Pretty much standing room only as crowds came together to witness the Solar Eclipse along the ben franklin parkway. Some skipped work. Others celebrated their birthdays. I have never seen a Solar Eclipse before. It was really cool, like, to see it be covered and just like see all the space of it. And then when it was when the moon was like moving again, it was so cool to see it like just it was just really cool. I dont know. I loved it. Inside the fels planetarium, thousands enjoyed a front row seat with nasas live stream. Seems like everyone stopped what they were doing to watch the eclipse today, even the staff at the white house. Vice president mike pence, attorney general sessions and ivanka trump could be seen checking out the suspect kl in the sky. Here at home, we werent in the path of totality. No. But we got a pretty good spectacle. Meteorologi meteorologistkrystal klye explains what crossed the path. Reporter im here at Westchester University and people were here looking at a viewing party and everyone still seemed happy and some disappointed it wasnt completely dark. Look at the ground. What you see on the shadow is very dark shadow and along the edge, say holding out a piece of paper, it is fuzzier along the edge. The last hitting what w a total eclipse around 2 40. Everything wrapped up right around 4 00 p. M. Today, even for us here. Now, lets jump to the next graphic and going to explain for you guys what you are seeing here. For a total eclipse, you need a couple of things. First thing, thats the sun, the moon and the earth to all line up perfectly and takes quite sometime to happen. On top of that, you need something thats amazing. The moon is 400 times smaller than the sun and 400 times closer than the sun than the earth is and thats why that very small area the path of totality. Thats the part of the shadow thats the umbra. For us, were in the penumbra. Today we saw 75 of the sun obscured by the moon. Still pretty impressive. I have so ai really enjoyed it. Theres a slight chance tonight and a lot bigger chance tomorrow night and most of the time in between is going to be dry by really, really humid and getting pretty hot tomorrow, too. Wilmington, we did have some clouds around. A couple of hours ago. Seems to have quieted down and more sunshine. Same thing with the beaches. And this is at avalon. Little sun, even an hour ago. And we kept the clouds away for most of the area. For the eclipse. That would be pretty frustrating to have the clouds block you. Well, got a couple of showers near harrisburg. Trying to get eastward and not making a lot of progress. Theres one big cluster of storms now over chesapeake bay. It was near baltimore and nearly stationary and then thats moving to the southeast and they may not even get into delaware but its really messing up maryland. The storms are stationary and causing flooding there. We have a couple of issues for tomorrow. First thing, first alert, for the heat and humidity combination, from philadelphia southward, does not include the beaches because its a sea breeze tomorrow. Thats from 2 00 to 6 00 p. M. Temperatures into the mid90s. The feels like temperature when you add that high humidity, 100 to 105. Northern portions of our area, theyre closer to the severe thunderstorms that are likely to hit central and western pennsylvania late tomorrow. Thats why i have the first alert out there from 8 00 p. M. Tuesday to 2 00 a. M. Wednesday. So thats later in the night, of course. And the later you go at night, the more likely to weaken. Budajing winds still possible especially north and west. The decision coming after a weekend huddle with top advisers and what his team called a rigorous review. That would be tomorrow night. During the day tomorrow, its just going to see the heat and humidity build up. Remember, today, the temperature was blocked for a couple of hours by that eclipse so the temperature actually went down when it normally goes up during the day. So, tomorrow, with the extreme heat, and the humidity, this is from philadelphia southward. Except for the beaches. Which will see a sea breeze. 2 00 to 6 00 p. M. Temperatures in the mid90s. The high humidity makes it feel like 100 to 105. We have another first alert for different part of the area, these are for pennsylvania counties and this is 8 00 p. M. Tuesday to 2 00 a. M. Wednesday. By the time the line of thunderstorms gets into south jersey and delaware, it may have weakened so much that its not severe. So damaging winds possible. A lot of lightning and some small hail. Right now, temperatures are in the mid80s. We have a little more sunshine, philadelphia now than we did an hour ago. A lot of sun in the Lehigh Valley that we have seen in the day today. And that is helped push the temperatures up. And Lehigh Valley to get to 90 or a little bit above tomorrow and not into the Dangerous Levels. Warnerville 79. White hall 85. Bethlehem 84, as well as easton. Like i said, all the places are going to be close to 90 or maybe a little bit above tomorrow. Feels like temperatures 91 in wilmington. 90 in vineland. 87 in philadelphia. So were certainly nowhere near the Dangerous Levels today. Tomorrow, it is a different story. Look at these feels like temperatures. 2 00, 4 00, getting close to 100. Maybe in between it could hit the triple dpiigits there. Not as high. Thats why i dont have the first alert out for those counties. This is what we do with neighborhood weather. We break it down into the different areas of different impanlgts. Delaware, feels like temperature getting to 100 for several hours tomorrow. Parts of south jersey getting near 100, as well. But the jersey shore, not getting there. Not in that first alert. We have a couple of showers trying to get into berks county and near the poconos and that is weakening already. Not moving very fast. We have more activity become out to the west. In ohio and even across the middle of the country. And thats associated with a cold front thats coming in. These are the showers for this evening. Just kind of isolated. And not necessarily severe. But watch what happens during the day tomorrow. We start off with a sunshine, the heat, humidity builds. Plus we have a cold front coming through. So, that could be some pretty strong thunderstorms and that is later at night. So most of the daytime hours we are talking about dry weather. And then, we really dry out. The judge was shot this morning in the town of stubenville. You may remember the story, it made National Headlines when two High School Football players convicted of raping a girl during a party. The gunmans son served ten months in juvenile prison. The gunman was eventually shot and killed by a probation officer. In pennsylvania, 30yearold bald eagle being treated for lead poisoning has died. Less than two weeks after two others died out same cause and captured last weekend after allowing people to get unusually close.
