Police raided an apartment looking for wanted suspect, it turned out they had the wrong address. Nbc 10s George Spencer talked to the tenant about this frightening experience. Were not just talking about cops showing up at the wrong house, officers broke down the door and slapped handcuffs on him . It was a frightening experience with Philadelphia Police acknowledging late this afternoon it was all sparked by address confusion. Officials say they did end up arresting a suspect nearby here this morning in this same case. But not before an innocent man was jolted awake, searched, and handcuffed. It was look. Reporter he tells us that banging woke him from his sleep. But before he could even get to his living room, police with guns drawn had already busted through his front door, pushing him into the corner and handcuffing him. So i was standing like this, and she was like, you know, put me in the cuffs. Reporter she had you in this corner. Had me here. Reporter in the handcuffs. It was astonish for the native of sierra leone with no legal trouble studying at west chester university. He knew immediately they had the wrong guy. Clean conscious, there is nothing i should be worried about. Reporter he said it took police ten minutes of searching every room and closet before they realized the same thing. Turns out, police had the wrong address for their wanted suspect. For you its sloppy work. It is. It is really. Reporter he says he holds no grudge and was not mistreated. He insists hes astonished by the lack of preparation and surveillance that would have Police Busting into the wrong home. He says that feels more like the country he left than the country he now calls home. You dont do things like that in america. Its okay for things like this to happen in other places. Not in america. At least fix the door. All right. Unexpected motive coming out today about threats made to some of the Jewish CommunityCenters Across the country. A jilted ex boyfriend now under arrest. A 31yearold Juan Thompson is the ex who was arrested. According to a complaint the threats were made to a former girlfriend, nbcs Pete Williams is telling us that thompson is considered a copy cat. No word if any of the Jccs Thompson targeted are in our areas. Some of new jerseys biggest names in politics joined forces to denounce antisemitism at a rally. Governor chris christie,b senators cory booker and bob menendez all stood together. We are here today, yes, as a response to hate. The rally was held at the Jewish Community center in the palisades which was the target of a bomb threat earlier this week. Dozens of volunteers were out again today cleaning up at mt. Carmel jewish cemetery. They are working to repair dozens of damaged headstones there. Today was the last day of volunteer work until the Jewish Federation of philadelphia comes up with a new plan of action. Damage was discovered last weekend. The fbi has opened an investigation. Authorities are hoping a fingerprint they found could lead to an arrest. President trump is in florida this morning promoting student voice. Other news now, this morning, bullets flew outside a bar in mount airy. Four people were hit, including a wbartender. Police have a description of the shooter and his car. We have more from the scene along germantown avenue. Reporter weve learned it was an argument that started inside the restaurant that began. You can see there is one bullet hole in the glass here. There is another bullet hole across the street. And police say eight shots were fired here on the sidewalk into a crowded area. Officers on scene say an argument inside spilled out to the sidewalk when the restaurant closed around 2 00 friday morning. Things turned violent when someone began shooting. Tloo three men and one women was shot. All four victims are being treated at einstein hospital. Police say theyre looking for a man in his late 20s to early 30s. Brown complexion and with dread locks. This morning, investigators say they are confident theyll find the person responsible. They are conducting interviews of the victims, theyre speaking to a number of witnesses. They also say there are a number of security cameras along this stretch of germantown avenue. Investigators are searching for the cause of a fire that gutted a vacant Jersey Shore Hotel and several homes nearby. It started at the now shuttered Warrington Hotel in ocean grove monmouth county. The winds spread those flames to a condo complex and several other buildings. Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries. No timeline for when crews will finish repairs on a sinkhole in kensington. Thats what the Philadelphia Water Department told nbc 10 today. For now, that sinkhole is covered with plywood to keep cars from driving over it. It opened up on east clearfield street yesterday, only nbc 10 was there as neighbors helped a driver after his car got stuck. The Water Department says this wasnt the result of a watermain break. They are working to figure out what caused the problem. Remembering two fallen officers. Tomorrow in kent county there will be a memorial mass for two off Duty Police Officers killed in a car crash weve told you about. They were killed in the crash on february 26th in camden. Cadet watts was laid to rest earlier today. Watts served for six months. Investigators say defont was driving when the car hit a sharp curve and hit a utility pole. The Memorial Service will be in dover. Senator bob casey reaffirmed his commitment to protecting planned parenthood funding during a visit to Delaware County today. He toured the upper derby center. Casey opposes a gop bill which would strip federal funding for planned parenthood. The democrat says the Organization ProvidesLife Saving Services for millions of american women. Chester county, thats where police have a sketch of a man wanted for a Home Invasion robbery in parksberg. Investigators say it happened on february 17th. Police say the man forced his way into a house after knocking on the door and asking for a drink. Thats when investigate rors sae tied up an elderly victim. The victim wasnt seriously hurt. Police are looking at Surveillance Video from the neighborhood. This is at least the second violent Home Invasion in Chester County in a month. A 72yearold woman was beaten up, tied up and locked up in a closet in east brandywine township last week. Police arrest aded a 17yearoln that case. Philadelphias finest are adding dozens of new recruits. Nbc 10 and Temple University for the Graduation Ceremony for the newest members of the Philadelphia Police department. The class includes nine Temple Police department recruits. And one for the philadelphia housing authority. The recruits completed eight months of training at the police academy. Happening now, philadelphia lawmakers making a big change in the citys juvenile justice system. The move will keep parents from having to pay for their children in juvenile detention. Nbc 10s mitch blocker is live at city hall where the Decision Just came down. Reporter within the last two hours here at city hall, the city council and members of the city council as well as the department of Human Services came to that decision. They say that it will promote family stability as well as keep fewer kids behind bars. Camellia spears son is 16. He was in juvenile detention for a school yard fight. He had never been in trouble before. Reporter like more than 700 parents of detained children, spears was asked to pay up to 1,000 a year to cover the citys costs. When we heard, you know, in conversation or anything about parents having to repay money. Reporter the city had paid a lawyer more than 300,000 a year in salary all to collect from parents like spears. By the end of the month, his position will be eliminated. Despite working more than 60 hours a week, most parents like spears, couldnt afford the bills. I thought it was ludicrous. Reporter this councilman hosts a hearing on the costs, fees and penalties. He says the amount of money the city cleollected from parents didnt justify going after it. We want to be supportive of children. Children make bonehead decisions. That doesnt mean they wont become something great. Reporter camilla spears said shes proud to share her story and relieved the cost of her sons mistakes wont affect her other children. That beats last years record of 34,504. The school typically enrolled 5,000 students in its freshman class. Competition is tough. The cameras here, youre right in the middle of that snowshower. Its amazing. Then we look toward the lower bucks, bensalem getting out of it. Bristol just had a brief heavy burst of snow.
