Weekend, carla was among the first to hit the sand on ship bottoms newly widened beach. Out here early to beat the crowd. Our beach is very big. I think we have a lot of space this year. Reporter after a rainy thursday sunshine and a long line of slowmoving traffic greeted those making their way to Long Beach Island this morning. At the sand box cafe the wait for a table was at least 45 minutes. We think today is the busiest day weve seen so far this summer. Going great. We were gearing up for it with the rain yesterday. We prayed for sunshine and someone heard our prayers. Reporter in Sea Isle City waves of people have been hitting the surf. The sand packed too. First time right . Reporter although this 11 week old spent most of his day under cover. Stay under that tent. He will be 100 uv protected. Shirt, hat, all of it. They cant wear sunscreen until six months. Meantime security is tightening across the world this Holiday Weekend because of terrorism concerns. The government says there is no specific threat but they want everyone to be vigilant and prepared. Nbc 10s jesse gary is live on the ben franklin parkway where philadelphia officials revealed their security plans as hundreds of thousands converge on the city this weekend. What did they say . Reporter well they would not give out specifics but they do say the city wants people to come down to welcome america and one of the venues you might hit, the road to rio. This is something that is new that they are just putting the finishing touches on right now. In this corner they will have a green screen where you can look like you are standing next to the olympic torch. In this corner they will have a ring, the olympic rings. Then in this corner, this is the cool thing. Put on this headset here and this will give you a 360 degree experience of being at one of the events whether its diving or Beach Volleyball or whatever it is. So they expect thousands, maybe tens of thousands of people to make their way through this exhibit over the next few days. This as people come down here under a Terror Threat warning. New information about an fbi raid at city hall in allentown. It speculates the fbi is looking into the citys contracting process. Everything is quiet today. City hall is closed for the holiday. Agents showed up at city hall yesterday and questioned the mayor. Agents seized documents pertaining to bidding and contracts for grand jury investigation. So far no city officials or employees have been subpoenaed to testify or told they are a target of the probe. The city statement says leaders have acted properly at all times. We knocked on the mayors door to ask him directly. No one answered. New information this afternoon in the shooting of a Camden Police officer. Detectives identified the suspect who shot the officer as victor bennett. Theres a 1500 reward for information that leads to his arrest. Police say bennett shot at officer prince reeds car. The officer was hit in the arm with a bullet fragment. He searched for the suspect before heading to the hospital. New information in the case of an elderly woman murdered in East Mount Airy and the search for her killers. The three People Police questioned last night were released. Reporter we now know one woman and two men were not detained overnight by homicide detectives but exactly what information they gave up or their relationship to the victim, if any, is not clear. It comes as Police Detectives are analyzing a key piece of evidence, a laptop computer that belonged to the victim but seized inside a home in West Oak Lane on bouvier street making people who live there concerned about any potential connection. At close glance you can see where detectives were able to lift fingerprints that may point to the 85yearolds killer or killers. A source confirmed the vehicle stolen at some point in the moments or hours after her throat was slashed, changed hands at least once in the days after her death. It belongs to bruener and brought three people into questioning by police late last night. If thats the case and they did catch somebody with that laptop i hope they get the person that did it because thats really insane that you would take an elderly womans life over whatever reason. Reporter he was friendly with the victim having been a neighbor for many years. He wants whoever killed her caught. Her husband died a few years ago and then she lived with some other gentleman and i hear he was in the hospital. At the time. Reporter he went on to tell me he does not have one and is not aware of any neighbors that have outdoor surveillance cameras. We also asked police and homicide detectives if they plan to release any of the Surveillance Video of the suspects using this victims atm card. We did not hear back from them today. They have been working this case day in and day out all week but remained very quiet today. Im cydney long, nbc 10 news. Homicide investigators are looking into a quadruple shooting that left two people dead in nicetown around 2 00 this morning. A masked gunman walked up to a group of people attempting to rob them but one of the people in the group had an Assault Rifle and a gun battle broke out. Two men are dead including the robbery suspect. Two others are in the hospital. Lot of people complained about the slow response of Atlantic City electric to last weeks power outages. Now the new jersey board of Public Utilities is taking a look. Storms put thousands in the dark for almost a week. Three state lawmakers wrote a letter to the utilities board complaining about ac electrics response. They say the utility refused to coordinate its efforts with local towns. Ac electric says it will cooperate with the review and look for ways to be more efficient. The Baltimore City Police Department has launched an internal investigation after a picture went viral. It shows a message on the inside of a police van saying enjoy your ride because we sure will. Someone snapped a picture of this on tuesday. The Police Department says this is concerning and unacceptable and the department is taking it very seriously. The photos come as six officers are charged in connection with the death of freddie gray. Gray was arrested in april and suffered from injuries while in police custody. His death a week later sparked protests and riots in baltimore. New York State Police are trying to unravel exactly what happened while two escaped murderers were on the run. They are trying to figure out who owned a backpack that david sweat was carrying when he was shot near the canadian border. He had maps tools and other items in that backpack when he was caught sunday. Troopers believe it was stolen from a camp. Sweats accomplice david matt was shot and killed two days before sweat was captured. His body has been disposed of in accordance with the wishes of his son. There was no funeral but its unclear if he was buried or cremated. The convicted mudder ermurderers were on the run for nearly three weeks. A dozen people have been suspended from their positions at the prison including the top boss and his deputy. Tennessee residents are back in their homes after the threat from a Train Derailment and fire ended. Thousands of people were forced to evacuate yesterday when a train carrying toxic chemicals went off the rails and burst into flames. The fire is now out. 87 people were treated at a local hospital. Most were experiencing respiratory issues skin irritation and nausea. All are expected to be okay. There were no air monitoring that indicates that theres any issues. The Freight Train was heading from cincinnati to southern georgia when it derailed. The cause is not yet known. The tables have turned in North Carolina today. Its about 6 1 2 feet long. The fisherman did release it back into the ocean. So far this year there have been 25 unprovoked shark attacks in the u. S. 11 of them in florida, seven in North Carolina. Four in south carolina. A twist in the Corruption Case against new jersey senator bob menendez. Prosecutors are trying to keep some evidence out of the hands of the senators attorneys. They say there are National Security concerns. Prosecutors asked a judge to decide. Menendez is accused of conspiracy and bribery for allegedly accepting gifts from a florida eye doctor in exchange for political favors. He has pleaded not guilty. Hispanic leaders are calling on the Republican Party to condemn donald trump. Trump is refusing to apologize for calling mexican immigrants rapists and drug dealers. Many republican candidates have avoided the issue all together. The political and practical trump related fallout has intensified in recent days. A number of Big Companies have stopped doing business with trump, including Nbc Universal. Trump of course one of 14 declared gop president ial candidates. Two more are expected to join the race this month. There are five candidates on the democratic side vying for their partys nomination. Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter is heading to mexico on a mission to build economic ties. He will visit puebla as part of the trip starting monday. The goal is economic collaboration. It is mexicos fourth largest city. The mayor wants to foster economic development, culture and educational and professional exchanges. Fourth of july a proud weekend for all americans. This weekend is an especially proud weekend for the Lgbt Community as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first equality protest. Theres a big exhibit at the National Constitution center where people are able to step back in time to see what it was like 50 years ago. A lot of people who were at that protest are back in philly this weekend to mark the celebration of the movement. Theres still work to be done but i think no American Group in the last 50 years has ever made such astonishing progress progress that we couldnt even conceive of when i began. The exhibit at the National Constitution center will be open until january. A new report finds there is no evidence irs employees were told to destroy or hide information in an email scandal. Thousands of emails were lost when backup tapes were erased. That happened to a former irs official who was under investigation for her treatment of conservative groups like the tea party. This report finds theres no evidence the irs tried to hide evidence from investigators. Instead the erased tapes seemed to be a mistake, not a coverup. The markets werent open today to observe the july fourth holiday but closed lower yesterday ahead of greeces sunday referendum. That vote this weekend is about whether to accept creditor demands in return for bailout funds. Tension it isess are high in greece.
