We took their concerns to ron hopkins, assistant general manager of operations on septa. Engineers are working around the clock to determine how to repair the cracks in the silver liner five trains, and what caused the defect discovered last friday. We probably have well over 50plus engineers that are working with us. With internal engineers. Reporter during our oneonone conversation, hopkins also says theyre reviewing leasing contracts with agencies like new Jersey Transit and amtrak. The train sets are five cars, six, or eight cars long. So if were able to get a full train set, thats our goal. Im not sure which is the worst option at this point. President obama said more troops will stay in afghanistan longer than planned. The president made that announcement this morning here at the white house. The new numbers reflect compromise between his original plan and what military commanders had recommended. The president originally planned to drop troop levels in afghanistan to 5,500 by the end of the year, but today he revealed hell be keeping about 8,400 troops there when he leaves office. The videotaped shooting death of a black man by police in baton rouge, louisiana, is fueling anger and protests this afternoon. In the cell phone video, purported to show the killing, you see two officers wrestle a man to the ground outside a Convenience Store before police fire the deadly shots. The man killed has been identified as alton sterling. He had been selling cds outside the Convenience Store. Police were called there tuesday after a caller said sterling threatened someone with a gun. Authorities today confirmed sterling was armed. However, the naacp wants the police chief to be fired or resign. The two officers involved are on leave. And sterlings family is calling for justice. As a mother, i have now been forced to raise a son who is going to remember what happened to his father. That i cant take away from him. Reporter jim, i can tell you the shooting began on the corner of darion with a war of words, a speeding driver who struck someone on this tight stretch of darion and victims friends and family. She said the speeding driver hit the brakes last night and emitted gunfire, sending her youngest of eight children to the hospital. He pulled the trigger. Reporter police say 13yearold Keion Griffin was struck in the left leg. Another bullet is still in his right arm. It happened after a female driver was yelled at for driving too fast. Somebody called them the b word, and you know, she came back with somebody, and he just like recklessly just shot the whole block up. Down through the block. And he was hit. The 14yearold girl was shot inside a home here on boyd street early this morning. A group of kids was playing with a gun when it went off. The girls in critical condition, but is expected to survive. Its not clear yet if any charges will be filed. A former Delaware County teacher could spend nearly two years in prison for sexually assaulting a girl on his team. Gregory was sentenced from 7 to 2 months in prison. He had a relationship with a former student he coached on his track team. She was 18 at the time. He was a physics teacher and track and field coach. He grew close to the alleged victim by helping her through a breakup with her boyfriend. New information now about a house fire that killed two children in wilmington back in january. Today investigators revealed a space heater is to blame for the fire on north monroe street. They said something flammable got too close to the heater and ignited. The flames quickly spread throughout the house. A 3yearold and a 3yearold both died of smoke inhalation and burns.
