Its a salt truck off the road on its side. The accident involved at least one, possibly two tractortrailers and other vehicles. What i can tell right now is 295 definitely in restrictions there. Traffic is getting by just one lane extreme far lefthand lane around this mess. You can see very slowly its crawling by the scene. New this morning, president obama and Vice President joe biden will be in philadelphia next week to speak to democrats attending a threeday retreat. Democratic lawmakers will be at the Sheraton Society Hill hotel starting next wednesday to map out their legislative agenda for the new congress. The president will speak at a dinner thursday night and Vice President will help close out the retreat on friday. Delaware governor jack markell will deliver his state of the state address in dover. Hes expected to lay out his policy priorities for the new year. State lawmakers expect the governor to address crime in the city of wilmington and New Castle County. Theyll have a narcotic squad that goes after the drug trade but the new chief of the new Castle PoliceDepartment Says theres a better way. You have to pull resources and assign to areas that have the most problems. Colonel setting is using High Technology to lower the crime rate. Inside the emergency hub, every 911 call is logged and analyzed. Resources are shifted to problem areas that show dozens of repeat calls. This couple edd with a federal grant is helping to reduce a heroin epidemic. We now have an obligation to educate the next generation that heroin is not a recreational drug. Reporter part of that educational effort comes from the Clergy Community outreach and a heavy dose of faith is putting many of the afflicted on a different path. Understand that heroin all kinds of drugs and alcohol abuse is not the way. The church has to be an advocate for education and not drugs and crime. Reporter to that effort theres a new 21 Million Library and Resource Center planned to be built right in the heart of the route 9 corridor where the drug trade is the worst set to have Ground Breaking later this spring. Dozens of volunteers spent a cold night counting homeless on the streets of philadelphia. Nbc 10 went out with 200 trained volunteers overnight as they spoke to people on the streets at transit stations and at parks. The aim of the project is to help put people in available housing or shelters. Project home is the organization that coordinates philadelphias count of unsheltered homeless. The winter is harsher weather. Were seeing conditions that are definitely just a lot rougher and if we can gauge how many people are outside on a colder night, it gives us an idea of how many people are particularly vulnerable and perhaps lacking resources. The count is required by the federal government and is tied to some federal funding. Its part of the governments plan to end homelessness in five years. The Liberty Motel is on germantown avenue near broad and westmoreland streets. Police have been called to that block hundreds of times in the last 11 years. The motel reopened last friday after licenses and inspections shut it down in early december. For two decades now, police and lawmakers have clashed with the owners over drugs, prostitution and crime. My kids cant even go out and play. In Delaware County were learning how many times an antioverdose drug in that county. For the past seven weeks now, officers have been carrying narcan with them on calls. Last year there were 49 Overdose Deaths in Delaware County. Also in Delaware County teachers in rose tree district will hold a rally today starting at 3 30 at Media Elementary School leading to a march to media courthouse. Teachers have been working under a contract that expired last summer. And the School Opportunity has been voted to be removed since taking the job two years ago. Shell stay on the payroll through the end of february. The exsuperintendent will replace thomas on an interim bases. The court system in Northampton County may have to delay trials because of a lack of envelopes. The man who prints the envelopes retired and a volunteer is trying to fill his shoes by putting addresses on blank envelopes. A county judge is prepared to ordered the employees to run the print shop to make envelopes. A 250 million project would add dozens of Single Family rooms to the neonatal intensive care unit. Going to Atlantic County now where the sale of revel casino will go to closing next month. A federal judge denied a bid by revels tenants to put that sale on hold while they appeal it.
