The Philadelphia School district says one of its bus drivers followed protocol when the 8yearold was dropped off. But his mother tells nbc 10, she was told an employee on a break spotted her son wandering alone outside and brought him to safety. Nbc 10s Andrea Klein Thomas went searching for answers. Reporter Gretchen Alford is holding on to her son a little tighter after a phone call she received on tuesday from one of the directors at laurens house. Thats the medical daycare facility armani goes to after school. She said, well, you know, armani is here, but we didnt know he was here. The bus didnt give us a call. One of the aides seen that he was discovered him outside, and im like at work, excuse me . Reporter alford said she was told her 8yearold happened to be found outside alone by an aide who came out to take a smoke break. Armani was unharmed. This is a busy street. For my child to not know danger or sense danger is very scary. Reporter add to that a Parole Office is right next door. When i got the phone call, i immediately felt nauseous. Ever since youve been born, ive been feeling like i need to protect him. Reporter we contacted the Philadelphia School district that transports armani to the daycare facility. They sent us this response. We take the report of this incident seriously as the safety of our students always comes first. There are conflicting reports as to exactly what happened. It is our protocol for the driver to call the center if no one is outside. Our driver reports that there was a worker from the center outside. It is also our protocol to have an attendant on the bus, and that protocol was followed. So we returned to laurens house again for clarification. The director declined an oncamera interview and said they too focus on providing a caring and safe environment for children. But corporate policy bans her from giving the media any specifics on what happened. The director did give a statement to police when Gretchen Alford called them to file a report. Police told nbc 10 it could take days to get us a copy of that report. I cant take this lightly because if i do take it lightly, what happens to another child . Reporter questions remain about what exactly happened to armani. Meantime, armani is not taking the bus anymore. His grandmother is driving him from school to the daycare facility. New at 11 00, a grand jury is investigating allegations of sex abuse in the allentown and harrisburg diocese. Thats according to a state representative who says he testified before the grand jury as a victim of priest sex abuse. State representative mark rozzy in berks county says he was abused by an allentown die e soes priest back in 1984. We reached out tot diocese late tonight and havent heard back. Neither diocese has confirmed, but they told the morning call they are committed to protecting children and have a policy of cooperating with authorities. New tonight from delaware, a stoot trooper hospitalized after a crash with a man who was driving the wrong way. State police say it happened on state route 1 in dover around 6 00 tonight. Police say the 77yearold drive crashed into a state police car headon at the north creek road exit. He died in the crash as did his dog. Today the Consumer ProductsSafety Commission said its issuing an immediate official recall for a million galaxy note 7 phones. The nypd says officers confronted akram joudeh when they caught him trying to take a boot off his car tire. They say joudeh then pulled out an 11inch cleaver and ran down the street. An officer tackled him before he allegedly hit the officer in the head with the cleaver. The suspect was shot by police. Hes in critical condition. The officers in serious condition, and two other officers were also hurt. Todays attack comes two years after a man with a hatchet ambushed a group of nypd officers in queens, new york. That suspect, who was a lone wolf terrorist, was shot and killed by police. Family members call it a miracle. An Atlantic CityPolice Officer out of the hospital less than two weeks after he was shot in the head.
