Tonight, mitch blocker shows us one lawmakers plan to stop it. This is not union boausting. Reporter the pittsburgh representative is trying to end what he calls ghost teaching. School districts pay teachers who never step foot in a classroom. Instead, our investigation finding teachers around the state working fulltime in their union offices. There are teachers, qualified, teachers that should be in the classroom doing union work. Work that should be done on their own time. Reporter according to the nonprofit the commonwealth foundation, 109 School Districts across the state allow union leave according to a review of union contracts. In philadelphia, there are 26 Union Members not in schools but working in the union office. Were finding similar stories across the state, including here in allentown. Despite more than 100 teacher layoffs since 2000, the district paid more than 1 million to the Teachers Union president not to work in a classroom but instead to work in the union office. The representatives bill would limit how many Union Employees can leave the classroom to work for their union. If it comes to a floor vote, it will pass. Who could be against it . Reporter for one, the unions, including socalled philadelphia ghost teacher and Union President jerry jordan. Its not a problem for students. Reporter in a june memo, he called the legislation nonsense cal and says its based on the false member is educators are out of the classroom at the expense of children and taxpayers. Representative calls his bill common sense. When asked if he is trying to union bust, he told us im not against unions. Reporter nbc 10 news. What if you could finally hang up on all those annoying robocalls . The attorneys general from pennsylvania and delaware are pushing the federal government to make that possible. They want phone companies to be able to block spoofed phone numbers. Scammers use them to pose as legitimate businesses. According to pennsylvanias attorney general, they are one of the top consumer complaints. 4,473 consumers reported getting them despite being on the do not call list. Pay up or lose your ride. Thats the warning tonight from the pennsylvania turnpike commission. Under a new law, more than 10,000 drivers with multiple unpaid toll violations could lose their registration. The commission has some good news for all drivers. Anyone with an overdue violation can have the extra fees waved as long as the bill is paid by august 4th.
