Were following breaking news out of the Port Richmond section of philadelphia. Two teenagers are under arrest and police say they robbed and raped a woman overnight. Nbc 10s matt delucia is live there with police finding the suspects pretty quickly but they are not done right . Thats right. Investigators do have that positive i. D. But are still looking for Surveillance Video from the factories that are nearby. So the fairly Industrial Areas as i step out of the way here by richmond and lewis streets, police are just holding the scene. It is just down the path next to the train tracks. Heres video just past 11 00 where someone reported a person screaming in this area. When the officers got here they found a woman who said she was robbed and sexually assaulted by two men at gunpoint. She gave a description to the officers and both suspects were caught not long after. They were positively identified as i mentioned and found with the victims belongings on them. And both suspects are under the age of 18. She was saying it was a very violent and heinous crime. Fortunately, the woman who was sexually assaulted didnt receive any serious injuries that she needed hospital treatment for. Shes very shaken up as you can imagine. Reporter as you can tell behind me the investigation continues. Both the suspects and victim have been interviewed by detectives overnight. Live in Port Richmond, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. And more breaking news from overnight out of West Philadelphia where two people are dead and another hurt after a victim stopped a pair of wouldbe robbers. Heres what happened late last night, two guys were walking as two men walked up. One pulled a gun and told them to empty their pockets. Instead, one of the victims pulled the gun and shot both robbers. The other victim was also shot and police have not said which two men were killed. And new from overnight a car crash in month zbomgomery county left one person in critical condition. That car slammed into a utility pole and knocked down wires. It is now back open. Now to developments in the German Airways crash in the french alps. They are trying to figure out why the copilot murdered 149 people and killed himself. Vai sikahema is live in the Digital Operations Center following the investigation. Reporter still a lot of questions, but the German Police completed their search at andreas lubitzs apartment and searched his parents home. They appeared to take a computer to examine as part of the investigation. The german prosecutors plan to release the update at 7 00 east coast time but they say at this point they have not found a crucial piece of evidence. Meantime, lubitzs friends reject the investigators claim that lubitz intended to crash the plane. Also, at this point in the investigation, french german and u. S. The Drexel University student and her mom were among three americans in all to die when the German Airways plane slammed into a mountain side. Parishioners at the Catholic Church in Northern Virginia say they feel like they have lost two members of their family. Emilys mom was active with the Childrens Program for many years. Emily sang in the choir. Their pastor says hes having a hard time with this and offers words of comfort to emilys father. We are told to embrace the light. Well, this morning firefighters are still on the scene of that apparent gas explosion that leveled a new york city apartment building. This is a live look here that you can see of the rubble that was once a fivestory building. Officials say no gas odor was reported and no leaks were found before the explosion that injured 19 people four of them critically. The utility con edison says a survey of the gas mains in the area on wednesday found nothing wrong. Plumbing and gas work was going on inside the building and the work failed inspection an hour before yesterdays explosion. Heres a closer look at where this happened on Second Avenue in east village. Fire from the explosion engulfed a toe tall of four buildings, three collapsed. Neighbors jumped in to help before firefighters arrived. Take a look at it the man got into the home through a front window and choked a woman and tried to sexually assault her. This happened around 4 00 yesterday morning on south chadwick street. The victim said the attacker asked for money and grabbed her by the throat. Her husband said shes okay. The intruder did not take anything. Family and Close Friends will bid farewell to hall of famer chuck bednarik. Former players and dignitaries said their final goodbyes at a public viewing yesterday in bethlehem. Bednarik played a franchise record 14 seasons with the eagles started in 1949 as part of two champship teams. His toughness on the field earned him the nickname concrete charlie. The School Reform commission is mapping out a plan to save money and invest more in education in philadelphia. They have already saved the district a few Million Dollars a year by refinancing current bonds. They have also issued 46 million in bonds they will be investigating into the transportation and computer system. The Philadelphia School district is counting on an additional 264 million in new funds from the city and state for next years budget but there are no guarantees. To south jersey where the camden leaders want to help families deal with big changes at their childs schools. Yesterday the superintendent unveiled the new Family Information Center that is a bilingual hotline. Earlier the district announced five of the lowest performing schools will be taken over by nonprofit groups. The groups can bring in new principals new teachers and the leaders say this move is necessary because only one in ten students at the schools performed at grade level. And now from the trenton bureau, parents and students who dont want to take the new standardized tested in new jersey are a step closer to another option. Yesterday the state assembly approved a bill to accommodate the children to give them educational alternatives in another room. They already have the right to opt out of the parcc test with the measure now going to the senate. And in delaware the Parent Teacher association wants parents to have a choice when it comes to a new standardized test there. The pta says parents should be allowed to let their children opt out of the standardized tests. Delaware is moving to a tough new standardized test this year called the smarter balance assessment. Governor jeff markels representatives say this makes a smarter decision in the classroom. And Bristol Township began the new estest building for mary devine elementary school. The district is adding new schools to replace nine of the aging elementary schools. And it is 16 minutes past 5 00. Six months from today pope francis is scheduled to be in philadelphia. So we stopped by the archdiocese to find out aside from all the attractions getting ready, how ready is the executive director of the world meeting of families. We are focused on all things related to transportation security fundraising housing, and everything is in really good shape.
