Begin with the Weather Threat bearing down on area right now. Were tracking storms on top of this searing heat. Lets go right to meteorologist sheena par convenient. Yeah, jim, the heat is fueling the storms. Looking mostly north of philadelphia right now. Weve been dealing with severe thunderstorms this afternoon. Mostly through the Lehigh Valley and now heading towards Mercer County. There is a back edge to some of this, and theres also another line setting up to move n. Allentown finally getting more of a break and we still have a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of Northampton County until 5 30. Expect winds near 60 miles an hour and with this lightning very heavy rain, rainfall around about 2 1 2 inches per hour and were looking at hail. Upper richland township seeing very heavy rain and Severe Thunderstorm Warning moving into Mercer County and trenton seeing that heavy rain across 15 to 95 and 195. All the major interstates in Mercer County dealing with very heavy rain and take a look at some of the hail. Weve seen baseballsized hail and radar indicated and estimated and right near parts of Northampton County and seen indications of hail in a line of thunderstorms thats moving towards Mercer County, so we have, again, two areas of Severe Weather were dealing with mostly in parts of new jersey, Mercer County and the lehigh and parts of upper bucks county as well so you want to take shelter. Everyone is under severe thunderstorm watch for next act reason. We could still be seeing severe storms until about 8 00 or 10 00 tonight. Again, well take a look at the timing of that. That will keep tracking these storms for you coming up, and were also talking about dangerous heat. Krystal klei is standing by live with that. Temperatures unbearable outside and mixing up the humidity were dealing with thanks to the storms coming through. A liev look outside. You see a gorgeous shot here, but it is hot and the clouds have rolled in and as a result, not only are we tracking the storms but still tracking temperatures on the high skied. A look at the feels dark like temperatures. 104 is what it feels like outside in philadelphia right now and thats actually better than an hour ago when it felt like 108. What were dealing is raincooled air shifting in. Allentown, 73 degrees is what it feels like there. Areas like vineland as well as Atlantic City still above 100. Wilmington 107 and dover 114 degrees is what it feels like outside. Lets talk records here. Philadelphia has already tied a record for heat. 96 is the high that weve seen so far tying a previous record. Allentown the same at 95 degrees and Atlantic City close but not quite there. 94 the high weve seen so far and wilmington just 1 degree short and mt. Pocono at 87, the high that we saw. That temperature has likely since dropped and, again, official reports later to see if we broke any records. That heat though has been taking over and will continue tomorrow. Dnc second and Baltimore Mayor stephanie rawlingsblake called this convention to order. She took over for the dnc chairperson Debbie Wasserman schultz who is not taking part in this dnc and Bernie Sanders also rallied his supporters today. He told them to vote for Hillary Clinton and continued the revolution they began. This caused the crowd to erupt in boos. Sanders set to address the delegates tonight right after First Lady Michelle Obama takes to the podium. Want to bring in nbc 10s lauren mayk who is live with me here at a very noisy Wells Fargo Center down on the floor with all the delegates. Lauren, the latest controversy left the Democratic Party at clear crossroads right now. Reporter yeah, jim. This party is having a Historic Convention about to nominate the first woman for president , but ill tell you one delegate just said to me party unity is a tough thing right now, and as we stand here in this hall you can hear different cheers at different times from different groups. They are not at this point in unison. Some are cheering for Hillary Clinton and some are cheering for Bernie Sanders when his name is mentioned and when tim kaines name is mentioned you hear both cheers and boos. Just a few minutes ago i found something that happened at conventions, a Hillary Clinton supporter sitting very, very close to a Bernie Sanders supporter. Heres our conversation. Throughout the primary you have been going to events separately supporting individual candidates and youre sitting close to each other at this convention. How does it feel . It feels exciting, and i think tonight after we hear senator sanders, i think well understand that the platform is more unified than divided and when we leave here well be do everything humanly possible to make sure hillary gets into the white house. Is that something you feel ready for at this point . Ill be honest, im not ready. Bernie gave us a nice talk this afternoon. We had a meeting with just person and the delegates. Im not ready to give up on bernie yet, and when you say a longtime follower of bernie reporter she says shes not ready to give up on him yet and knows that it is a long shot, and, jim, we are feeling some dissension in this room. Representative marcia fudge was just up on stage a few moments ago and had to sort of stop her speech and ask people to be respectful saying she would be respectful of them because she was being interrupted during her speech. Well be watching to see how this develops during the rest of the week. Feeling that divide. Lauren mayk down on the convention floor. Bernie sanders did meet with hill delegates and supporters today at the Pennsylvania Convention center here in philadelphia, and he stressed that his Political Revolution will continue. Make no mistake about it. We have made history sanders applauded the dnc for adopting its most aggressive platform ever. He urged his backers to vote for Hillary Clinton and tim kaine, and he stressed that donald trump must be stopped for the good of the country. Meantime, nbc 10s tim furlong has been track sanders protests and delegates all day long. Hes live at city hall for us. Whats the situation where you r. Looks pretty quiet right now, tim. Reporter its finally calming down a little bit. Pretty hot and tense here all day long. Hundreds and hundreds of people were here and they gathered. A lot of people from a lot of different groups, as a matter of fact, and theres still a few protesters here, but if you were with us live at 4 00, you saw us walking along with the Massive Group as they began their march down broad street to fdr park. Hell, no, dnc, we wont vote for hillary. Reporter many saying they are no longer democrats. I would rather that donald trump in office than Hillary Clinton. Reporter but thats wrlt Democratic Party is right now when they are supposed to be here in philly coming together behind their candidate, but the release of emails showing top dnc officials backing clinton from the getgo not sitting well with sanders supporters. This is disgusting to me. This is what democracy looks like reporter some sanders supporters tell me they wont back clinton even if Bernie Sanders tells them they should. They dont like her policies. They dont like this dnc email mess and dont like tim kaine, clintons choice for president. They say she could have won over sanders supporters with a progressive running mate but chose a centrist. If thats reaching out its with political thumbs put in the eyes of Bernie Sanders supporters. What happens in november is i either write persony in or i write myself in. The closures. Theres 95 north and southbound ramps to broad street and the schuylkill expressway eastbound ramp to packer avenue. Thats hover in this general area. Those ramps are closed, but thats okay because the highways are still open. The problem, some of the bigger problems are the Police Checkpoints. Now, theres one at 95 northbound right around the Philadelphia International airport and over into this general area. Can you see the string of red approaching the northbound area. Anything pretty much moving into sex and the city or the southbound south philly area around the Wells Fargo Center is where we earring seeing delays. Another Police Checkpoint is 95 southbound around girard avenue. A little bit of red there again and this is what the checkpoints pretty much look like. The vine street expressway right around third street so you can see they have cars single file and they will stop any vehicle in the area over five tons. Jessica, thanks for that update. The last of three funerals was heldco today for the Police Officers killed in an ambush. Hundreds of people packed a service forni montrell jackson. The tenyear veteran leaves behind a wife and infant son. Members ofni jacksons squad comforted his widow promising to always be there for her. Jackson and two other officers were shot and killed back on july 17thnr targeted by police. Well, were still tracking strong and severe thunderstorms across the area. Severe thunderstorm warning has been extended through parts of bucks county so were looking at upper bucks county and central parts of bucks county and through the center of the Lehigh Valley more storms approaching there and most of the snow storm activity in parts of Mercer County. Severe thunderstorm warning here until 5 30 but that has been extended the farther south you go and that will all be moving into parts of new jersey very soon, too, and what were dealing with right now is a lot of lightning and very heavy rain and potential hail. Lightning strikes about 117 just in this area in the past 15 minutes and very heavy rain. We could be seeing this leading to localized street and creek flooding possibly and also winds could be near 60 miles an hour. Those are damaging winds. Through west windsor. Everything moving out of mercy county across 95 and looking at areas in Lower Bucks County and across 295 towards trenton. Heavier rain here, too, but the most severe of this is in parts of central and bucks county. Hailsized. Right near golf balance sized in areas close to buckingham and Newtown Grant getting some of that hail, too. Very severe thunderstorm. Hail, heavy wind, lightning and damaging winds. Near dublin, golfball sized hail and milford looking at walnutsized hail so these thunderstorms are capable of producing hail. What we saw earlier in Northampton County was baseballsized hail, what the radar estimated and the good news for Hampton County is they are pretty much in the clear, and i think that will be changing here pretty soon. Severe thunderstorm watches out for the entire area. Some parts of our area philadelphia and points north until 8 00 p. M. Southgersy in delaware until about 10 00 tonight. Were also watching another line of showers and storms, severe storms just outside of the poconos in the Lehigh Valley and making their way into the poker knows. If youre in lehigh expect by 531 and allentown 605 and easton 6 24. Another severe line of storms that will be moving once again into the Lehigh Valley right over the same areas that saw the storms just about an hour ago so we could be looking at localized flooding and the severe storms mean the potential for wind damage. Were also dealing with the dangerous heat. This is helping to fuel the storms. For the Lehigh Valley weve seen temperatures dropping because of the rain and same thing in trenton and rest of the area feeling like anywhere from 101 to 114 degrees, especially if youre in dover. Its still very hot and very humid. Heres a look at future weather. By 6 30 this evening. I think well still be seeing scattered showers and storms and potentially severe storms and even by 8 30. The threat is still going to exist, especially if youre south of philadelphia, and then by tomorrow well seeing things clear up. Another sunny hot day.
