Thats some sleet across portions of delaware and south jersey and rain as well. Thats at 5 00 in the afternoon. But as the atmosphere cools, that all changes to snow. And the snow will continue accumulating during the evening hours. So this morning things are pretty quiet. A few icy spots possible. 30 degrees at 7 00. By 9 00 clouds are increasing, 31 degrees. And the first snowflakes arriving in parts of the area especially the western suburbs at lunchtime with a temperature in philadelphia at just above freezing at 33 degrees. Well take you through the future weather hour by hour and right on into the end of this event when im back in ten minutes. But first well go to traffic reporter jillian mele. Good morning to you, bill im starting off with a live look at 295 near route 70. No accidents or delays. The new jersey turnpike looks good. Same for route 73. Heading into philadelphia, holmesburg we have an accident block blocking cottman avenue. And in north philadelphia we have an accident on 25th street and west lehigh avenue. Take 27th york or cambria to get around that accident. Two Police Officers were trying to rush a shooting victim to the hospital when they got into an accident. Nbc 10s jesse gary is live on the scene. Tell us what happened jesse. Reporter well, tracy, they were rushing a shooting victim to the hospital to Temple University hospital when they were hit by this darkcolored lexus on the sidewalk right there. An officer is walking through the scene right now. It will be here for a while as they investigate this accident but essentially the Police Cruiser was headed westbound on lehigh. And that lexus was headed north on 25th and they collide in the intersection. And that knocked the Police Cruiser into that white camaro with a red stripe. That force so severe you can see the air bags on both of the vehicles deployed. Now, there were three people inside the Police Cruiser. The driver a police officer, the passenger, a police officer, and a shooting victim they scooped up from the 2400 block of hollywood and were rushing him to temple when they were hit. Im told that the officers are okay, stable condition, the driver has a deep laceration and possible concussion. Other than that hell be okay. Other than that the passenger has aches and pains hell be you can to. And the shooting victim shot three times in the legs. Hes the most severely injured person, not from the cash but just from the shooting in stable condition. The drivers from the other two vehicles both 29 years old, neither one of them had drivers licenses. They have minor body aches and pains. So the worst of it for them is they ran into a police officer, they dont have drivers licenses, so thats part of the ongoing information. I asked police how they did not see this police car because it had the lights and supers on coming through the intersection they dont know. Thats part of the investigation. He said hey, jerome, if you reach for something youre going to be dead. And later he was. We have video of the Bridgeton Police shooting this man to death on december 30th. This video was obtained and posted on nj. Com overnight. The video, heres video that we gathered that night from sky force 10. This is the night that Jermaine Reid was killed. He was shot when he stepped out of the car. And what we saw on the video was he was shot after the officer told him several times to stay in the car and show his hands. The two officers involved are on paid leave. They have not been charged at this time. A National Civil rights group today plans to ask the state attorney general to appoint a special prosecutor to the case. Five minutes past 5 00 we are following breaking news out of france this morning. In just the past 15 minutes, the french government announced it is hiring 2,600 Counter Terrorism officers. The government also said they are giving Police Officers stronger weapons. This comes after the terror attack on the Charlie Hebdo magazine and the standoff that following later in the week. And we are following breaking news overseas with a palestinian man who stabbed nine people on a bus in tel aviv. The Israeli Police are calling this a terror attack. Four of the victims have serious injuries. The attacker ran off the bus. Officers chased him, shot him in the leg, arrested him. And the Islamic Group hamas did not claim responsibility but praised that attack. 5 05. This is also new from overnight. A deadly crash in the holmesburg section of pennsylvania. The driver lost control and smashed into a concrete stairwell. You can see how crumbled the vehicle is. One passenger was killed another has broken bones with the driver receiving minor injuries. And new information on the shots fired near Vice President joe bidens delaware home. Surveillance video is not give investigators any clues because according to a report in the washington post, the cameras were pointed at the house and not at the main roads where neighbors heard shots fired in the car speeding away. Now a man tells nbc 10 that he was roughed up by police after that incident. Rock peters was on his way home and police wouldnt let him down the road to his house. Court documents show peters also got angry and almost hit an officer before turning around and speeding off and then when officers caught up with him they took him down to the ground because he reached into his possibility. Jurors go back to work this morning later in the fraud trial of the former sportscaster don tollison who used his fame and charity to scam hundreds of people out of hundreds of thousands of dollars that were supposed to go to charities. They say the former sportscaster actually used the money on personal items like dog grooming liquor and landscaping. The jurors worked until 9 00 last night before the judge sent them home to come back this morning. The former boss of the Philadelphia Ironworkers Union will be sentenced in april on racketeering charges. Prosecutors say he ordered violence to get jobs for the members of the ironworkers union. Family members say he might appeal. President obama will hit the road today to sell some of the proposals he spelled out in his state of the Union Address last night. The president will visit iowa to outline steps to increase access and affordability of highspeed broadband internet. He delivered his speech to congress as you know controlled by republicans and talked about recent improvements in the economy and called for a tax hike on the rich and tax cuts to the middle class. 5 07. Tom wolf is beginning his first full day as the 47th governor of pennsylvania. Nbc 10 was in hershey last night as the wolf camp through a party to celebrate with thousands of supporters after his inauguration ceremony. The supporters say they are hoping for a new energy and a new beginning for pennsylvania. Governor wolf will go to work with a Republicandominated Legislature needing to tackle a more than 2 billion budget shortfall. With the weather approaching today, we checked in with the department of transportation in pennsylvania new jersey and delaware to see how they are preparing for the afternoon. In delaware crews will not pretreat the roads because theres so much salt left from this weekend. In new jersey they will brine roads that dont have salt from the weekend. They are monitoring the storm to see if changes need to be made in their plans. And in pennsylvania crews will spray around this morning. Plows will get out later this morning as they wait for the snow to fall. And take a look at how much salt crews used this year compared to last year. We made calls and found this out, so far they have used 18,000 tons this year. Last year it was three times that much. And with snow coming a lot of parents want to know if schools will be letting out early today. Nbc 10 talked to several area superintendents about the process for making that decision. And most of them say they plan to close before conditions worsen. They say, of course their main priority is student safety. So they will be watching the weather closely throughout the day and making that call as things start to work. So parents need to plan for that. And for most of the morning it will stay completely dry. The clouds will be on the increase as we track sleet and snow that arrives this afternoon and stays this evening. Making for a snowy afternoon commute, but the accumulating snowfall continues into the evening hours by late this evening. Thats when well see it finally come to an end. Right now its just cold outside, completely dry in reading, 23 degrees. Might see some breaks of sunshine to begin with in philadelphia, 29. But before the clouds take over later this morning, 23 degrees in trenton right now. And the shore will start with rain but this afternoon the conditions will get colder. So even at the shore youll see accumulating snowfall today. But right now it is dry. The thicker clouds the wet weather is still well to our west. But its moving our way as a clipper, a fast mover. Generally we dont have a lot of moisture. But this one is going to do its best to tap into some of the moisture coming in off the ocean. So im expecting to see more snowfall in parts of delaware and south jersey than in philadelphia and areas north and west. And during the afternoon and evening hours, thats 5 00 look at the snow in delaware and south jersey as the atmosphere gets colder. Look for changing conditions during the day. A dry morning. Temperatures will peak in the low to mid30s this afternoon. Thats early this afternoon. Once the snow and sleet starts thats when the temperatures will start to come down. And thats when youll see sticking temperatures for the area spread across delaware and south jersey. A brief period of sleet and then mainly snow. Also following this this morning, two Police Officers in philadelphia were injured when trying to get a shooting victim to the hospital in their patrol car. The driver of the other cars that were involved in this crash should not have been behind the wheel as they didnt have licenses. And following this video of a deadly Police Shooting on Police Dash Cam video. This was posted online overnight. Were now learning more about the minutes leading up to this traffic stop. This led to the shooting death of a bridgeton man. A community will gather at a church in pemberton to remember an infant that was set on fire by her mother. The mother is hyphernkemberly dorvilier. Witnesses found the baby on fire while the mom was holding a can of wd40 and had a lighter in her jacket pocket. Happening today, a man will go to court to face charges in the shooting death of his daughters boyfriend. Charles jordan has a preliminary hearing. Hes charged with voluntary manslaughter. He shot mark carian to death after finding him in his daughters bedroom last september. At the time he mistook the boyfriend for a burglar in his home apartment. Nbc 10 obtained 911 calls to shed light on what led to a deadly confrontation at a Cape May County home. The homeowner shot and killed an alleged intruder in lower township. A woman in the house called 911 sunday morning and tells the operator shes upstairs as her husband in a wheelchair is down stair stairs confronting an intruder trying to get in the door. Theyre screaming. He has a gun. My husband and hes told them that he has it but theyre trying to get in. The intruder identified as james weaver was unarmed and smashed a side glass door. The man in the wheelchair shot him once in the head killing him. No charges have been filed. A Camden County couple has filed a lawsuit more than a year after their son was run over by his school bus and killed. The parents of 6yearold edmond balk are suing hillman bus company and its School District of watertown. And the parents are asking for toxicology results from the bus driver and for monetary damages. But most of all, they are looking for a change. We want justice for him. We want to make changes, mostly. And we want to make the changes. So no family ever ever has to go through this. Now nbc 10 reached out to hillmans bus company but they wont comment on pending litigation. We also have not heard back from the attorney for the bus company or the superintendent of schools. Its 5 18. A bucks county father faces a hearing next week after hes accused of molesting two young girls during sleepovers at his home. Prosecutors charged david hepsh with sexual assault. And a judge in bensalem set bail at 750,000 yesterday. Both 10yearold victims are friends with his daughter. And investigators say the crimes happened over a year and a half. They say there could be more victims and they are asking any concerned parents to come forward. About 20 minutes after 5 00 now, time to get a check on the highways this wednesday morning. In north philadelphia we are following an up accident at 25th and west lehigh. Take 27th york or cambria streets to get around that. And in the holmesburg section of philadelphia, milnor street is closed because of a serious accident there near cottman avenue. Take state road to get around that. Everything else is on or close to schedule. A cold start this morning. Temperatures have come down but nothing is falling from the skies just yet. That will wait until this afternoon. Clouds will be increasing this morning. Come this afternoon, thats when the snow will be moving in. Some areas will see a bit of sleet to start with but not everyone. A snowy afternoon commute with the snow continuing to accumulate during the evening hours. By late in the evening, this is done. Right now temperatures are certainly cold the 20s for reading, philadelphia and trenton. They will come up above freezing just before the precipitation starts. And at the shore youll start with rain and then see snow developing as the afternoon and evening hours get colder and colder. Satellite shows the clouds thicker to the west. And we are watching this fastmoving clipper make some progress now in southwestern pennsylvania where we are seeing the first precipitation, but its this afternoon they will arrive in the philadelphia area. The first spot to see it is likely in portions of delaware and the western suburb lancaster and burkes county well see a little bit of snow before the rest of the area does. 7 00 this morning, clouds will be on the increase. They will increase through the morning hours. And then by late in the mo morning, temperatures are cold enough to the north and west. This will start as snow farther to the south and east with more of a mix, some sleet and rain at the shore. And in central and southern delaware. Then into the evening hours, look at the snow takeover from philadelphia, the western suburbs will see accumulating snow especially in new jersey right along the coastline. Thats where we could see some higher totals than even in philadelphia. Not much going on at 9 00 in allentown, but we still have light snow in northeast philadelphia and philadelphia international. By late in the evening, though 11 00, midnight, the snow is out of here and will be drying up overnight. So the pocanos are going to get off easy on this one. An inch or less. Some of the Higher Elevations are made to get a little bit more. The allentown area burkes county, much of montgomery and bucks county one to two inches. But more moisture is going to allow the snow totals to go higher in portions of chester, delaware, south philly and into delaware and new jersey where we are expecting two to three inches. In central delaware into Cumberland County atlantic portions of ocean and burlington counties could see two to four inches of snow as this one moves through during the evening hours and continues to intensify during the evening hours. But farther to the south and east, less snow one to three inches as much of it is going to fall as rain to begin with. You wont see snow accumulating with rain. So sleet to start with in some areas quickly changing over to snow. It will be a snowy afternoon and evening with temperatures that will peak before the snow starts in the middle 30s. As the snow falls this afternoon, the numbers start to come down. The full sevenday forecast coming up in the next half hour. And nbc 10 is following several other breaking stories this morning.
