Were looking at mostly sunny skies with additional clouds in the afternoon but down the shore, this may be the place to be because youve got lots of sunshine through the day. 73 by noon. Officers were called to a home on south 58th on cobb street. They say the 58yearold man had been stabbed in the chest. He understood went surgery early this morning. The girlfriend is now in custody. Today some catholics in our area will be attending the final mass as 16 parishes will either merge or close floing last months announcement by the archdiocese. Its one of five parishes that are appealing the decision to the archdiocese. Beginning july 1st this place will become a site for special events. Another parish thats coming to an end notre dae er day dame. They say their church will still be used for masses until the end of the summer. Some of the reasons given by the archdiocese for the parish mergers is proximity to other parishes. Some they say are currently too close together and some parishioners tell me they have unanswered questions. Heres the list of parishes that have filed appeals. Our lady of mount carmel in bridgeport. Notre dame delourdes and st. Elizabeth ann seton. The appeals are with the archbishop. He will likely render a decision next month. Its important to know since this process has begun this is not the first round, theyve been doing this since 2010 but no appeal to the archbishop has ever been overturned. After that happens then they can file an appeal with the vatican, but even that has not proved to be very successful in terms of the churches in the philadelphia region some of parishioners are telling me theyre hopeful but not confident the appeals will be returned. A large group was gather at the ritas yesterday afternoon when the gate suddenly fell. Dozens of people jumped into action and tried to lift the steel gate off the girl, but it was too late. Having an emergency sachbings is more the exception than the rule these days. Americans between 30 and 49 are coming up short when it comes to having money in the bank. Cnbcs Sharon Epperson explains why. Reporter when it comes to saving for a rainy day, Everybody Knows what they should do. Try to save more, try to manage my money a little bit better. You kind of live check by check. You never know. Every time you get paid, you put something aside. Reporter there arent too many people doing it. Do you have moneyies put aside for emergencies . I do have money yeah, no. Reporter more than a quarter of americans have no Emergency Savings. Even as the stock market reaches new heights and parts of the economy are slowly starting to improve, americans have made very little progress in their savings according to a new survey by bankrate. Com. Half of meshes have less than three months of savings saved. Fewer than one out of four have six months saved for expenses. The ideal amount. This lack of Emergency Savings and lack of sufficient Emergency Savings is pervasive. Even the top earning households, fewer of them have it. Reporter another study by the corporation of Enterprise Development found that a quarter of middleclass households, earning between 56,000 and 99,000 are considered liquidasset poor meaning they have less than three months of savings to live at the poverty savings. Thats less than 6,000. People are stunned when they see its not just an issue for people purveyed as poor. People are employed which to me also refutes the stereotypes of people who are really living on the financial edge. Many working americans say they dont have that extra money to sock away. Their paychecks have stayed about the same, even as there have been modest increases in expenses and food. That leaves little wiggle room in the budget and not having a budget, plan that includes how to save and spend is another obstacle that prevents households from stashing money away. The biggest barrier of saving is not being in habit. They try to do their savings this way, they wait until tend of the month to save whats left over. Guess what . Most of the time theres nothing left over so the sabings doesnt happen. Reporter financial analysts agree a simple step can help. Just remember to pay yourself first. In other news this morning pennsylvanias Civil Engineers released their report card for the states bridges, roads, and other infrastructure this past week and the results are not good. They gave grades for a total of 16 categories. Here are just a few. Pennsylvania bridges received a d plus, mass transit got a d and p. A. s Drinking Water also got a d. The American Society of Civil Engineers conducted the study. Its report spans the months from september 2013 until this past march. To pay for fixes the society suggests more funding bills, increasing the gasoline tax, and restructured the federal Highway Trust Fund. Engineers say these problems will only get worse if something is not done. The purpose of the whole report card is to draw attention to the fact that we do need some additional funding. There is still some work to be done. Adding to the problem, the federal Highway Trust Fund could run out of money unless coming acts. Thats where they get 45 of their infrastructure funding.
