The winner wont be crowned until sunday night. But one contestant is already making history as the first openly gay contestant since the pageant started nearly a century ago. She is being embraced by both the pageant and her fellow contestants. I am very proud. Reporter erin said all the attention shes getting at the mid America Pageant is personally overwhelming. Im happy to stand here as a representative for the Lgbt Community. So proud of what this represents for our community and breaking the feeling. Reporter oflaherty, miss missouri, 2016, is the first openly lesbian contestant in a National Pageants 95year history. I do recognize that i have a responsibility to for the lgbt to be visible in this capacity. Im just trying to take that on and understand that this is bigger than me. Every day i receive messages at the end of the day when i have a chance to look at my phone and theyre all just thanking me and encouraging me and being so supportive of me. Its going to be a good place to be the next few days, because its going to be mighty hot. Especially that hermine is going to be moving out. Its starting to lose its grip here. Tomorrow, 95, feeling like 102. Not quite as hot on friday. But then we could get even hotter on saturday, going up for 96 degrees for the predicted high. Right now we just happening to be predicting within one degree of record for all three days. Eight days of 90plus, in may and june. 16 days in july. 17 days in august. 41 days of 90plus. Last year we only had 36 for the whole season. And the record, 55, the latest 90 in phillys history, october the 7th. So were not necessarily done with the 90s even after this week. Theres harringtonton again, feeling like 105, parts of delaware really get the hottest out of this. But theres the hot weather on saturday. Really hot, really humid. But we get a break on sunday.
