After his loss in nevada, senator Bernie Sanders spoke about looking ahead to the Democratic National convention here in philadelphia this summer. And hes predicting an upset. I believe that when democrats assemble in philadelphia in july at that convention, we are going to see the results of one of the great political upsets in the history of the united states. [ cheers and applause ] tonight we spoke to political experts and voters about how this president ial election could be one for the history books. Nbc 10s Randy Gyllenhaal will have that story coming up at 11 15. New at 11 00, a man is in the hospital tonight after a staircase collapsed beneath him in old city philadelphia. Nbc 10 was on the scene at the vest tricondominiums on Church Street tonight. He injured his leg when the stairs gave way underneath him. He was trapped until firefighters could free him. Officials with licenses and inspections were called to investigate. Also new at 11 00, there is a call for action by the Union Representing new jersey Corrections Officers. This after reports of inmates attacking officers. Union officials tell us its happened to four Corrections Officers at new jersey prisons in recent weeks. They sent us these pictures ofsome of the alleged injuries. The union wants state lawmakers to pass a bill that would establish a Compensation Program for certain Law Enforcement officers injured while performing their official dutie duties. Hundreds rallied in philadelphias chinatown today demonstrators took to the streets of center city to protest the conviction of nypd officer peter liang. Liang was convicted of manslaughter in the 2014 accidental shooting death of an unarmed man in brooklyn. Protesters believe that liangs con springs was unjust and the result of social pressure along with political influence. What is injustice for the victim cannot be made better by more injustice done to a young police officer. Its the society that should do better. Protesters tell us the new York Police Department did not give liang proper and adequate training. This protest was one of dozens that happened across cities today in support of officer liang. Now to our first alert weather. The ice was packed tonight at the blue cross river rink on penns landing. Skaters didnt have to bundle up too much as the mild temperatures made for a nice night out. And current temperatures are still looking good after most of the area reached the lower 60s this afternoon. Still into the mid 40s toward philadelphia, 53 toward potstown, 59 toward melville. 53 dover, poconos near 50 degrees. A very far cry from the 30 below wind chills we were talking about right around this time last were week. Were looking at a 24hour temperature change of 22 degrees toward the poconos, 13 in allentown, a 19degree difference in potstown, 7 degrees in philadelphia. Of so even more dramatic changes to the north across the higher elevations. We keep things dry during the overnight hours but tracking some rain into tomorrow. 9 00 a. M. Still looking dry with increased cloud cover to the north. Your planner for south jersey and delaware into the mid 50s by the afternoon. Also looking warm as we head into the afternoon toward the i95 corridor. Heading northward well increase the clouds through the course of the morning and afternoon. 8 00 a. M. Temperatures north and west around 39 degrees. Were looking at mid 40s by the afternoon hours. Again we are tracking a disturbance that is going to bring us rainfall around lunch time. We have new information tonight on a deadly condo fire in burlington county, new jersey. Were learning more about the woman found dead on her couch hours after firefighters put out the flames. The womans family became worried when they saw reports of the fire here on nbc 10 and hadnt heard from their relative. Nbc 10s Andrea Kline Thomas explains. Reporter a stillness fell over the florence toll gate condominiums as firefighters removed the body of 72yearold irene thorn villian from her charred unit. She was a kindhearted person. She loved animals, loved people, loved her family. She went out of her by for everybody. Reporter skyforce 10 captured the scene after 9 30 friday night. Flames were billowing out of the building by the time firefighters had arrived. Part of the roof had already collapsed. Residents were running for their lives. The structural soundness of the Building Made it tough for the firemen to get in there. Reporter it wasnt until this morning that lisa reid was watching nbc 10 and first learned about the fire. She recognized the building. No one had heard from her aunt. Lisa called the hospital, called the red cross. I kept calling everywhere. They said no, we dont have her. Reporter with daylight firefighters returned to the scene and did another search of the building. Reid says they found her aunt on the couch. She was posupposedly in good health. Investigation continues to determine a cause and find out why the victim was unable to escape from the flames. I had to come back for my own peace of mind. I have to see it again. Six people were injured in the fire including three first responders. As of tonight one person remains in the hospital with a broken heel. Its packed just like on new years day. Thats what fires us up collectively. The parade is a fundraising effort for the string bands that rely on donations to help pay for their costumes and sets. Dozens rushed in to take a dunk in the brandiwine creek in westchester today. Each plunger raised money for the brandywine red clay aliners which works to protect natural resources. Now your nbc 10 first alert weather. The beautiful start to the weekend and it looks like temperatures will actually remain quite mild as we head into tomorrow. But of course we are also tracking some rainfall for the second part of your sunday. Weve got showers that are going to be approaching. The first part of the day not looking too bad. Another storm system thats going to bring us additional wet weather thats mostly going to be for next week. The overall pattern not looking too bad. 46 in philadelphia right now, 53 towards pots town, 49 degrees toward the poconos. Still in the mid 50s here toward a good chunk of delaware extending into wildwood and atlantic city. The next couple of hours the temperature not going to be dropping a whole lot. Again tonight looking very very comfortable after reaching the lower 60s for today. Even as we head into the 7 00 a. M. Time frame, lower 40s. Again just such a big difference in just one week. Now again were starting to seat beginnings of our band of rain thats going to move in as we head into tomorrow. You can see some rain on the flooufr right across st. Louis. We keep things dry the next couple of hours. But you can see the overall trend here is to shift east and not necessarily northward. This is mainly going to be an impact for areas from philadelphia extending southward. Sunday 2 00 p. M. Still dry, warm temperatures into the 50s. Again its later in the day that the showers start to move in. Its not going to be one big solid area of rainfall. So overall if you are going to head out and about grab that umbrella as you head out the door. Monday 3 00 a. M. Things start to clear out. It looks like this will be long gone by the morning rush on monday. The good thing is were not looking at a drastic temperature drop behind this although it will certainly be cooler as we head into monday. Temperatures will really just be rebounding back to normal after the excessive warmth weve had in place over the last 24 hours. Mid 40s in philadelphia, 37 degrees the low toward the north and west as we head into tomorrow. Still looking warm, but again rain starts to develop mostly in the afternoon as temperatures actually remain into the 50s. Overall sunday not looking too bad especially not early.
