Now. Matt delucia is live with the latest. Reporter the fire has been out for a little while, but firefighters do remain out here on the scene. You can see all the fire trucks around here behind me. And you can see right behind me there, thats the lights up there right now because investigators are in there trying to figure out what started the fire. Real quickly, im going to go ahead and show you pictures of a witness out here on the scene. You can see the heavy, intense flames out there on the backside of the house on the first and second floor. Again, this was around 2 45 this morning and we do have video we shot for you a short sometime ago on the other side of the house here. This started around 2 45 on first avenue. This is about a block away from fayette street. Several crews came out here because this was very intense as you just saw. Formally, nobody was hurt. Everyone got out safely. And i spoke with a man to live next door he was in his house watching a movie and smelled the smoke. I seen flashing lights so i ran downstairs and opened the door and am greeted by Police Officers basically saying get everyone out. Your whole neighbors house is on fire. Reporter and investigators again as i mentioned are out here on the scene trying to figure out the cause. At the moment first avenue by robinson alley is shut down although we are seeing more crews leaving as the morning continues. Investigators say an overnight fire at a business in cobs creek is suspicious. This broke out around 1 30 this morning. Investigators are talking to a person of interest and so far theres no arrest. And this morning were talking to families living in the Darby Township neighborhood who were allowed to return home after a deadly fire. One man was killed in the fire on west jackson street. Now officials havent yet released the mans identity but neighbors tell us the homeowner is an elderly man. They also described the sound they heard before they walked outside to see the home in flames. It was an explosion. I heard a big explosion and then we just came outside and saw a blazing fire. Fire Officials Say battling the fire was a challenge because the home and the yard were so full of the owners possessions they couldnt get inside. And its 5 03 and investigators could release Surveillance Video in the latest attack at a septa station. A crime that sent the man to the hospital. Police say a group of teens attacked the man on the l platform at 15th and market yesterday afternoon. This comes after an attack on the subway platform at broad and locust less than two weeks ago. In yesterdays incident septa Officials Say the teenagers got into an argts with the victim. One of them punched the man and officials hope the Surveillance Video helps to find the group of teens. Meantime the Philadelphia Police released these pictures of teens they say beat up another teenager on the center city platform on march 19th. They hope someone will recognize them and call police. That attack happened at the walnut locust station and the group of teenagers kicked and punched the victim sitting on a bench. The victim suffered minor injuries and police are investigating to see if the two attacks are connected. And a bucks county man will likely spend the next few decades in prison for stabbing a Police Officer and stealing his squad car. A judge sentenced Matthew Miller to spend up to 35 years behind bars. Last June Bensalem Police Officer michael jakinsky caught miller after walking away from a work release program. Miller stabbed the officer in the stomach with a knife, jumped into his cruiser and drove a short distance before other officers captured him. He was not hurt because of the bulletproof vest. Today the former fbi agent charged with evidence tampering is expected to make a plea deal. Hes accused of stealing heroin and guns from the washington, d. C. Office. On numerous occasions lowry seized drugs during a bust and then kept them for his personal use. We have new information this morning about a man who pleaded guilty to secretly recording women in campus restrooms. A judge sentenced javier mendiolasoto to two years in prison. The former University Graduate student hid cameras in ten locations arounded the university and in newark. And we have information on the massive brawl at Atlantic City high school. 25 students face charges stemming from the march 19th fight. Some students face Assault Charges and others are facing Disorderly Conduct charges. Officers say the principal and the vice principal were attacked while trying to break up the fight and the Security Guard and a Police Officer also suffered minor injuries. And two families will get more than 46 million in damages after a disgruntled coworker killed their loved one. Latonya brown and Latonya Wilson were shot to death after an argument at the kraft food plant in northeast philadelphia. Jurors found the Security Company negligent in in their death. They didnt do null to protect their workers and a security supervisor ran and hid instead of warning people. The victims lawyer tells nbc 10 the verdict sends a strong message to Security Companies across the region. A Security Guard has to stay on post. And not simply run away. You have to call management and tell them that somebody is in the building with a gun. Yvonne hiller is accused of killing both women and wounding another man. U. S. Security associates believes that its percent until on duty made reasonable decisions and acted with courage in the face of a direct threat to their own lives. The company is going to appeal that decision. And the Philadelphia City Council Members will gather again in two weeks to talk about a food safety bill to help prevent explosions like the one we saw last year. They heard testimony about the bill yesterday requiring the Fire Department to inspect propane tanks and city food trucks, but the bill cant move forward any time soon and the state law allows the state to look into the propane tanks. The rage the wage rally will take place today at rutgers campus. It will raise the minimum wage of workers to 15 an hour. This will call for a massive student worker strike in philadelphia on april 15th. And 5 07. Skies are clear. It is dry. And chilly outside. The snow from this time yesterday, thats big bear but this morning its dry and clear. And its cold enough for snow. Wet weather is moving in during the afternoon hours. 40 now. It just dropped to 40 degrees in philadelphia. Look at wilmington 37. 31 in wrightstown and new jersey. It is in the upper 30s in glendora and 36 in voorhees. A cold start this morning but completely dry. Nothing to show you on the radar just yet, but the wet weather is to the northwest. Its moving into northwestern pennsylvania. Thats rain and snow. It will be moving into our region with rain. The exception will be the pocano mountains and areas nearby which will likely see a rain sflosh snow mix. Some areas nearby, you can see snow mixing with the rain to the northwest. That snow stays to the north of allentown. Philadelphia at 5 00 this afternoon, some showers and potentially heavy downpours into the evening hours. At 7 00 the showers are moving out of the area and offshore. Dont leave the house without a warm jacket and a good umbrella. The winds wont be all that strong. Nowhere near as strong as yesterday, but the rain will move in later this morning with clouds increasing to start with. 40s to 50s this afternoon. And it turns chillier before we get to the warm up. Manuel mikes is in jail after Police Responded to a call that a baby wasnt breathing in millville. Mikes said the baby stopped breathing while they fell asleep together and he tried cpr, but the investigators say the baby had head injuries. The girlfriend of a slain Delaware County Police Officer is behind bars this morning on charges stemming from an incident last year. Authorities say tyena finch threatened mark hudson with a knife when he told her to leave his home last august. Hudson was shot and killed with his service gun in his home on saturday. And sources tell nbc 10 authorities expect to charge finch with the murder. For now they are holding her in the assault from last summer. The names of two People Killed in a Small Plane Crash on sunday in Chester County is still a mystery. The National Transportation safety board is looking into the cause of the crash according to the local police department. The piper pa28 went down moments after taking off from Brandywine Airport in west goshen township. Both the passenger and pie lotlot died. We have the latest in the investigation against joe paterno and the ncaa. A judge ruled that paternos estate cannot sue from breach of contract for the ncaas actions in response to the Jerry Sandusky scandal. The judge said this lawsuit repeated the breach of contract claims it had previously dismissed. Despite the ruling, other aspects of the lawsuit will continue to move forward. And prosecutors may be moving closer now to filing criminal charges against the florida eye doctor and new jersey senator bob menendez. A federal investigation has centered on whether that senator abused his office by taking action to benefit the doctor in exchange prosecutors say menendez accepted bribes from salman menjin. He denies any wrongdoing. And the world meeting families visit is in september and now a local high school is joining the momentum ahead of the popes historic visit. Katy zachry is live outside st. And students and staff say they felt called to do more inviting hundreds of students from Jesuit High School from canada and puerto rico. 300 have accepted so far and will be hosted by st. Joes. The students who attend mass here have Small Group Workshops and will process 1. 5 miles where the event will take place over the september weekend. And they have high hopes that the pope will stop here himself. Were putting an invitation out to the holy father and hope our jesuit connection will be a real draw for him and the fact that all the students will be here. People answer the question and i say, the odds are low but i think there might be odds. So were going to go with that for right now. Its causing a slowdown in both directions. I found out about this on twitter. The multivehicle accident on i78 westbound between exit 45 and exit 40 has all lanes closed. This just happened a few minutes ago. Im going to check in with them to find out more information, but for right now if you are traveling if that area you saw the camera we have here causing a slowdown in both directions but the westbound lanes are closed. And 5 18. And its getting colder by the minute. The skies are mostly clear, thats the view of center city. The wind has died down after a blustery day. 40 degrees and falling. That 40 degrees is down 4 degrees in one hours time. Most of the area is seeing very little wind. In fact, look at the water in front of boathouse row. Barely a ripple on the schuylkill this morning. Well see rain falling from the sky as we go into the late morning and afternoon hours. Even though were getting a clear start right now, thats the wet weather that is moving our way steadily. Its already producing some rain and snow in northwestern pennsylvania. That is a big line of snow that extends into Michigan Central michigan getting rain but the detroit area and cleveland, its raining. By the time it gets here were looking at rain in philadelphia for the pocano mountains to see some snow mixing in with the raindrops. Allentown, reading and lancaster, expect to see rain later today. During the day, clouds are on the increase after sunshine to start with and then rain. The first raindrops in philadelphia could be here late this morning, just some very light rainfall. And then steadier rain arriving during the afternoon. So that should allow temperatures to climb into the 50s for philadelphia. Steadier rain tonight and then tomorrow its out of here. And sunshine will be nice and bright. But the temperature will struggle to get up to 50 degrees after a morning low of 36 degrees. But here comes the warm up for thursday. 64 degrees. What a Beautiful Day thursday. And friday well see showers, 68 degrees for the high temperature. It does not last into the weekend, however. A chilly weekend saturday and sunday. 53 degrees both days. Could see showers early on saturday and clearing out in the afternoon. A good deal of sunshine for easter sunday. With an active shooter situation unfolding at a hospital in virginia. Nbc washington is reporting that police are on the scene of a nova Fairfax Hospital in falls church. And information is very limited at this time. All the hospital officials and police are telling the media is there is an active shooter situation at the hospital. They said icahn has, quote, slave labor at the taj, a boarded up facility at the plaza and now hes sticking his foot out to trip the best development this city would have seen in years. Icahn has not responded to the comments but last week the taj mahal defending its decision saying stockton knew that the show boat could not be used as anything other than a casino. Stockton is trying to save the deal but will have to sell the showboat if an agreement cant be reached in two weeks.
