So one part of the system moved 60 miles an hour, while another part moved at 40, and it was kind of lost its structure, that is what has happened just during the last hour, and just as it has come through our area. Now, theres more rain back to the west, this is the area were going to be watching down near roanoke. It could make it into southern delaware, in the next few hours, the actual cold front is back here in ohio, so when you get a front that far behind, the line of thunderstorms strange things can happen, and it did. Just as it got into the philadelphia area. And we could be seeing some more showers during the night tonight. But the strongest piece of wind energy has already moved through the area. And lets talk to crystal with more on that wind. Realistically, this happening is a good thing for everyone in our area. It means the damaging winds not quite as high of a threat as that line moved through. Which is good news for us across the region. Glenn pointed this out, were looking at gusts around 20 to 30 Miles Per Hour. Ive been checking storm reports and in maryland, just barely to our west, areas like queens anne maryland, were seeing gusts at 60 miles an hour and above. Because it kind of broke apart a bit as it made its way over us, we ended up with less concern. Future wind gusts are going to be strong as we go through the night and even into tomorrow. Remember the cold front has to make its way through. Gusts for us the rest of the afternoon, 30 to 40 Miles Per Hour, pretty consistent from across the board. From our shore to the furthest west points. As we go overnight, the winds will weaken a bit. They should pick back up tomorrow, on your thursday, expecting very windy conditions, gusts around 40 Miles Per Hour, thats at your noon hour. The winds are going to be a concern, the good news is, the worst has passed. A total of 22 tornados were reported across missouri, illinois, iowa, tennessee and indiana tuesday. One person was killed in missouri. At least two others are dead in illinois. This damage you see here is in illinois, at least one person was killed when a tornado touched down there. The weather is blamed for three deaths throughout the midwest this afternoon. Right there near toms river, we have lightning activity out there with it, it continues to move to the east and it is just about to move offshore. Its even going just north of Barnegat Light. As we take a look at the wider view, you can see the line, it was creating quite a bit of wind damage in maryland in the hours ahead of the time it came through here. And the front itself is still back to the west. So what happened is, we have southwest winds ahead of it, and we have northwest winds behind the front. When the winds come together. The air is forced to rise, and that helps create the thunderstorms. One of the ingredients in the Severe Weather. When the storms are that far out ahead of the cold front, you kind of lose that feature. And thats why the storms have weakened. Were near 70 degrees in much of the area. Peeks of sunshine in some places, its turned out to be a decent afternoon. At least temperaturewise. Its kind of windy out there. It will stay windy all night.
