Reporter penn dot is getting ready for whatever is going to fall overnight, tonight ski resorts say they dont care what falls, they just need the extended cold. Fired up the guns this morning once it got cold again. Reporter by now they should have the 40s, theyve had one. We had a stretch over thanksgiving where we could make a bit of snow, had a stretch about ten days ago, but we havent had the sustained cold yet. Finally it looks like that may be coming at the end this week. Reporter so they are running the snow guns, the resort is optimistic a viable ski season is still out there. Camelback is also opened up the zip line and other mountain adventure activities to keep their guests at the water park from leaving. The bookings have stayed really strong through this holiday week. Theres a lot of pentup demand for skiing and snowboarding and snow tubing, obviously. Reporter no snow has taken its toll like kristen cox. First it was tornados, now the state is getting hit by a winter storm. Meanwhile, oklahoma and missouri are also under a winter storm watch and they are dealing with flooding. That after several tornados sliced through texas this weekend, killing at least 11 people, including a baby. Dozens of people were hurt when a twister with winds up to 165 Miles Per Hour swept through the city of roland. Damage stretches over 40milelong area south of dallas. Closer to home, to new information in the landmark case of monsignor william lynn. His conviction was overturned a second time last week, now philadelphias District Attorney wants to reargue the case. Jacqueline london is following the developments. Whats the latest . Keith, philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams held a News Conference this afternoon announcing hes not giving up on the case without a fight. Today his office filed an application for a reargument of monsignor lynns case before the pennsylvania superior court. Back in 2012, lynn became the first Church Official nationwide to be convicted of covering up sexual abuse by members of the clergy. Hes now served more than three years of his three to sixyear prison term. Last week his conviction was overturned by a panel awarding him a new trial. My office is committed to ensuring the safety of all the citizens of philadelphia, and today specifically the victim of monsignor william lynn. Simply put, we will continue to use all of my offices resources to ensure that the defendant lynn remains in state custody. Lynns Attorney Says he is not surprised by the d. To new information now about the discovery of two bodies in berks county. Police are calling it a murdersuicide. A relative found the 35yearold woman and 58yearold mans bodies at a home in mount penn today. Authorities tell us the man and woman were together, but not married. Governor tom wolf hasnt said if hell sign the spending deal left for him by the state house and senate. It was later returned. Because of that, baby jesus was secured with a cable. This time, though, it was cut. The church wants the statue returned, no questions asked. According to the archdiocese, at least four other statue thefts have been reported. A man is dead after he was hit by a car while crossing roosevelt boulevard this morning. Happened around 5 30 in philadelphias Oxford Circle neighborhood. The driver did stop and likely wont face any charges. Police say the victim was crossing against a red light. Investigators still dont know what started this house fire in Montgomery County this morning. Sky force 10 was over spring hill avenue before 8 00. Crews quickly brought the fire under control. Everyone inside the home got out safely. Luckily, no one was hurt here. From one fire to another, a popular delaware bakery damaged in a Christmas Eve fire wont reopen for months. Today the delaware fire marshals working to determine what started the fire at serpys bakery, the family has been in business since the early 1950s. They tell nbc 10 they plan to reopen, but say a large portion of the building will have to be torn down and rebuilt. You remember these images, sky force 10 over that scene just after closing on Christmas Eve. The family tells us they are devastated by the fire, but appreciative of all the support from their friends and customers. Something completely different, today marks 15 years since the biggest mass murder in philadelphia history. On december 28th, 2000, ten people were lined up and shot in a crack house on lex street in west philadelphia. One victim was just 15 years old. Seven of them died. The massacre was the result of a fight over a car. It took years for the killers to get caught. Four men convicted are now in prison. Happening now, people are gathering for a rally to honor a south jersey man killed by police during a traffic stop. Reach for something, youre going to be [ bleep ] dead. Last December Reed was shot by Bridgeton Police officers when he got out of the car after being told not to move. It happened after Police Spotted a gun in the car during a traffic stop. The shooting sparked protests but the officers werent indicted. Tonights vigil is on south avenue and henry streets. Three parks in upper darby will get spruced up thanks to a 10,000 grant. All in southeast part of the township will share the funds. Improvements could include new pathways, benches, and lighting. The parks may also see new gaze gazebos. The money came from peco to conserve open space. Students in high school are taking part in a basketball tournament. The 14th annual james g. Atkinson memorial basketball classic kicked off today at Rowan College in Gloucester County. Its a tradition that honors the legacy of the former Gloucester County free holder and allows students to show off athletic skills. All the money raised goes to scholarships to students who go to college. What we like about this tournament is it gives us a chance to have local students on our campus and for the folks that come, support our tournament and the money goes back to a great scholarship fund. Officials in Southern California have new worries now after a wildfire on friday. They fear a heavy rain could trigger landslides now that more than 1,200 acres have been left charred. Weve got snow and sleet coming for some. One of the weird things is, we havent had any in any part of the area, really, so far this season. Were tracking some heavy rain, looks like its going to affect the morning rush and a cold new year out there. We have cloudy skies now, visibility is fine. We have a few sprinkles in parts of the area. 43 degrees now, the wind is east at 15 miles an hour, and it feels like its in the 30s. Weve got the wind chills back. Temperature itself is still 40 degrees at allentown, pottstown, westchester, trenton has a long way to go to get down to 32 and probably lower than that because the roads have been warm because the air has been so warm. Mount pocono 30 degrees, and 41 in mount holly and glassboro, 43 degrees in millville. Some of these places, all these places were in the 60s yesterday, thats why were 20 to 25 degrees colder than at this time yesterday. And now that were cold enough, this is live, and they are making snow at camel back. All of this turns white, now that the conditions are going to be getting a little bit better. Going to get a bit of rain, but as we head toward the weekend, youre going to be in good shape and maybe for quite a while. We have Winter Weather advisories for the poconos. Berks county is going to be marginal for any kind of significant threat because even though theres likely to be sleet here, its going to be hard to get the temperature down actually to the freezing, below the freezing mark. We have to keep an eye on it, because that pink is sleet. And if the temperatures gets down low enough, youve got an issue. Thats mostly toward midnight, because its going to warm up towards day break. Another area of heavy rain back to the west. Lets see what happens hour by hour, the temperatures obviously go down into the 30s. In allentown, doylestown, and then maybe even near the freezing point. Fairly close call for allentown, but again, the warm roads might help things. Meanwhile, not even a close call in philadelphia and points to the south, way above the freezing mark and our issue is the heavy rain thats going to be coming in. Look at this, 4 00 a. M. , 5 00 a. M. , temperature keeps going up. Here comes more heavy rain right in the middle of the rush, but temperatures are now in the 50s and plenty warm in the lehigh co valley. Look at that, 68 degrees in dover. So were going to see that is a 24degree temperature contrast across the area at the same exact time tomorrow. So what do we see for the rest of the night . Rain develops, little bit of a wintery mix farther to the north, generally north of i78, temperatures rise 48 in philly and rise to 35 north and west by day break. Heavy rain in the morning, then kind of warm in the afternoon, theres the temperature contrast, 50 to the north, 70 to the south for the high temperatures. And the sevenday forecast, fairly mild day on wednesday, with some rain coming in late in the day, wednesday night is wet, dries out on thursday just in time for new years eve, then it is cold.
