This is a live look at route 1 at the toll plaza with a few drivers out there. Nothing out of the ordinary, but we have a problem in norristown with a big fire. Heavy response. We have a main closure of swede street blocked off near oak street and airy street. Take dekalb street main street or markley street. In addition to the closure on swede, we have marshall closed airy street is closed near swede and markley street and Chestnut Street is also closed. Leave yourself extra time if this typically is part of your commute as you could run into a lot of closures in the area. Well talk more about the fire with breaking news overnight and skyforce 10 over the deadly Apartment Fire in Montgomery County. Three people were also hurt including a firefighter. Other reports say the fire broke out at 12 45 this morning along swede street. Nbc 10 was the first on the scene and jesse gary is live on the scene. In the last half hour, he was given an update from the norristown fire chief. Tell us more jesse. Reporter the chief says firefighters were able to pull this fatality out of the building. They were trying to do cpr and rushed that person to the hospital but were pronounced dead at the hospital you can see off in the background they are continuing to spray the back portion of this fivestory Apartment Building here at norristown where the last of the flames were concentrated. As far as getting them under control, they are not out. This is video from earlier this morning. Actually this is skyforce shoaling the much better view of the back of the building and the firefighting efforts going on. Right now three people are injured, two residents, one firefighter. That firefighter was doing a search on the fourth floor of the building and suffered a cut to his hand. All three injuries are considered minor. Well have an update again coming up in another 30 minutes about how the fire, even though the building has sprinklers how the fire was able to make it to the roof. Well have that coming up at 6 00. Jesse gary nbc 10 news. And moving from now breaking news in Montgomery County to more breaking news across the river in mercer county. A Trenton Police officer was hit by a car earlier this morning. The driver of the car was about a mile away with a gunshot wound. Katy zachry is piecing this together for us in Hamilton Township. Katy . Reporter investigators are right now talking to the officer injured. They are also about to interview the suspect in this. And this is what youre looking at right now this is the suspects vehicle. And investigators tell me that he hit several parked cars here on east state street in Hamilton Township. The driver of this vehicle was shot when police got to him. Right now hes in the hospital. He is suffering from nonlifethreatening injuries and investigators are about to interview him. But well take you back to the first scene on walnut and chestnut avenues not far from the Trenton Transit Center where a Trenton Police officer who was standing outside his cruiser this morning was hit by this driver. Now investigators say the officers leg was sideswiped. He had a partner at the scene with him and his partner was not injured. Back out here live with the suspects vehicle, investigators say the police car that was hit or rather after the police car was hit and the officer was injured, the driver sped off. Here is Hamilton Township where he was caught again and shot. Right now its under investigation who shot him. Police say they are looking into that fact right now. Reporting live in hameltown township katy zachry nbc 10 news. And this deadly plane crash was caught on video. Heres a look at the Transasia Airways plane going down. This is one of the dash cam videoes showing the plane tilted on its side on the highway there before it lands in the river. Within the last 15 minutes, we have an update on the rescue efforts. You are looking at a live picture of the rescue efforts going on. The coast guard has dozens of workers and nearly 40 pieces of diving equipment on the scene to help in the search. There are now 13 people confirmed dead. So far 15 survivors. Now we are also seeing video of one of the survivors into our newsroom. The little boy being pulled from the plane and put on a raft was rushed to the shore and taken to the hospital. One person has died in this Apartment Fire. Skyforce 10 is over the scene. We were updated by the norristown fire chief who said it started in a trash chute. Certainly its cold enough at 25 degrees. The good news is the winds today and the cold from yesterday has died down. Its calm this morning. Were watching very light snow its really falling apart. Its just falling in New Castle County and salem county. Farther to the north, Delaware County is seeing a few snowflakes. Most of these are not reaching the ground in nor ristown. Farther to the north and west they are falling apart. A flurry is possible this morning, but then we get a break from the clouds with temperatures rep responding. By 12 00 noon 38 degrees in philadelphia and climbing into the lower 40s this afternoon. Well get enough sunshine that it will feel a lot warmer today. But it is a oneday warm up tomorrow as we look at the cold and a chance for some snow. One of the beginning effects of the large fire in norristown is the impacts on the streets and traffic and other forms of transportation in the area. Now it is affecting mass transit. She just got back to me and the bus routes listed here will be affected, 90 96 98 and 131. If thats part of your commute, leave yourself extra time. Thats going to be closed between dekalb and markley. Airy street near swede and barbadoes and oak and chestnut are closed as well. Take markley street or airy street to get around it. And we have multiple fire crews on the scene of a fatal fire in norristown at this apartment complex. People have been displaced with the red cross on scene. They have set up a nearby shelter the at a nearby school on the perimeter of the fire scene. We are checking to see if that will be open today. Well check on the conditions of those injured although the fire chief said the injuries are minor. Well have an update at 6 00. 5 44. We are back on the scene of breaking news in Montgomery County. A fire at this Apartment Building, we know its taken one persons life. One person killed in this fire this morning. Fire crews still on the sc ghter. The fire chief tells us the injury to the firefighter is minor. We are still working to find out more about the other two injured and what their conditions are. And a viewer sent Tracy Davidson some video of one of the people being rescued. A pretty dramatic rescue by the fire crews there. We are working on getting that ready to show you in a few minutes. And we have breaking news out of trenton where investigators try to piece together what happened overnight here. Heres what we know, a Police Officer was hit by a car. The driver in the car kept going. Heres a live picture of the suspects car that was found about a mile and a half away from the first scene in Hamilton Township. The suspect was shot but it is unclear who shot him. Investigators are talking to the officer and the suspect right now. And we have new information now on this breaking news out of taiwan. A deadly plane crash here. You can see the plane in the river there. This is earlier before sunset. Taiwans Civic Aeronautics Administration says that 19 people are confirmed dead in this crash. And the headline perhaps 15 people survived. 24 people still missing as rescue efforts continue there in the river in tapei. A live picture of the scene here. Again, 24 people unaccounted for. So this could take well into the night to continue this search and rescue effort here in taiwan. But we have seen the dramatic video taken from cameras, dash cams off cars on highways showing the plane crash. Investigators are working now to find out why the plane went down. And in other news jordan executed two al qaeda prisoners in retaliation for the murder of a jordanian pilot by isis. One prisoner was captured after her suicide vest failed to go off in jordan in 2006. Isis demanded her return over the weekend. Jordan officials were considering a prison swap but wanted proof the pilot was still alive. They believe he was killed just days after being captured in december. A delaware man was taken off death row and given his freedom 24 years ago after being convicted of murder. A judge decided that jermaine wrights videotape should not have been allowed in crime. Officers did not read him his miranda rights and he was accused of murdering a Liquor Store Clerk back in 1991. The store clerk talked to nbc 10 after hearing about wrights release. Confession stands for itself. You killed my fire is proof. Wright is home with his family while prosecutors appeal for a new trial. Now to the Atlantic City crisis. Trump taj mahal will be given 20,000 tomorrow to help it stay open through this year even though the Parent Company is in bankruptcy. Meantime, the main casinos Workers Union filed charges against the taj mahal yesterday. The potential buyer for the former Revel Casino Hotel is threatening again to walk away this time if the sale is delayed beyond monday. Revel lawyers are asking to stay in their location. The revel is sueing saying that the nightclub needs to close admit making 15 million in assets. Two Atlantic City casinos are facing a fine. The Golden Nugget is fined 4,000 for failing to shuffle playing cards last summer. And another was filed 5,000 for losing two slot machines and filing paperwork saying all the machines were accounted for. A cold start this morning. And now were watching some clouds roll through philadelphia. Theres a chance to see a flurry this morning, but not much more than that. Temperatures are cold enough for snow at 25 degrees. But the wind has died down so windchill windchills are falling. The clouds will break this afternoon with a nice warm up. This is the light snow that is trying to fall from the clouds but the air right at the surface is so line. Most of this evaporates before hitting the ground. Well see the clouds maybe a flurry or two, and then breaks of sunshine with clouds thinning out throughout the day today. And a warm up today. But tomorrow theres another chance of snow from these clouds that are moving toward the midwest. You can see the snow that is going to be moving into the ohio valley later tonight and early tomorrow morning with scattered snow showers north and west. It doesnt look too significant but theres the possibility that well see a coating in some spots tomorrow morning. Yesterdays high was 30 but well be in the lower 40s today. Tomorrow, the cold is back. 30 in the morning. The light snow comes through in the morning and then the wind kicks in. Thats going to keep our temperatures in the very low 30s. 1degree warm up tomorrow. Then the wind drags in colder air for friday. Saturday, a nice recovery up to 42 degrees after a morning low of 25 degree. And then clouds building on sunday into monday and tuesday, a system that is going to linger with snow and rain for the area. The moral of the story, lets enjoy 42 degrees. We will. And some of the other closures include marshall street blocked off near dekalb and markley, airy street is closed between swede and barbadoes. And pothole problems have returned. In one hour last night, four drivers pulled over with flat tires after hitting a stretch of potholes on city avenue in overbrook park. Something that ends up being quite costly. My fourth tire change today. Its just mine. Reporter fourth today just from this stretch . Yes. You can see this in the parking lot. The bumpy part of city avenue plaguing drivers is actually directly adjacent to the stretch resurfaced last year. Penndot says it will be resurfaced some time this season. Now to another problem caused by the weather, the Streets Department in philadelphia is behind on picking up trash and delays will continue this week. The department claims the backlog on last weeks storm. Residents should still put out trash and recycling outside on the regularly scheduled day. If crews dont pick it up then they will come back the next morning. 5 51. More signs of a turnaround in camden. A new report shows students there feel much safer than they did a year ago. A new District Survey shows the number of students who feel safe walking to and from school has tripled in the past year. 62 of middle schoolers say the feel safe outside. Thats up from 20 last year. Camdens police chief says its a collaborative effort between the district and police to ensure safe corridors for students. There is still some work to be done. In the same survey, 57 of parents say they wish their child attended another school. Now to Delaware County. Haverford college will use 10 million in gifts to turn its old gym into a lab for the digital arts. Anonymous donors sent the gift to keep the project moving forward. The college will build the new center at the heart of the campus and students will use the facility to learn about Digital Media and how to impact society. Construction begins later this year.
