New from overnight, north broad street is now open after a violent crash shut it down for three hours. A car hit several parked cars and then that car went up in flames. Right place at the right time and based on that dramatic video, quite possibly it saved this drivers life. Take a look at that video here. One of the officers described it as a fireball, a car engulfed in flames. Police tell us the car was going south on broad street at wyoming. Sped over the center median, went out of control, hit a parked car and a van. This happened just after midnight. One of the officers from the 39th district happened to be driving down broad at the same time and saw the crash right after it happened. I couldnt see anyone in it because he was laying down cross the front seat. I wondered if maybe he had fled. But as i got closer i saw that he was inside. He was inside and that 47yearold driver had to be revived on scene. He was rushed to einstein where he is now stable with a concussion and some facial injuries. This is what the car looked like. A lot of damage there. This was right after that fire was extinguished. The vehicles were towed away about an hour ago. This stretch of broad street at wyoming was shut down for quite a while. Cars are driving down. It reopened about an hour ago. For now, im live in nicetown, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. Police in Delaware County are continuing to investigate a hit and run crash that landed a person in the hospital. Skyforce 10 was over the scene in prospect park. Police tell us the driver hit a pedestrian at chester pike and route 420 and then kept going. Officers pursued the car and eventually arrested the driver. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital. Were still working to get an update on that persons condition. Philadelphia police shot and killed a dog that was attacking a woman in the citys point breeze section. Last night officers arrived on dickinson street and found the dog biting a woman. Thats when they shot and killed the animal. The woman was treated for a bite wound. Happening today, Vice President joe biden will visit philadelphia to receive an honer from a local organization. The World Affairs council of philadelphia will present the Vice President with their annual atlas award tonight. The council is honoring the Vice President for his leadership of the president s Cancer Research initiative. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is praising his state educators for boosting test scores. Philadelphia, 60s to start with, 70s this morning. 80 degrees this afternoon with winds coming out of the east at 9 miles an hour. A few scattered clouds this morning. Lots of sunshine during the day. Any fog disappears from the suburbs, 76 degrees by lunch time and then near 80 degrees this afternoon and the lehigh valley, you can see the fog this morning and some clouds as well. C. , several faithbased groups and Voting Rights activists launched the together we vote campaign. The coalition plans to recruit and train 15,000 volunteers, then send them to registered voters in battleground states like florida, ohio and in pennsylvania. We are going to talk to 1 million voters, in particular, those voters that have been ignored or not considered as relevant. Voters rights advocates are getting help from the court. A series of rulings softened voter restriction laws in several states. The battle against the zika virus is on in florida. Health officials sayc its tou to stop in part because of the type of mosquito species blamed for the outbreak in miami. Workers have been blanketing a one square mile section just north of downtown miami with insect repellent trying to get rid of the zika carrying predators. An Associated Press investigation looked at 25 studies that compared teeth brushing with both teeth brushing and flossing and the studies show little evidence that flossing effectively removes plaque.
