc 10 first alert meteorologist Sheena Parveen and our entire news team are on high alert. We start tonight with sheena. We have a first alert out. We have snow moving in right now. But the first alert is really for late tomorrow night into very early tuesday. We have a major snowstorm on our hands. It hasnt quite developed completely just yet. But once it does we could see snow totals anywhere from 6 00 to 20 inches or more. Of course, it depends where you live. Well show you that in a second. New jersey should be the hardest hit with winds increasing blowing snow with this system too. We will see it intensify as it moves offshore. Right now it is still off to the west. We see snow moving into the area currently. And we will have snow around through tomorrow. Snow for part of your morning commute. Right now light snowshowers moving through the area. Tomorrow well see some accumulations. But its not going to be anything like what well see late tomorrow night and early Tuesday Morning. Lets just ahead to Tuesday Morning. Here is the same storm system. What its going to do is move offshore. Once it moves offshore its going to intensify. Blizzard conditions expected north. Heavy snow expected in our area. But again once it intensifies offshore, well see heavy snow along with very windy conditions. Here are some of the snow totals we expect. Again, i mentioned we could see 20 inches or more. This is mostly going to be confined to parts of new jersey. We could see it along trenton, the i95 Corridor North of philadelphia. Blizzard warnings for ocean county. Stretching into Lehigh Valley in extreme south jersey we could see 15 to 20 inches. And just west of that through the Lehigh Valley into northern delaware, anywhere from 6 to 12 inches. South of that were going to see lesser amounts. Well take a closer look at the timing of all this snow depending where you live. Well go through time this starting tonight. Lets check with meteorologist Brittney Shipp. Brittney . Well break it down region by region. As we head into rest of tonight, we expect to see snow moving in. Its already moved in parts of the i95 corridor. As we progress into the Early Morning hours, light to moderate snowfall is going to continue to come down. By 6 00 a. M. If youre traveling between doylestown quakerstown, skc2nallentown, you could be waking up to a few inches of snowfall. You do want to be careful as you head to work tomorrow. Snowfall throughout your monday morning. This is going to continue into your monday evening commute. As we progress to the 9 00 10 00 hour same thing. Once this snow system starts it will lead to on and off snow. The i94 corridor in philadelphia, here is what you can expect. Wove seen light snow into the Early Morning hours again, were still dealing with accumulating snow. Its going to be cold enough for our snowfall to stick to the ground, stick to the roads and to the sidewalks. So you do want to be careful with your monday morning commute. We take a closer look heading into your late Morning Hours, well see more of a wintry mix closer to the south of the i95 corridor. Bottom line, you want to be careful whether youre dealing with snowfall closer to 10 00 a. M. Delaware and parts of the shore. We expect over the next few hours to continue to see light snow moving in. Possibly icy spots overnight as well. By 6 00 a. M. If youre just to the north of Atlantic City you are going to be dealing with snow as you wake up in the morning. Yeah george just within the past few minutes, we have seen a few flurries begin to fall out here in the western suburbs. You see as were driving here in west chester, it is not sticking to roads just yet. But penndot crews tell me theyve been on the roads already. In Chester County the salt trucks get ready to hit the road. Penndot says close to 400 drivers will be out prepping streets overnight while students out near West Chester University scramble to fill empty fridges. Rotisserie chicken. Reporter Brandon Weaver is hoping for a snow day. There is nothing wrong with a day off from school. Reporter and for drivers like brad carlson, the coming rush hour will be tricky. He has to head to work in new jersey, whereby tuesday the worst of it is expected. I have a long commute. So im out that way. Im afraid of getting stuck out there. Reporter penndot says during the peak of this storm, the plows will be working on overdrive. But even with 400 plus drivers, it still might be dangerous and definitely slick. We have to are the accumulating storm where we might get an inch an hour or two inches an hour. Motorists need to be prepared at times theyre going to be driving on snowcovered roads. Now when it comes to mass transit, septa officials tell us they are confident things will be fine for tomorrows evening rush and commute. But they are keeping an eye eye on how things shape up for tuesday. From our Trenton Bureau the citys mayor has issued a winter storm advisory and tells us that city is prepared for what is to come. We have over 300 tons of salt and supply liquid brine, calcium. We have a force that know house to deal with these snowstorms. City officials want to remind residents once 3 inches of snow falls, they need to move their vehicles from snow emergency routes and park those vehicles in the nearest School Parking lots. You can find a full list on nbc10. Com. And new Jersey Transit is planning to operate a regular weekday schedule tomorrow through wednesday. But officials tell us there is the potential for significant shutdowns of rail bus, light rail, and access link service. So with that in mind nj transit will cross on rail, light rail and bus tickets. Also, people planning to fly over the next few days may want to make other plans. Philadelphia International Airport says some flights have already been canceled for tomorrow and on tuesday, United Airlines is cancelling all flights out of philadelphia and airports across the northeast. Supposed to be traveling to boston tomorrow evening. And then i bumped my flight up to tomorrow afternoon. And then finally decided that today was a better day to go. I had no idea whether or not it would get out tomorrow. So today seemed like the best bet. If you need to change a flight Many Airlines have said they will waive their fees for passengers flying into and out of the northeast. Right now a live look at philadelphias 30th street station. Amtrak is warning passengers to be prepared for any service changes. Right now amtraks planning to operate a normal monday schedule. But it is monitoring the storm and may make changes if needed. Sheena parveen will return with a full forecast. And right now these are live pictures of storm force 10 making its way along route 202 in the west chester area. Right now you can see the conditions out there have not gotten too bad, but certainly already damp in that area that is going to be first hit by this coming storm. And right now it is the calm before the storm at the jersey shore. A live look now at cape may. You can expect several inches of snow here. And it will get worse as you head north up the shore. We caught up with the operator of an Ocean City Hotel who was getting ready this afternoon. 6. Going down there today to make sure my staff is ready for the snow. Make sure were lined up for the plows and people that are going to clear the sidewalks to the hotel. Now for other people preparing for this storm meant a walk on the boardwalk or even a trip to the beach in Atlantic City before all of that is really buried under the snow. In anticipation of the storm, which you can see right here on our nbc 10 first alert weather radar, Atlantic County has issued a winter storm warning. Public works crews started salting the roads today. And while county Officials Say they are prepared to send out the plows once the snow begins to pile up. This now is a live look from times square. In new york city officials are warning the public to be ready for an historic storm. Mayor bill de blasio said this blizzard could be like nothing theyve seen since at least the 1800s. New yorkers should not underestimate this storm. Assume conditions will be unsafe. Assume that you do not want to be out in this storm. New york city plans to put 500 salt trucks and 1500 snowplows out on the streets. And sheena this storm is really going to be one that is going to impact much of the northeast. Thats right. A very large portion of the northeast will be impacted by this storm, including our area. So well talk about how big this area is that the storm is going to impact. Right now obviously i circled it in yellow. We have a lot of snow here rain to the south. As we go into tomorrow and tomorrow night we will mostly be seeing snow. We have some snowshowers moving in right now. But the main part of this storm will be here late tomorrow night into very early tuesday. Thats going to be the time frame for the heaviest snow. This is a major snowstorm in the making. So right now its not major. But once it moves offshore and strengthens, it will be. Snow totals locally from 6 to 20 inches. Some areas could see more than 20 inches. Some of the hardest hit areas we expect to be in new jersey and even the shore, and we expect blowing snow because winds will start increasing. Right now here is a closer look at the trenton area parts of Burlington County into philadelphia. We do have some light snowshowers coming down now. And there you see more of it comes in for parts of pennsylvania. That will be here for the morning commute tomorrow. So tomorrow morning we will be seeing periods of snow here is a larger look at the northeast. So this is the storm warned area. It stretches from just about delaware all the way up through maine. The red thats a blizzard warning. Ocean county under a blizzard warning up to new york city and farther north. Major winter storm. Dangerous travel. Again, this is mostly going to be the strongest late tomorrow night into early Tuesday Morning. Heavy snow and blowing snow with winds increasing during that time frame. The blizzard warning just in ocean county right off to our north. So our winds will be increasing. Keep in mind there is a chance that we could see this blizzard warning extended. But as of right now we will be seeing heavy snow and very high wind as we go through that time frame late tomorrow early tuesday here is a look at future weather. Here is what its showing. Through the overnight hours, well continue to see snowshowers moving in on the lighter side but still a little bit of an accumulation. Tomorrow morning heading to work 8 00, well see snowshowers around through a large portion of the area. Then we go through tomorrow afternoon. Here is monday 9 00 p. M. Notice how you see the darker shades of purple. This is heavy snow. By this time the storm will be offshore. It will be getting stronger. And that will be swinging in some heavy snow. Notice how you mostly see this in parts of new jersey. Highways the area we expect to be hardest hit. Now we go overnight into early tuesday. This is 6 00 Tuesday Morning. A lot of this snow will be falling when a lot of you are actually sleeping through the overnight hours. We will be here updating you on twitter, on facebook on nbc10. Com. You do want to stay tuned. We have to monitor this basically every hour. We know the types of storms can change a little bit. So far the models are in agreement that this definitely looks like it will be happening. Heaviest snow late monday again Tuesday Morning. Thats the time frame for the heaviest snow through the area. We will see snowshowers tomorrow. But dont let tomorrows snow fool you. It will get heavier as we go into Tuesday Morning. Lets head to meteorologist Brittney Shipp. Shell take a closer look at the neighborhood for the timing and the important snow totals. Lets start with the delaware area, also parts of the shore. This is where were going to start to see the hardest hit areas. As we go into the overnight hours tonight, heading into your monday at 6 00 a. M. , this will be one of the last areas to see all snowfall. Its going to start off slowly, especially right along the shore. Dont let that fool you as we head to monday night and tuesday. Youre going to notice the snow totals agenda up. Your morning commute, definitely going to see icy and snowy road conditions. By 7 00 p. M. As youre heading home, same thing. This is going to be a listening day of commuting as you head into monday. Monday night into tuesday, youll notice like sheena was mentioning, the darker blues around 3 00 a. M. Thats the heaviest snowfall that is going to be coming down in Atlantic City ocean city. And more of a moderate snowfall pushing down into parts of cape may. This will not lift up 2348 we head into your late Morning Hours on tuesday built. The time the storm pulls away from us take a look at some of the storm totals. 15 to 20 inches expected for Atlantic County and the southern parts of Burlington County. 10 to 15 inches for millville, 6 to 8 in dover. If youre closer to sussex county, 3 to 6 inches. So it really depends on where you live. If youre closer to our western county, youre not going see as much snowfall. If youre closer to the coast where that storm is intensifying, thats when were going to see our highest snowfall amounts. We take a close look at the ken i95 corridor by 7 00 a. M. Dealing with wet and slick roads, snowy roads along the i95 corridor at 7 00 a. M. This is going to continue on and off throughout your monday. Alaska at first snow accumulations are light, 1 to 3 inches tomorrow as youre heading home. But overnight hours monday pushing into tuesday, thats when the storm is really going to rev up. You can see the moderate to heavy rainfall coming down hour after hour into your Early Morning hours on tuesday. So by 6 00 p. M. Were still dealing with the heavy rainfall coming down. Snow totals for northern Burlington County, 15 to 20 inches expected. We could see amounts even higher than that. If youre closer to philadelphia proper Delaware County 10 to 15 inches expected. And then closer to wilmington New Castle County 6 to 10 inches. So again, the same thing is true. The further out west you go, our snowfall totals go down.
