There are plenty of traffic changes happening overnight now that pope francis has left philadelphia and i am happy to report that he has landed in rome safely. We do want to check traffic with first alert traffic reporter Jessica Boyington. The news getting better. As we continue on after the weekend of festivities we have a lot of changes going on. Major highways that were all closed for the weekend including the ben franklin bridge have reopened. Right now the ben franklin bridge is open, for all of the roads leading up to it, all of the access open as well from new jersey. The schuylkill expressway is open, 95 is open, all of the exits are open. And the vine street expressway is open east and westbound but all of the exit ramps are blocked off. Ill have more when i come back on mass transit and the rest of the cleanup coming up. A foggy forecast, good morning, brittney. Good morning. Patchy fog this morning for philadelphia and parts of south jersey. Into the afternoon well see our clouds increasing as well so a look at current temperatures throughout the region at 59 degrees in the poconos, 64 in allentown, 63 in pottstown, 66 in philadelphia. Our city planner shows the patchy fog will stick around into the late morning hours. Temperatures stay in the mid60s, by 6 00 a. M. , 9 00, 67, and noon 77. Todays highs closer to 80. So were going above average. So cloudy and stray showers, thats what were calling it today. Clouds increasing and stray showers from the west. Our rains today between 78 and 81, warmer than yesterday. Wind sheds out of the east at 10 miles per hour. Im tracking a rainy week ahead. Check out this scene along the ben franklin parkway, this is last night as the areas became the focal point of the papal visit. Its undergoing another transformation cleanup. The crews are working around the clock to get the city ready for the monday morning commute. And get things back to normal. Matt delucia is live along the parkway for us this morning. Matt, youve been watching the crews in action. What can you tell us . Reporter was packed with people watching the papal mass. You can see some of the fences that are lined up here, all of the work that has to be done to take all of these down. Look at some video we shot in the past couple of hours where you can see all of the water that is still left, all the Water Bottles donated by wawa out here. 2. 5 million bottles and you see there are a lot left. Also a lot of the cleanup that has been under way in the past several hours since the pope left town. You can see just the work crews working feverishly to get everything down so these roads can reopen. Still closed to traffic, we see a lot of golf carts making their way through. Lets come out live. You can see how it looked, all that water that was left over. Its almost above my head. Bottles after bottles out here. One of the Police Officers told one of the workers just take a case. There is so much water. Take a case and get out of here. Interesting to see what happens to all of this water once the crews come in and clean all of this up. Im going to make my way through here. Its an Obstacle Course here. You can see the jumbotrons, so a lot of the work of the sets and everything that has been put out here over the past weeks, still out here that the hour. A lot of that work is going to continue for several days im told because its a lot of man power, a lot of work left over to get all of this down. As far as the trash is concerned, a lot of that has been picked up. You see some of these garbage cans still out here. But the work has been going on to try to clean everything up, word is im told trying to get everything open by noon. I dont know how accurate that is going to be, if that is reality, but were going to see what happens. We saw the bridge open earlier than expected. 76 opened earlier than expected. So right now it seems everything is working ahead of schedule. They are going to try to move up the parkway in the next half hour, to try to show you a little bit more about whats going on down the rest of the ben franklin parkway. The office of Emergency Management tweeted out this picture last night. And mayor Michael Nutter you can see in the picture thanked the crews for their hard work. The images of pope francis traveling down the parkway, his motorcade slowing so he could wave to the crowd before mass and stop and greet the crowd, they are part of philadelphia history. The philadelphia orchestra played and the choir sang as pope francis arrived yesterday afternoon. He made his way to the altar. His homily focused on the importance of family. In my own home do we shout or do we speak to each other in love and tenderness . Thats a good way of measuring our love. How beautiful it would be if everywhere and even beyond our own borders we could appreciate the courage, this profession see and this miracle. Again, before the mass the pope greeted an adoring crowd along the parkway, he took his time, stopping to bless and kiss several babies and children along the way. At 4 38 on monday morning, hope and forgiveness, thats what pope francis was talking about yesterday when he spoke to philadelphia prisoners. Well have details on that part of his visit coming up. Early estimates say about 800,000 people joined the pope for mass along the parkway. Ahead wait until you hear the the crowd that showed up for one location where the pope never visited. The schuylkill expressway is open. City avenue opened last night. 95 is all open but still reports that the exit from callowhill is blocked off. Ben franklin bridge is open. The vine street expressway is open but certain ramps from center city do not provide access. Ill show you what i mean. These are cameras of the schuylkill around the vine street expressway. To access here you cannot do that from the schuylkill expressway. We still have those ramps blocked off. For that traffic box with the papal street closures, no real word when the traffic box will be lifted. Its more of as a cleanup as it comes kind of thing. 3 00 a. M. This morning the city provided taxi stands around and outside of the box to provide transportation for people inside. The parking restrictions remain until the areas are cleared at some point today. Pay attention to signs. Good morning. Temperatures today starting off in the mid60s, as we head into the rest of the afternoon well see warmer conditions today than what we saw yesterday. Yesterday we stayed below average. A closer look at our current at 62 degrees in wilmington, 63 in dover, 64 degrees in wildwood. Our city planner shows that as we go into the rest of today, 9 00 a. He sat in a chair, this chair made especially for him by some of the inmates. Before sitting down he took a good look at the chair and gave a thumbs up to the inmates who made it. After he spoke to the inmates, men and women, and their families. Dear brothers and sisters, thank you for receiving me and giving me the opportunity to be here with you and to share this time in your lives. It is a difficult time, one full of struggles. I know it is a painful time not only for you but also for your families and for all of society. Any society, any family which cannot share or take seriously the pain of its children and views that pain as something normal or to be expected is a society condemned to remain a hostage to itself. Pray to the very things that cause that pain. The pope went on to say that he was there as a pastor and a brother to share in their situation and make it his own. After he addressed the inmates he shook their hands, went down each row and stopped to speak to every inmate. He shook each of their hands row by row. Several of the inmates asked if obliged. A rumor in bensalem and it brought hundreds of people from all over to the 1600 block of bristol pike. They lined the street hoping for a glance. The site holds the National Shrine of st. Katharine drexel. Because its a short distance from the prison people figured it was true not to mention that Saint Katharine drexel was the homily during that private mass. Been salem police were on standby in case but the pope so this here was a small to see him. You figure that secret service were never able to get here to secure this, so it was more of a pipe dream than reality, i guess. Brought everybody together. As crowds waited there pope francis did surprise another group. He did make a last minute impromptu stop at st. Joseph university and met with some of the students there. As we head into wednesday, this is when we see our best chance for widespread rainfall and our temperatures will start to drop back down. Some good news is that some streets have opened. Traveling from old city trying to get to 76 west walnut was wide open so that was welcomed this morning. Starting to see improvement as well for mass transit. We had special schedules and different train stop this is weekend. Most service back to normal. New Jersey Transit resuming normal service, same for amtrak, patco on a saturday schedule but still running. The regional rails on a saturday schedule, the trolley, trains and buses with normal service circle. The ben franklin parkway closed from Art Museum Circle into logan circle. On. The students started gathering yesterday morning after they got word he would be making a trip there. They surrounded this statue behind the chapel. The crowd swelled and excitement grew. Around 3 00 pope francis arrived greeting guests including an old friend. The pope blessed the statue. The students couldnt have been more thrilled. The pope here and so close to us, such a strong feeling for us. This is one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Im overjoyed. It was crazy like i cant even i dont know. The pope. The holy water, awesome. I put it on my cross. I blessed myself. I feel extremely blessed right now. You can see and hear it was an experience that the students will never forget.
