All right, jillian. 6 01 now. New from overnight, weve confirmed that a row home fire in reading killed two people. This happened on spruce street in reading around 8 30 last night. Now, someone who was in the area at the time snapped this photo. We found it on the social media discovery app banjo. You can see just how big the flames were at the height of this fire here. Investigators have not released the identities of the victims, but neighbors tell us that an elderly couple lived inside that home. Investigators in philadelphia are trying to figure out if an overnight garage fire is suspicious in nature. Two Police Officers were actually injured at this fire in frankford. Heres what happened. There was a car in the garage at the time. A shock absorber blew off the car, hitting both officers in the leg, breaking the leg of one officer. The other officer needed stitches. Two people who live near the garage are out of their homes this morning. Police in bucks county say a man who shot an intruder who was trying to break into his apartment will not face charges. This happened last night along bobolink drive in bensalem. Investigators say the burglar broke into one apartment and stole a dog, and then he tried to get into a second apartment and the resident there shot him. What he was looking for, we are not really sure but one homeowner, he confronted one homeowner who stood his ground and fired twice, shooting him both hitting him both times. The suspect right now is in critical condition. 6 03 now. Today an autopsy is scheduled for a 10yearold boy who was hit and killed by a Police Cruiser as an officer was responding to a call. The accident happened at delsea drive and paul street in Franklin TownshipGloucester County. Nbc 10s jesse gary joins us live from outside the Franklin TownshipPolice Headquarters with the latest on the investigation. Jesse . Reporter chris, i talked to the overnight supervisor here about this and i was told that the chief is the only person who can answer questions about this departments policy of using lights and sirens when responding to a service call. I also contacted the county Prosecutors Office but i havent heard anything back about the investigation. The accident happened last night as the victim and two friends walked to i sleepover. The boys family says the 10yearold crossed delsea drive, its also route 47, and never saw the Police Cruiser coming before it hit and killed him. Two other children were unharmed. The officer behind the wheel was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. Now, witnesses say the patrol car did not have flashing lights or siren activated. Police will not confirm or refute that. Ive been looking online and found that a lot of people across the country like the idea of police having the lights and sirens, because that alerts them to move out of the way, but some worry it can lead to excessive speeding by some Police Officers and crashes. Happening today in montgomery county, several people charged in a penndot Corruption Scandal are scheduled to appear in court. Ten people are accused in an overbilling scheme that prosecutors say cost taxpayers 1. 2 million. Two penndot managers and eight contractors are charged. The attorney general says those managers took kickbacks to look the other way, ignoring falsified time sheets and mileage reports. Today, seven of the defendants have a preliminary hearing. A man is hit and killed in Burlington County around 5 30 yesterday in mt. Laurel. Police say a car struck the victim on south Church Street between academy and st. David drive. The driver stayed on the scene. The victim has not yet been identified. Divers returned to the Schuylkill River to resume their search for Shane Montgomery yesterday. Nine divers from the garden state underwater Recovery Unit combed the river where montgomerys keys were found two weeks ago. The 21yearold West Chester University student disappeared early thanksgiving morning after a night out with friends in manayunk. They did an extensive search of mostly on the main street side of the river. With the current being the way it is, the dive team believed that thats the way shane would have gone. Shanes family has vowed to continue searching for him until he is found. The reward for information in this case now stands at 65,000. Police in delaware say an 18yearold man led troopers on a chase in a stolen car before crashing. The pursuit began just after midnight when an officer spotted the car going through the intersection of Old Baltimore pike and salem church road in newark. The trooper realized the car was stolen, tried to pull over the driver. Police say the chase continued until the car hit a curb at old coach road and Henderson Hill road. 18yearold Michael Gordon was taken into custody and faces numerous charges. Six children are charged with trespassing after Philadelphia Police say they broke into a school. Investigators tell us the kids stole markers and other small items from the Walter Palmer charter school. The alleged young burglars are all between 10 and 12 years old and are not Walter Palmer students. Happening today, a philadelphia lawmaker will call for support of police and changes in the relationship between Law Enforcement and the public. State representative Curtis Thomas will hold a briefing at 11 00 this morning. A statement from his office says thomas will call for the expansion of Police Advisory committees, regular Police Meetings with the community and additional bike police. Tensions remain high between police in many communities across the country, as evident by a protest this past weekend. Some gathered to support police while others demonstrated against recent policerelated deaths. Thousands of officers turned their backs to the screen showing new york mayor bill de blasio at the funeral for Brooklyn Police officer rafael ramos. Many Police Officers blame him for furthering the divide but the Police Commissioner called the display inappropriate. Well this is a mayor that cares very deeply about new york city Police Officers cares very deeply about the divide in this city at this time and is working very hard to heal that divide. One solution that is getting overwhelming support, officers wearing body cameras. Many people believe it will help rebuild the trust between citizens and officers. And in northeast philadelphia, a church spread the message spoken by many protesters across the country, black lives matter. A large group gathered for this service yesterday. They prayed for peace and talked about ways to bridge the gap that they say exists between Law Enforcement and the community. Know that all lives matter but were bringing the church and the Community Together just to keep these issues before the people. The church also has a program in which officers talk to members of the community about how to interact with police. Medical experts in west africa say malaria is killing thousands more people than ebola. According to doctors there, the push to stop ebola has hurt the countrys battle with malaria, which is preventible and treatable. In guinea malaria is the leading cause of death in children under the age of 5. In adults only aids kills more people there. And back in the states the Ebola Response coordinator called a recent cdc lab accident unacceptable. A Lab Technician mishandled materials during an experiment and may have come in contact with a live ebola virus.
