Hundreds of passengers were evacuated from new yorks Busiest Airport after somebody reported hearing gunfire. Heres what we know. Passengers in two terminals at Jfk International airport were forced to leave. Police searched but didnt find anyone with a gun and didnt find any shell casings. The sound of people cheering and clapping while watching the olympics on tvs at the airport may have been mistaken for the sound of gunfire. Passengers are now being allowed back in while the investigation continues. Now in the dangerous heat smothering our area. Still sweltering in center city, philadelphia. We look from the campus camera. The extreme heat turned deadly this weekend and the heat wave will be with us for the start of our workweek. Lets get to chief meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz and the first alert neighborhood forecast. This is impacting the entire area, including the shore which has seen temperatures well into the 90s. The worst of it is in philadelphia, delaware and in south jersey where its been feeling like its 105 or even higher. The extended first alert through tuesday and into the evening. And the longer the heat wave is the more danger there is. All that heat builds up and things dont cool down at night very much. And the longer the heat wave, historically, the more the fatalities. This is the list of the days of the heat wave. We peaked at 98 degrees yesterday. It felt like 110. Felt like 104 today and over the next two days, feeling like about 102 with temperatures in the mid90s. This heat wave continues. Right now its 81 degrees in philadelphia and 80 in wilmington. 75 in dover. Temperature knocked down there because of a thunderstorm, but it felt like about 115 there today. And the feelslike temperature still 85 in philadelphia. So it is a warm night. Its going to be another hot day tomorrow. By 11 00 a. M. , temperatures already approaching 90 degrees. Well let you know when we get a break from this and when we see some storms. This heat remains a storm threat. Its being blamed on three deaths in philadelphia over the weekend. And in a close call in bucks county, a baby is safe after being left in a hot car. Drew smith is tracking the dangerous heat all around our region. A rescue in bensalem led to the arrest of an aunt and grandmother. They were shopping at this target and forgot a 1yearold baby was in their car. Roasting for 14 minutes. Two children are hurt in an atv crash that happened in camp den county. The two boys were riding on north grove street in berlin when they collided with a pickup truck. They say that the instrument is an extension of your hands. And some say its an extension of your body. But to me, its not. Its an extension of my soul. Strange numbness and then areas of vision started disappearing from view. The first doctor told me i had multiple sclerosis. I was, do not tell me that. I do not want to hear this. Reporter his mri scan showed how serious it was. Had over 50 lesions in my brain. My whole brain looked like street lights. Those lesions or destruction of tissue took their toll fast. I couldnt line up four fingers on one string. I had no control over my muscles. I could startly walk. At that point i decide this is just not happening. Reporter for the next two years he set out to find answers that neurology and medicine had overlooked. I started drinking half my body weight in ounces of water a day. Reporter he changed his diet. Vegetables, nuts. Sunflower seeds, fruits. Reporter adopted a rigorous exercise routine. I start every morning with a yoga session. And then i lift weights. I do chinups. And i do handstands. Reporter it took constant determination, discipline and fighting. But eventually, bob heard from doctors what can only be described as music to his ears. He said you did the impossible. Reporter bobs lesions have disappeared. There is some theory out there that what he did has some affect on his immune function. Its not a controlled clinical trial, but its encouraging. And ive used his example on four patients because we have many patients unfortunately who arent doing well. Reporter there is no known cure for ms, but bob is living symptomfree. And you can see the feelslike temperature peaked at 110 yesterday with a High Temperature of 98. Todays high 97. Monday and tuesday, 95 degrees. So that heat wave is going to continue. And its going to feel like its close to 90 degrees even at 7 00 in the morning down toward the shore by noontime. Feeling like the 90s across most of the area. Close to 100 degrees by 5 00, and then this computer model has it even higher on tuesday. 100. 103. 105. 105 in dover again. Thats tuesday afternoon. We dont expect anything like that during the day tomorrow, but tomorrow night, we could see some more strong thunderstorms and another round possible on tuesday. And as we go through the next few days, the best chance of thunderstorms is coming in on tuesday. By wednesday, not quite as hot. Thursday, we may break the heat wave but just barely.
