This is approaching upper mon Montgomery County where we have lightning strikes developing, upper bucks county and Chester County. It will be approaching the philadelphia area in about an hour here, but again, be careful, because we do expect strong wind gusts with these storms, too. As this moves mostly to the eastsoutheast around 35 Miles Per Hour, west chester can expect it by 11 20. Wilmington expecting the strongest by 11 38, and philadelphia closer to noon today. And as we go through the next few hours here, were going to see conditions deteriorate in the philadelphia area. Right now, at 70 in philadelphia. 1 00, expect showers and storms to continue, mid 60s. By 4 00, well be seeing clearing from this with highs topping out around 70 degrees today. A cool, windy day with showers and storms in the forecast. Mostly the mifl of the day. Well take a closer lock at the radar and what the rest of the area can expect coming up. Happening today, Philadelphia City council could vote on the soda tax this afternoon. Mayor kennys plan calls for a 3 cent ounce tax to all sugary beverages in philadelphia. There are enough votes to pass the soda tax, but that doesnt mean the mayors proposal would go through. In the past hour, hundreds of Business Owners and merchants gathered to oppose the tax. Sky force 10 was over the scene where a new bipartisan antitax coalition made its public debut. Citizens against regressive taxation are focused on defeating the sugary drinks tax and container tax. The money generated would fund a universal prek program across the city. Opponents say the tax would hurt businesses and consumers and this isnt a way to go about getting the money. They want all these things. But they dont know how to pay for them, so they want to come after your pocketbook, and they want to come after your wallet. When is enough enough . We have to stop this regressive sales tax and every other tax that wants to come out in that building. City council is scheduled to meet at 2 00 this afternoon. The car hit a home near gafrbs road. Officials say everyone will be okay and there was minor damage to the home. We dont have word on what caused the accident. And police in norristown are looking for your help as they investigate a shooting death at a mcdonalds drivethrough. This happened before midnight on west main street. A witness told us two men were chasing a 24yearold man and shot him about ten times. He died at the scene. Police havent said anything about a possible motive for the shooting but are asking anyone with information to contact them. And this morning, two philadelphia firefighters were hurt while battling a fire in cobbs creek overnight. They have been released from the hospital. The fire damaged an abandoned barbershop. No one else was hurt. It looks like it will be donald trump versus Hillary Clinton this fall. Clinton won california early this morning, giving her more than enough delegates to secure the democratic nomination. Where does that leave Bernie Sanders and his millions of fired up supporters . This particular thunderstorm has gotten Strong Enough to provide damaging winds, near 60 Miles Per Hour. Potentially some small hail, and you see the heavy rain show by the red here, and also a lot of lightning. This goes until 11 45. Its right now over parts of parks brg and moving into Chester County, coatsville seeing the heavy rain, too, over highland, seeing the worst of it at the moment. Thats heavy rain shown by the red. Damaging winds and potential for small hail. Were going to keep tracking this as we go through the next 30 minutes to hour. Its going to continue to move into Chester County. All these areas shaded in yellow, west chester, concord, edge mont, all these areas expected to see possibly some damaging winds, including wilmington across the i95 corridor as we go into the next 30 to 45 minutes. We have been saying all morning long the storms are going to be moving into the philadelphia area around lunch time, and theyre still on schedule for that. Congressman chaka fattah is back in a federal court room this morning as his corruption trial continues. Yesterday, his former chief of staff in washington, d. C. Was on the stand. She said it looked bad that the fattahs allegedly kept a porsche in their garage two years after it was sold to a co hft defendant in the case. The codefendant is accused of bribing the congressman to get a federal appointment. She also testified that fattahs daughter was a paid fundraiser for his campaign and she got a 10,000 bonus for her role. A ride turns tragic for a group of cyclists. Two People Killed and more than 20 others injured when two speed boats packed with tourists collided off the coast of southern thailand. The crash happened near phuket. Most of the passengers were chinese tourists. A driver in new york city is under arrest after this wild ride that looked like it could have come straight out of a movie. It started as a traffic stop when the driver made an illegal turn. The silver suv refused to stop. It hit a patrol car. The officers pulled their guns and demanded the driver get out. Instead, the driver takes off again, hitting more cars along the way. He was eventually arrested after ditching the car. Five bicyclists are dead and four more hurt after they were hit by a pickup truck in kalamazoo, michigan. The driver was found a short distance away and taken into police custody. Cyclists run off the road, and this morning investigators in western michigan are trying to piece together what led to this deadly crash near kalamazoo. I have never seen anything like this in my life. One witness says this blue pickup truck swerved into the group before he could warn them. Thats when i seen a bunch of bikes in front of his truck. Nine cyclists hit, five killed, the other four rushed to the hospital. Police say callered had reported the pickup Truck Driving erratically. After the crash, police say the driver fled on foot but was later arrested. A neighbor says she first thought the truck had hit a tree. Front of the truck is completely demolished. I figured it was the truck. Police say the 50yearold driver is in custody but has not yet by charged. Looks like hes greeting lawmakers right now. A group of Senate Democrats gathered this morning to push for more funding to combat the zika virus. The centers for Disease Control and prevention says there have been more than 1700 cases so far in the u. S. Last month, the Senate Passed 1. 1 billion in emergency funds to help stop the threat of zika. They say the time to act on zika was yesterday. For nearly 350 expecting mothers, being monitored for possible zika infections. And tragically, every day that we do not act, these numbers get worse. Senate leaders say the house has only passed a bill for 622 million, about half of what they requested to fight zika. The two sides have yet to come together to hammer out a deal. If youre heading to the beach down south this summer, this next story might gross you out a little bit. Baby jellyfish are causing all kinds of problems for swimmers and surfers in the water, in the waum waters in the gulf of mexico. Theyre larvae of jellyfish who get trapped between skin. They could cause a serious rash. Basically like little thousands of little miniature bee stings that cause the irritation. Experts say once you return from the beach, its best to take off the bathing suit and rinse off with hot water. Luckily, the junior jellies arent really dangerous, theyre just painful. Now approaching the philadelphia area, so if we look across parts of our pennsylvania suburbs into the Lehigh Valley, theres a lot of lightning with this. All these lightning strikes here we have seen in the thunderstorms moving across milford, reading, pottstown, parts of king of prussia, and across 476 right here on the edge, the leading edge of this, one near abington across the p. A. Turnpike, norristown, phoenixville seeing a lightning strike. A lot developing now and its going to continue to develop over the next hour or so. We still have a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Chester County, extending through parts of Delaware County until 11 45. King of prussia just on the edge of that. Coatesville getting out of some of the heaviest rain, but locked into the area of heavy rain and high winds. With any severe thunderstorm, we expect 60mileperhour winds, lightning, heavy rain, and potential hail. Thats why these things can be very dangerous. Now, as we track this moving to the east 35 Miles Per Hour, if youre in east goshen township, expect it 11 26, upper darby, 11 51, and philadelphia, right around 12 00. So we still expect these storms to be moving into philadelphia, the strongest part of them, right at lunch time, at 12 00 p. M. Well keep tracking these for you. Again, still watching a lot of this developing, and getting stronger, and thats what we expect to continue to move through parts of new jersey and into delaware. For today, by 2 00 p. M. , philadelphia area may still be seeing showers and storms, but then clearing by the evening commute tonight. And well be staying dry after that.
