Im shot, im shot a terrifying call about shots fired. We now know what led up to officer Christopher Dorman shot zem zem seven times. A scuffle ensued, and the defendant callously drew his weapon and fired at officer dorman. Reporter Delaware CountyDistrict Attorney says dorman was able to run away from the gunfire. Two other folcroft officers showed up to help. Police say the shooter is dante Brooks Island known as abdu abdul wahi who just served 15 years behind bars. We also learned the defendant is a career criminal, a drug dealer. Reporter police say dorman saw island selling drugs behind an Apartment Building at 10 00 in the morning. Dorman shot in the confrontation. Swat and fbi moved to get the shooter forcing neighbors from their homes. They left with three other people in custody. Island is the only one charged at this time. I want to say island will be charged aarraigned tonight. Police are investigating the weapon believed to be used in the shooting. Brendon hudson, nbc 10 news. Officer dorman was flown to penn presbyterian medical center, went into surgery there, and nbc 10 has been outside the hospital all afternoon. Whats the latest on his condition right now . Reporter hes critical, but hes stable after having a second surgery. The police chief says it was a dream job for officer dorman to be a Police Officer and hes been volunteering in Service Since he was 16 years old. No lengths he wont go to to protect the community, and i hope the best for he and his family, thoughts and prayers go out. This is, wow. Tears us up, you know. This is hitting home. Reporter seeing the officer on patrol this morning, just a little while before dorman was shot. I was told by the doctors that thank god he had his vest on. Sources say he was fired on multiple times, three gunshot wounds, and hit by other bullets. One shot his his badge, the force knocking it from the uniform. Stabilized in a Delaware County hospital, he was flown to penn presbyterian. Nearly 100 officers gathered here today as many more hunted for his suspected shooter. Really, really good kid, i mean, couldnt ask for anybody better in the community to serve as a Police Officer. Really, you know, i mean, my heart goes out to those who serve to protect the community, and this is a shock. Reporter now, were told that his parents have been with him since he arrived at the hospital and they were relieved with news that the suspected shooter was caught. The nbc 10 investigators dug into dantes past, this is what they found. Court rortecords show he was tod supervised parole tomorrow. Islands parole officer raised red flags about that. Island it not contacted his parole officer since july of last year. He had missed several scheduled drug tests. The original charge was possession of a gun by a convicted felon. Now, were still going through the court records. More information on this coming up tonight at 11 00. In the meantime, it was a tense situation for neighbors in folcroft today. It was for everybody here including media. We were here with neighbors early as swat rolled up on the building, the center of the action. Everyone was pushed back, everyone was evacuated or then told to go inside and stay inside their homes. We went with a guy inviting us up to the apartment in this building. We watched it unfold from up there, and, yeah, it was tense. I was in the backyard with my dad and brother, and there were six gunshots. Oh, my god, he shot a cop, next thing you know, tons of cops coming. Reporter officers, chopper overhead, machine guns everywhere, we we watched as residents ran out, hands up for the swat team to see, and certainly scary for everyone around here. Reporter once the suspects were taken into swat teams, they left the tape, coming down, and officer dorman, folks here know the faces of the officers on their towns force. I have a son that age, you know, and my heart goes out to the family. It does. My family has respect for cops, and right now, they hope the cop that was shot is okay. Someone called in about drug activity last night on the road, officers found a woman in distress, took her to the hospital, and k9 mavericks sniffed out 37 bags of heroin in the vehicle, and they arrested a guy name anthony.
