Now, my colleague meteorologist Brittney Shipp is live at suburban square in ardmore with the technology of storm force 10 and a look at temperatures across the region. Reporter thats right. Lets show you stormforce 10. You already mentioned the rain moving in. Stormforce 10 is equipped with weather instruments. Right now the temperature at 44 degrees where we are here in ardmore, and as we head into the rest of tonight, our temperatures are going to continue to drop. The cold blast already moving into our region. And throughout most of today, we stayed in the 40s. Were still in the 40s right now, and if we take a look at some of our current temperatures, it does show that our conditions are going to be staying in the 40s. Especially for this area. So 46 degrees for philadelphia. 39 degrees in kenneth square. 44 in wilmington. 44 in chester springs. 43 in horsham. Mid 40s in wrightstown. Washington township at 44 degrees. Taking a look at our suburbs to the north and west. 42 in allentown. 37 in mt. Pocono. 39 degrees in oxford. Well continue to monitor these chilly temperatures from ardmore with stormforce 10. A light drizzle. The overnight hours, maybe an inch in Higher Elevations. Ed to today is a big reminder to aesh everybody here that winter is coming. After a winter like last in the Lehigh Valley, one of the coldest and snowiest in recent years, even this weeks minor cold front brings back some awful memories. Nothing we can do about it. Its mother nature. Reporter people here already prepping for another four months of deep freeze, grabbing a new winter jacket just in case. I get up at 5 00 in the morning, so its always cold when i get up. So i always throw on a big coat. Reporter but if you got through last year, youre pretty battled hardened at this point. This weeks threat of flurries and freezing temps isnt too concerning that is, unless, of course, youre a camel at the Lehigh Valley zoo where this week most exotic animals are being sent inside. Even the penguins. The zoos biggest attraction, dont much like the freezing weather. Theyre from south africa. If its below 30 degrees, they do not come outside. Even though theyre penguins . Police officers under fire and they shoot back at a suspect kills him. Gunfire started just after 7 00 this morning along Wilson Street in trenton. Reporter well, renee and jim, we know the two Police Officer s were in fact wearing bulletproof vests but came under attack almost as soon as they arrived on the scene this morning, this for a man standing in the middle of the street with a gun. Why he was there and didnt surrender to those Police Officers, were still waiting for those answers right now. The suspect right about there. Suspect opened fire on their vehicle. Reporter witnesses tell us the gunshots lasted close to a minute. Clearly a fire fight and it woke them up from a sound sleep this morning near wilson and reservoir in west trenton. Maureen turner dialed 911. He said, maam, we already have police on scene. Im trying to figure out how there are police on scene and am hearing the shots so i realized it was an officerinvolved shooting. Reporter skyforce 10, see two dozen shell casing markers. The crime scene unit spent the day gathering evidence and said the officers suffered only minor injuries from flying glass during the barrage of bullets that struck their windshield. Just from the scene, looks like they were fired upon before they got out of the car. Reporter police returned fire. They heard as many as 20 shots, killing the suspect. Neighbors want to know what led to the shooting. Before the shots were fired, there was a little girl on Wilson Street and she was outside crying and banging on one of the doors. Reporter police still piecing together the facts of the case say their officers are lucky to be alive. Any time youre involved in a shooting, its a stressful incident. You think about your family and your life could have been ended today. Reporter and what we still dont know is who the officers are. And how theyre doing this afternoon. But they were hospitalized. Or the suspects identity. Were told police are notifying his family. We were also told hours ago that police would hold a press conference here and just as soon as that happens, we will get you some more answers. Live in trenton, cydney long, nbc 10 news. In the last hour, a road in Delaware County reopened after a pico crew hit an underground gas main bringing traffic to a stand still here. Skyforce 10 over route 252 in Upper Providence township. The accident happened around 11 00 this morning. The road was shut down between palmers mill road and rose tree road as crews try to repair that gas line. Again, that section of 252 has since reopened. And 20 minutes of nonstop news continues with the ongoing search now to find the killers who attacked two women in their own home more than 12 hours ago. A 911 call came in just before 3 00. A 57yearold woman says three men forced their way into the home on 53rd street. Attacked her and her 62yearold roommate. And that roommate was found dead in a first floor bedroom. Investigators say she was naked with bruises on her body. Neighbors are in disbelief. Whoever did it is not right. You talk an angel, she was an angel. She didnt do nothing to nobody. Doesnt make no sense how she died. That was not right. The woman who survived was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Shes being heavily guarded now by police because she is the only witness. Customer at a mcdonalds who stabbed an employee because it was closing time. Police say the man seen at this Cash Register became upset because the grays ferry restaurant was closing and he was asked to leave. The suspect followed one of the employees outside and then continued to argue. When the employee tried to walk away, the suspect stabbed him in the back and then chased him through the parking lot. Nbc 10 was at the scene on grays ferry avenue last monday. No other employees were hurt in this confrontation. The victim was treated at the hospital of the university of pennsylvania and is expected to recover. The man accused of abducting a woman off the street in philadelphia has now been indicted on federal charges. The u. S. Department of justice announced the indictment this afternoon. Barnes appeared in a philadelphia courtroom for the first time yesterday. And was given a public defender. Delvin barnes will appear again tomorrow for a bail hearing. Investigators say barnes is the man in this Surveillance Video kidnapping carlesha freelandgaither off a street. After an intense manhunt, she was rescued three days later. Today the Philadelphia City council honored all the people who worked together to bring her home. We commend all involved for their great work and extend to them the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body. Congratulations. The council presented a citation to the Philadelphia Police department, fbi and atf for the rescue of carlesha freelandgaither and recognized the public for providing police are critical information that includes Dwayne Fletcher who called 911 after the abduction and gave details about the kidnappers car. Carleshas father was at todays ceremony and thanked fletcher for his actions. I just wanted to thank the media, i want to thank the police department, and also i want to thank the hero of my daughter, the one that told everything. [ applause ] freeland says his daughter is also the hero. He believes her kindness also kept Delvin Barnes from harming her. Happenening right now, the sniper accused of killing a Pennsylvania State trooper and leading police on the manhunt for weeks is in court. Eric frein is appearing via video in commonwealth court. Our affiliate in northeastern pennsylvania says the hearing is over. An amendment to the criminal complaint against frein. Facing several charges including murder for the death of corporal bryon dickson. We have new information on the accident that injured kathleen kane. Doctors say shes still not ready to return to work. In a statement today, kanes office said since the accident the pain in her neck and back has intensified. Attorney general kane will continue to work from home. She communicates with her staff and kept apprise of all activities. The accident happened when kanes official vehicle crashed into a parked car. The driver took his eye off the road to pick up an iphone that fell on the floor. She was not wearing a seat belt and her head hit the car window. Kane suffered a concussion, neck and back injuries. She continues to undergo testing and physical therapy. She could tentatively return to work on november 24th. The company that owns the trump taj mahal is threatening the union with a closing. Trump resort says it will close the taj on december 12th if unite here local 54 doesnt drop its appeal of a Court Ordered savings package. Appealing a court order that terminated its contract canceling Health Insurance and pension coverage. Trump kpentertainment ceo says e appeal must be withdrawn by the end of this month to avoid a december 12th shutdown and loss of 3,000 jobs. Atlantic citys casino revenue fell by 4. 4 for the month of october compared to a year ago. The casinos took in 207 million last month. Last october they brought in 216 million. If you exclude the four casinos that recently shout down, the surviving casinos actually increased their revenue by nearly 20 . Authorities are looking for the cause of a fire that forced a dozen people from their home. This all started overnight in a row home along florence avenue. It spread to the next two homes. Officials say there were downed wires on fire in the alley behind the fire scene which made it difficult to bring the flames under control. No injuries were reported here. Some of the dozen displaced residents are being helped by the red cross. Skyforce 10 over a fire this morning in camden. It started in an apartment at broadway and mt. Vernon street. Fire crews were able to get it under control. No one was hurt. The cause is under investigation. From our Delaware Bureau now, wilmington firefighters spending the day making the public safer. They went door to door here in the citys east side neighborhood to make sure families have working smoke and Carbon Monoxide detecters. If they didnt, firefighters installed them. The National Fire Protection Association says three out of every five fire deaths happen in homes that dont have working smoke detecters. Happening now, new safety inspectors sworn into office. Theyre part of philadelphias department of licenses and inspections which oversees a broad range of safety issues spanning the city. Nbc 10s Deanna Durante live at city hall where those inspectors were just sworn in by the mayor. Deanna, tell us what roles these inspectors will be playing . Reporter well, theyre going to be a bigger show of force for the citys licensing and inspection department. 37 new inspectors added to the force that was already 167 inspectors in the ranks going out and looking at building projects. All of this part of changes that have come out of the fatal Market Street Building Collapse that happened last summer. Youll recall that lni went to city council in the fall and asked for more money. Money to fund getting more inspector, 2 Million City Council has given an extra 2 million to the department of licensing and inspection to hire these 37 new inspectors. Joining me now live is the commissioner of lni, Carlton Williams and now, that collapse, that collapse scene, that was licensed. There were inspectors that had gone on the scene. How will these 37 new employees prevent Something Like that from happening again . Well, weve strengthened our policies in reference to how do you get a demolition permit . Used to be an overhead account permit, now its a 20 day plan review. New site safety plans and inspection schedules are put in place. These inspectors will help us be able to expedite those inspections to ensure were on sites more proactively and responsibly. Reporter the 37 new inspectors were sworn in just a little while ago in the mayors Reception Room in city hall. They should be out on the streets, the public the mayor says should see them right away. 37 more people. Democrat Brandon Boyle from pennsylvanias 13th district is among the 50plus new members who went back to class today if you will at the congressional visitors center. Hell represent philadelphia and montgomery counties once hes sworn in. He says hes humbled by the responsibility he will have to his constituents. Last night when i was walking through the halls of congress in, the patriotic american in me kicked in and was more just amazed at what an honor that this is that i have. Boyle is taking over congresswoman allison schwartzs seat. She lost her bid for pennsylvania governor in the democratic primary back in may. We have new video this afternoon from the robotic lander thats now sitting on the surface of a comet. This is a photo sent back from the spacecraft. You can see one of the landers three legs in the lower lefthand corner. The European Space agency made history yesterday by landing a spacecraft on a comet for the first time. It appears to be ing di the sh of a cliff, scientists say, which could cause a problem for its solar panels. Now your nbc 10 first alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz. Well, the cold air is certainly coming in and it feels a little bit more like december out there. We also have rain that has moved in to parts of the area and its increasing pretty quickly across the region. Some snow to the north and west, as we go into the evening hours, and a long cold spell with this particular cold air mass. Its going to be even colder next week. Its 46 degrees now. The wind is not that strong. So the windchill was 42, but its 17 degrees colder than it was at this time yesterday. And its already down to 38 in reading, 39 in pottstown. So were getting closer to snowlike temperatures and its only in the mid to upper 40s in southern areas. Now, we continue to see these temperatures drop 20 degrees colder than at this time yesterday in lancaster and pottstown and in dover. Pretty uniform. Now look at this area of rain. Its a solid area. Extending from philadelphia well past berks county. And just to give you an idea, were looking west of lancaster now, but see these little areas of blue . That is rain changing to snow and this happens first at the Higher Elevations, so whatever county youre in, north and west, berks county, chester, monday co montgomery, if youre at a higher elevation, youll change over to snow first. You can see the intensity of the rain increasing some. And not quite there in the poconos yet, but its pretty close. Especially if the precipitation gets heavier, you can see some of that snow make its way down to the ground. Now, to the north and west, we do expect the rain across the area increasing, getting heavier, and starting to turn over to snow. This particular computer model i think is a little too conservative with the snowfall. So lets say this area of lighter green would be the snow coming into the reading area, certainly by 8 00. But its not going to last all night. Its not going to be especially heavy. Its not going to accumulate on roads. Here we are 11 00. Theres the rain down south and east. And steady snow up in the poconos. Now, the poconos could see some snow accumulation, inch or so. Heres around the Lehigh Valley. Around midnight, a little after, then its gone. So this is a brief thing. This is not a big storm. Or anything like that. And the wider view, you can see the area of
