The storms overnight have dried out for now. South jersey at 62 degrees. 50s in the Lehigh Valley but just a little bit warmer for delaware at this hour. We will see some sunshine. Well see a pretty good warmup during the day. Thats 62 degrees to start with. With sunshine breaking through, well go from the low 60s at 6 00 to near 70 degrees at 9 00. And heading for the 80s this afternoon. You may have noticed that with the sevenday forecast. For each part of our area scrolling at the bottom of the screen. The afternoon temperatures warmer than yesterday. Into the 80s for new jersey and south jersey. Afternoon thunderstorms, 83 degrees during the afternoon for philadelphia. Look at delaware, 82 degrees. Its that heat this afternoon that will likely fuel some showers and thunderstorms. Some showers to the north in the pocono mountains heading past new york. The next round of showers, way off to the northwest. Thats the possibility for later today. Theyre not quite yet to pittsburgh but theyre just moving into northwestern pennsylvania and the ohio valley. Keep an eye on that as it moves into the area. Jessica, thanks, now to decision 2016. Today is primary election day in pennsylvania and delaware and other east coast states. Heres a live look at a polling location in bristol, bucks county. The votings hours in both pennsylvania and delaware are from 7 00 a. M. To 8 00 p. M. Tonight. Why do todays primaries matter . By this time every four years we usually know who the president ial nominee will be. Its different this year. One candidate may not win a majority of delegates. Sara winski who developed the headed to the white house exhibit here at the National Constitution center says pennsylvania and delaware could be key in deciding who wins the nominations, especially when it comes to the republican race. Every delegate counts. Especially on the delegate side. We dont know really whats going to happen or if either party will be able to any candidate in either party will get enough support before hand. Winning your vote is the first step for the white house candidate who, as you heard, are really off delegates. In pennsylvania, 189 delegates are up for grabs for the democrats. For the republican, the winning candidate gets 17 delegates. There are 54 unbound delegates up for grabs. Those unbound delegates can back anyone they want. You can find out by doing a Little Research who they say theyre going to maybe support. They might say they support the statewide winner or district winner or a certain candidate. Theyre not bound to do that. Once they get to convention they can vote for whoever they want. There are 16 delegates and its winner take all. For the democrats, there are 21 delegates awarded proportionately just like in pennsylvania. So its drying out in allentown and trenton after a few showers overnight, you may have heard the storms that roll through wilmington. Those storms are completely offshore. There are more waiting in the wings, though. Look at that line moving into the cleveland area and northwestern pennsylvania. That is a possibility for later this morning, into the Lehigh Valley. Those showers wont look all impressive at 9 30. Its the afternoon showers that are likely to develop that could bring us some storms and heavy downpours. Those will be sweeping through the area later today. Heres your hour by hour forecast. 62 degrees right now in philadelphia. 81 degrees at 1 00. Still dry at that hour. As we go into the middle to Late Afternoon hours, thats when well see the storms. In the Lehigh Valley, the storms will come into play earlier. 55 degrees right now. By 2 00 this afternoon, showers will be moving through the area. Theres a possibility of some noontime showers as well. We go into the Late Afternoon hours, theres a chance of scattered showers. Ill keep temperatures in the 70s for the Lehigh Valley. On the republican side, John Rafferty is facing federal prosecutor joe peters. Attorney general Kathleen Kane who is facing criminal charges decided not to run for reelection. Your votes will have a big impact on who wins in todays primaries. Experts that weve talked to said voter turnout really matters, especially for the democrats. One political analyst suggested that a high female turnout could benefit Pennsylvania Senate candidate Katie Mcginty while a big Millennial Vote would boost bernie sanders. Nick marzano says its goal is to show young people why its important to vote. When you see members who get a chance to talk to their Council Member or state rep and realize these are folks that live down the street from them, that they can run into and have a tangible impact on their city, their eyes open up and they get hooked for life. Members of a Montgomery County church say theyre in shock over a deadly shooting during sundays services. Hundreds of people attended a Prior Service at the Keystone Fellowship Church in skippack last night. Robert braxton was killed there sunday in north wales. Were told thec shooter and braxton had been fighting. The shooting suspect is cooperating with police and there are no charges while the investigation continues. And from our delaware bureau, the Wilmington Police chief is assuring the community charges will be filed in the death of a 16yearold student. Not in my school. Not in my community. Not in my state. Nbc 10 at Stubbs Elementary School in wilmington last night. Students and parents attended a town hall meeting there. They discussed the death of amy joynerfrancis last thursday after a fight inside a bathroom at her school. And students return to Howard High School yesterday for the First Time Since her death. The police chief says there are three people of interest and charges could be filed by the end of this week. The school will hold private meetings tonight and tomorrow night for parents and students. A Philadelphia Community took their message to the streets as they demanded traffic lights and safe intersections. Residents last night rallied at the intersection of 56th and wister streets in east germantown. They say there have been a high number of traffic accidents in the area and demanding officials conduct a traffic study. Neighbors want adequate traffic controls installed to prevent more accidents. Of course we all want safer roads out there. Lets check in with first alert traffic reporter Jessica Boyington who has a look at conditions along interstate 95. Were watching 95 right now, of course, not seeing many delays but were seeing more traffic out there than a lot of the other majors. This is around girard avenue, no problems in either direction yet. As you can see, southbound from woodhaven road to the vine street expressway, at least right now, astill only a 13minute trip and speeds into the 60s. The pennsylvania suburbs you may see late morning showers develop. 75 degrees and those showers will keep temperatures into the 70s at 3 00 in the afternoon. The Lehigh Valley, same story, dry to start with for the morning commute. No issue at all. 58 degrees. Near 70 degrees at 11 00 with a chance of thunderstorms rolling through into the 3 00 hour, 76 degrees and a possibility of more scattered showers and thunderstorms. As you can see, it will not be an allday rainfall today. You may want to take the umbrella with you this morning. In delaware by late this afternoon and this evening, the showers and thunderstorms developing. New jersey, same story, 77 c degrees. The afternoon temperatures peak in the 80s. 77 degrees by 11 00 in the morning. Dry to start with but during the afternoon showers and potentially heavy thunderstorms rolling through. Even at the shore it will be cooler, youll still see the showers and thunderstorms develop during the afternoon and into the evening hours. Where are they right now . Well, theyre just to the north. The first round of showers came through overnight is now well offshore. The next round of activity looks really impressive on the radar. This first line is largely going to fall apart as it moves into the area. But during the afternoon, thats when well see the heating take place. Thats when afternoon storms will develop. 3 30 in the afternoon. Look at those heavy downpours. Could see more than a quarter inch in pottstown by then, topping a third of an inch of rain in trenton. As we go into the evening hours, we could see closer to threequarter inch in parts of south jersey. The wilmington area, rainfall, too. You can see how a small change in the area, just a few miles, will make a big difference in how much rain youre going to see.
