Water rescues in a Shopping Center after a massive water main break turns the parking lot into a lake. Then a waterfall as Rushing Water pours on to nearby train tracks. Look at this. Skyforce10 got this view of a man carrying a woman on his back through those floodwaters. Good evening. Im jacqueline london. And im jim rosenfield. Nbc10 was the first to bring you this water main break live on nbc10 news at 5 00. And heres what the scene looks like tonight. The water is off tonight, but theres still a major mess to clean up. Nbc10s keith jones is live at that Shopping Center in east falls. Keith, this water main break comes with a really hefty price tag. Reporter you could say that again. At least 100,000 in damage in each of these stores. Youre talking about a big mess. We wanted to go live inside one of these stores, but its so messy, it doesnt make any sense for us. Take a look behind me. Theres a lot of activity here. The back hoes are at work, digging out, cleaning all the debris left over from what was a messy day with hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. Once again, theyre cleaning up. Six million gallons of water. This woman among 75 who were rescued. 150 other people needed to be sheltered in place or carried by boat, like this man trapped in rising water in his car. It flowed down onto train tracks. Bonita jones was caught in that water. I should have stayed put, but i panicked and ran through the water. It was up to my thighs. Reporter her car fared worse. The water was way past my tires. Reporter officials tell me dozens of cars are totaled. Look at this white car. The water is up to its windshield. Where im standing right now was under several feet of water and it all came from this gaping hole behind me. Water gushed uncontrollably, spilling into storefronts. It was kind of scary because i didnt know what was going to happen. Reporter its the fourth water main break in three years. It looked like an ocean outside. Reporter this is uri jacobson, owner of got the look. He told us his insurance barely covers the damage. Were very shocked that the city never fixed it. Theyve been fixing it out there for over a year, and this happened again. Reporter the Water Department is still looking for a cause. Its the second time this 48inch main burst, and there were already milliondollar plans to replace it. I dont want to diminish what these folks have gone through repeatedly. That is that is not anything we want to do. When we make the repairs, we make them so it doesnt happen again. Unfortunately its a different location. Reporter back live now, you see theyre hard at work. They may not even repair this line. Every store has water, including got the look, which we were inside, which doesnt look so good right now. This work will continue overnight. Its up to these businesses now whether they can clean up in time to get these stores back open tomorrow. As keith mentioned, this isnt the first time this area has dealt with a water main break. In fact, nbc10 has reported on three previous incidents at that same location in just the past few years. There was one in january of 2014, and two more in june and september of last year. New at 11 00, police are looking for the gunman who shot two kids tonight in chester. Skyforce10 was over the scene in the 600 block of central avenue. Police tell us an 11yearold girl and 13yearold boy were shot on the street around 8 00. Were told their injuries do not appear to be lifethreatening. Also new at 11 00, a customer was shot after stepping in to help a worker at a north philadelphia corner store. Police say a man was pointing a gun at the cashier inside the store in the 2000 block of north grat street when the victim grabbed the gunmans arm and ended up getting shot in the leg. Police are still shoiearching f that gunman. Now to decision 2016. Some starstudded support in the push for pennsylvania as we head into the last weekend in the race for the white house. He told a crowd in hershey that unlike clinton, he doesnt need stars to draw thousands of supporters to his rallies. I hear we set a new record for this building. The republican nominee also pointed out how critical pennsylvania is to his chances of winning the presidency. A judge says thats when shell decide if the septa strike could affect the election, and until then workers can stay on the picket lines. Nbc10s drew smith is live for us in center city now with the latest on these negotiations, turned into a legal battle today. Drew. Reporter there has been no signs of the negotiators coming in and out of this hotel. No news of a deal tonight. There is growing frustration among some people that theres so much time and effort being spent away from this hotel and, instead, inside a courtroom. Both sides agree four days of the septa strike have caused major inconveniences, but the unions lawyers argue thats not enough to order employees back to work. That is not a basis under pennsylvania law to grant an injunction against striking employees. Reporter septa called for the emergency hearing, which lasted more than two hours. Its lawyers claim delays on regional rail, effects on school attendance, and traffic impacting medical appointments are reason enough to force drivers to return. A clear and present danger to the health, safety, and welfare of our riders. Reporter a judge disagreed tonight, but septa still plans to push for a courtordered end to the strike. Were not going to lie down. While we cant resolve this strike and just watch our passengers suffer. Not going to do it. Reporter a hearing is now set for monday morning, where a judge plans to hear evidence that a strike would affect voters unable to get to the polls. The unions Attorney Says no one takes septa to polling places. If the campaigns were concerned about that, they would be beating the drum. Reporter and the union called these legal tricks by septa to avoid real bargaining. Meanwhile, septas lawyer did not answer followup questions from us tonight. A former student at Rutgers University returned to its Business School and stabbed a faculty member, another student and then himself this afternoon. The school tweeted out an alert shortly before 3 00 saying there had been a stabbing at the Business School on the New Brunswick campus. All three people were taken to the hospital. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is canceling several Campaign Stops he planned on making for donald trump in New Hampshire tomorrow. The move comes after two of christies former top aides were convicted in connection with the bridgegate lane closure scandal. Bridget kelly and bill baroni were accused of orchestrating the jam on the George Washington bridge in september of 2013. They were found guilty on all seven charges of conspiracy and wire fraud. A body was found on the same property where Authorities Say a missing woman was held captive for months. Today the owner of the property, registered sex offender, todd kolep, appeared in court on kidnapping charges. He was arrested after police found kala brown locked and chained in a storage container on his property. Prosecutors expect more charges after discovering weapons and a car they say belonged to browns boyfriend. Brown has told authorities she believes at least four bodies are buried in the area. The body found today has not been identified. Safety concerns for new jersey transit. Today lawmakers grilled executives in trenton, this after they didnt show up at a similar hearing just weeks ago. The agency new director revealed a number of safety violations from a federal review. These include a lack of onboard emergency tools and working fire extinguishers on some trains as well as workers using cell phones when they shouldnt.
