First alert weather day, thats for the possibility of severe storms damaging wind and hail and heavy rain could be embedded in some of these severe thunderstorms. As we go through the rest of your late morning and early afternoon, this is how it progresses. By 1 00, 2 00 the first thing you notice is our temperatures are going to warm up. Were going to see warmer air coming up from the south. Close to 70 degrees by 3 00 p. M. Thats when some of the light rain will start to move through. And then as we head into the rest of the evening hours, closer to 4 00 5 00 it looks like our best chance to see some severe storms is going to be closer to cape may in the central and southern parts of delaware. By 6 00 p. M. Still dealing with the possibility of a few heavy downpours and isolated thunderstorms. So you want to be very careful as you are heading home from work. After 8 00 p. M. We should be pretty much done with all of the thunderstorm activity. Our severe outlook shows our entire area could see a chance of thunderstorms but the best areas to see a slight risk of severe thunderstorms is mainly situated to the south of southern delaware. What that means with severe thunderstorms is we could see wind gusts of up to 60 Miles Per Hour. The possibility of hail and heavy downpours. Right now, temperatures in the 40s, 44 degree in philadelphia. 42 in pottstown. 44 in allentown. 41 in mount pocono. The next couple of hours, we are going to drastically see our temperatures warming up. By 1 00 p. M. We could be close to 60 degrees, wind speeds out of the south, southwest at 12 Miles Per Hour. Well see a break from the rain for philadelphia around 4 00. 68. As we head to the evening and afternoon hours, by 7 00 p. M. Were going to see a better chance of a threat of thunderstorms for philadelphia and especially points to the central and southern areas of delaware and closer to cape may and Atlantic City. 69 degrees will be our high today in philadelphia. So much warmer than what we saw yesterday. Ill be tracking the storms to let you know how long the threat will last and what to expect as we head into the weekend. Well see you then brittney. Back to the deadly storms and tornado in illinois as most people were trying to get away storm chases were racing towards the tornado to get video. Take a look. There goes cars. I saw headlights go flying. You can hear the stress in their voices as they watch the tornado passing over a road. They continue to roll as the winds knocked over a tractor trailer. You see it there. The storm is blamed for one death in the town of fairdale. Nbcs mike bettis shows us what it looks like there this morning. Reporter the day after showing a lot of light on the tornado that swept through Northern Illinois in the town of fairdale, a town of roughly 200 people. And every single building in town just seven square blocks was damaged. One of the more interesting things we found was this cinder block wall pushed to the west here it has been torn right off the Mortar Foundation here. This building, by the way, behind us an apartment up above and more of the Storage Units down below. Most of the roof structure has been taken off. You can see right down into it. Now, the city is still cordndoned off. Theyre still doing search and rescue, ongoing at this time. We know 11 people have been injured and treated for their injuries. One fatality here in fairdale one 65yearold woman who perished in her home. We know the National Weather service will be on hand to determine the strength of this tornado, could have been multiple tornadoes as well. Well have a few crews out here today. Theyll assess the paths length, the width and wind speed based on damage. But extensive damage with this. This is just the outskirts of town homes have been wiped off their foundation into town. We see some of the aerial pictures and truly a heart breaking scene in this rural tight knit community of just 200 people. Now, last night there was a power play a power play went down late last night and we were here to cover it. Some Council Members, they voted to firefighter manager. She says shes refusing to leave. Look behind me that door is where she locked herself in last night, refusing to come out and spent the entire night. Hours ago, i talked to her this morning. Youre saying that that was illegal, that you are still the borough manager. Absolutely i am. Reporter paula brown let us into borough hall this morning while she organized documents she says shell turn over to the District Attorney for safekeeping. I have to protect the records here. I have to protect the finances. Why dont you shut up and reporter things got heated last night as four Council Members voted to fire brown. No, no, no reporter that vote came after Council President paul muser says he ajournddjourned the meeting. Im Council President because i we made a motion to adjourn and what they did was illegal. Reporter the person making the motions, brown and fred lasher who says hes the new Council President. We got rid of a basically a faction on council that was causing a lot of trouble. Did you get me a straw . Reporter brown says she plans to keep working. I am boxing up files for the District Attorney right now. And then im going to pay some bills because the council did vote to pass the bills last night. Reporter it is still not clear if the vote to fire brown was legal or not. Brown says shell stay inside this borough hall doing business out of the window if she has to until the solicitor or the District Attorney tells her she has to leave. Fire officials arent saying much about a Carbon Monoxide leak inside a philadelphia home that sent one person to the hospital. Philadelphia gas works was on the scene assessing the air quality near the home along Waterloo Street in north philadelphia. But fire officials tell nbc 10 it is not a pgw issue. Neighbors think a basement generator is to blame. One neighbor told us she saw the homeowner react. He was outside, maybe figuring out where everything was before he went into the house. No other homes in the area are affected. Well update with you information once it is available. And this morning, the fire marshal is looking for the cause of a fire that raced through a house in cheltenham. The fire caused heavy damage to this house on wister drive. They believe it may have started in the kitchen. Fire crews had to break into windows to put the flames out. A woman inside the home heard the smoke alarm and made it out safely. No one else was hurt. Five people escaped the house fire in philadelphias frankfurt section around 1 30 this morning on bridge street. Crews say the fire started in the kitchen and then spread to the second floor of the home. One firefighter is recovering from minor injuries and is expected to be okay. However, no word on what started that fire. New from overnight, no reports of anyone hurt from a Dumpster Fire at this high rise apartment building. Nbc 10 was at 39th and walnut in University City. Fire Officials Say flames from the first floor dumpster sent smoke to the upper floors through a trash chute. Investigators will be looking for the cause of that fire. Robbed at gunpoint. Police are looking for the two men they say robbed a man overnight while he was leaving a parking garage. This all happened near fifth and pine streets in center city. The man was not injured but the suspect got away with his iphone and his wallet. A woman managed to walk away unharmed from this crash in fair monte park along kelly drive overnight. The woman lost control and flipped that her vehicle over. And in Burlington County two people went to the hospital after a hazmat situation at an apartment complex. This happened last night at the Edgewater Manor apartments in edgewater park. Investigators say the victims were exposed to some type of chemical. Officials evacuated eight apartments total. This morning we are working to find out the conditions of those victims. Philadelphia police are looking for the man they say robbed a University City bank in a top hat. Investigators say the man went to td bank on 37th and walnut just after 7 00 and handed a teller a note demanding money. We were there last night while cruise searched for crews on the scene. The suspect was able to get away with more than 400. And now to the race for philadelphia mayor. The six democrats laid out their visions for the citys future during a Candidate Forum last night. The Community College of philadelphia in spring garden. The forum focused on education, Job Development and affordable housing. The candidates will meet at two more forums today. One under way right now at the Cast Iron Building on arch street. Started about 40 minutes ago. The other is at 7 30 tonight at Fox Chase Elementary School on ron street. And voters will go to the polls on tuesday, may 19th, for the primaries in philadelphia and then on tuesday, november 3rd, voters will choose the next mayor of philadelphia in a general election. To that Deadly Police shooting in South Carolina. New dash cam video shows the start of the encounter between a white Police Officer and the africanamerican driver hes accused of murdering. Look at this video. This is from the patrol car of former North Charleston Police Officer michael slager. Slager, who grew up in Burlington County pulled over scott for a faulty taillight. In the video you hear slager ask scott for license and registration as they typically do. Scott said he didnt have the paperwork because he was in the process of buying the car. Slager walked back to his car to check the license. Scott suddenly bolted from the car. And thats when slager ran after him. Moments later, the cell phone video picks up from there, catching slager firing eight shots that killed scott. Slagers mother expressed sorrow for the victims family. As one mother to another mother i can understand this. So i just i just want them to know im sorry that this happened. And that that this has made a change in everybodys life. Michael slager said he opened fire because scott had taken his taser and he had feared for his life. Though the video does not show scott taking that taser. North Charleston Police fired him after the cell phone video surfaced. And police in maryland say a man kidnapped his wife and shot and killed a guard at the u. S. Census bureau building. Police say the man drove to the headquarters in maryland. And the guard started arguing with someone in the car, so the guard approached. And investigators say the man opened fire shooting the guard and then took off. Sparking a police chase that led to a shootout. Police hit the man several times. Not clear how bad hes hurt. Three Police Officers are also hurt. Theyre all expected to be okay. And the mans wife was not hurt. Police in maryland are searching for a gunman who shot an officer there. The shooting happened early this morning near a Convenience Store in arnold. Police say the officer was responding to reports of a suspicious person. Both the officer and the suspect ran away from the store and then witnesses say they heard gunshots. The officer is listed in Critical Condition. To decision 2016 now. Former secretary of state and first lady Hillary Clinton is expected to announce her president ial campaign on sunday. Sources say clinton will first announce her president ial bid with an online video. And then shell make stops in voting states key voting stops like iowa and new hampshire. Clinton will be first democrat to announce her campaign. Republican candidate rand paul announced his candidacy earlier this week. And this morning, there is word that president obama spoke with cuban president raul castro ahead of an expected encounter at a summit in panama. The two leaders spoke by phone last night, but the white house has declined to comment on what they discussed. It is only the second known conversation between the leaders of the u. S. And cuba in more than 50 years. Mr. Obama and castro both arrived in panama city yesterday with the summit of the americas. They arent expected to formally meet, but could interact on the sidelines of the summit. Now, your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist Brittney Shipp. Good morning. As we head into the rest of today, want to be careful, it is a first alert day for the possibility of severe storms as we head into your afternoon and into your evening. That could affect your evening commute. You want to take it easy out there on the roads. Already seeing light rain and slick roads out there and also tracking a big warmup as we head into the afternoon. Temperatures yesterday in the 40s. Now as we head into the rest of day, most locations push into the 70s. 30 degree warmup in one day. Here are the details on your first alert. Were expecting afternoon and evening thunderstorms, that could lead to strong gusty winds. And the possibility of hail. Closer look outside now, you can see it is a dreary friday as we end this workweek for philadelphia. 44 degrees mostly cloudy skies, not dealing with rainfall now at the philadelphia airport. But windchill at 42 degrees, air is calm. Wind speeds picking up as well as we head into the afternoon. Theyll stay out of the southwest. That will be warmer air moving in for us warming up our temperatures. Closer look here at our radar shot shows the line of thunderstorms that is going to continue to move closer to us as we head into the rest of your late morning and afternoon hours. So it is still outside of harrisburg at this time. If we show you a closer look at future weather, it shows how close the moisture is going to come and when it will get here. Closer to 3 00 p. M. , when were going to start to deal with light to moderate rainfall and look at our temperatures by 3 00 p. M. , close to 70 degrees. We are going to have enough heat to fuel some of these thunderstorms and as we continue to progress 4 00 5 00 severe thunderstorm chances. And even as we head into 6 00 7 00, we still are dealing with the chance of showers throughout the philadelphia area stretching into mount holly and parts of trenton. Closer to 8 00 9 00 we should be pretty much done with this system. And well start to see more clearing and thats going to lead to plenty of sunshine for the weekend. Were still dealing with foggy conditions. Look at the poconos, visibility down to zero. Down to one mile in allentown. Mile and 3 4 in pottstown. Mile and a half in reading. Same thing in philadelphia close to one mile visibility down to two miles in wilmington. And less than a mile in mount holly. This is a closer look at what you can kind of make out, the aramark building, you can barely see, thats how foggy it is. Also, our temperatures are cold. It is only 45 degrees in northeast philadelphia. 44 in philly. 43 in pottstown. 44 in allentown. Closer to 50 in Atlantic City and millville. You can see some of that warm air starting to work its way up from the south. Today well see our temperatures ranging between 68 and 79 degrees. Much warmer than what we saw yesterday, even a few locations could push into the 80s.
