Breaking from overnight. Apartment goes up in flames leaving people out in the freezing cold. Eight families without a home. Digging out. The winter storm led to more dangerous conditions for morning commute. In the dark. Thousands without power in jersey and delaware as the storm leaves behind damage. Good morning. Welcome to nbc 10 news today. Im tracey davidson. Im vai sikahema. The storm may be gone. The impact is still being felt this morning. Hundreds of schools closed or opening late. Find the list scrolling at the bottom of the screen. Live look at center city. Drivers returning to roads. Live look at cape may. Area saw a mix of wind and rain that caused flooding and Power Outages up and down the coast. Team coverage, nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter Jessica Boyington is tracking the road conditions. We begin with first alert meteorologist bill henley with details on the frigid weather. Vai, the snow, the rain, the sleet may be gone, but the frigid wind is still with us and that is going to get stronger during the day. Theres a dry view of philadelphia. Cold and windy. The wind right now making it feel like 9 degrees in philadelphia. Look at wilmington, 6, 7 in allentown. Coatesville feels two 2 degrees this morning. New jersey not much warmer. 11. Those winds are really moving. 25mileanhour. 32mileanhour at the shore. Trenton, allentown. Topping 20 miles an hour. To start with this morning. I expect these wind gusts could top 40 miles an hour this afternoon. And with ice still on many trees and trees and tree limbs weakened from storm yesterday, we could see more power outage and damage this afternoon. Definitely have to bundle up all day long. Few snow showers this morning. Few flurries were seeing this morning in the suburbs. 22 degrees in philadelphia. Low 20s for new jersey. Lehigh valley and delaware with some sunshine on hold. Not going to be much of a warmup. We will likely see scattered snow showers develop late this morning. And this afternoon. The late morning showers in the suburbs then this afternoon for new jersey we may get a dusting even in delaware this afternoon with a High Temperature of 30 degrees. First, Jessica Boyington has your first alert traffic. Starting off this morning, were watching on Baltimore Pike around creek road. Route 1 around 100 crash involving a vehicle. Only vehicle involved. Closing down the northbound side of the Baltimore Pike because of it. Ambulance on the scene. Tow truck here. Fire engine. Police officers on the scene. Thats because theres word that people are trapped inside the car right now. We have to get this under control and make sure everybody in the vehicle is safe. Sky force 10 on the way to scene. Try to get a view on the top from the sky for you. Also watching a disabled vehicle out in pottstown on high street around North Hanover street. East falls watch for disabled vehicle on the southbound side of the road. Vai and tracey, back to you guys. 5 34. Following breaking news from overnight. Eight families without a home this morning after an Apartment Building went up in flames. Nbc 10 katy zachry live on scene. What are you learning about this fire. Tracey, we are able to move closer to the Apartment Building that burned overnight. Take a look behind me on the ground some of the burned debris that firefighters pulled from the scene and as we pan up, youre able to see that second floor window. That apartment where the fire started. I did just talk to the Property Owner who was out here. He tells me he is hearing reports that people inside this Apartment Building were using matches in the overnight hours and thats what may have sparked the fire. Were still trying to confirm that with the philadelphia fire marshals officer. Lets go to a picture that one of the first responding firefighters took when they pulled up to the scene. See flames leaping from the building. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control, but in all of craziness here. Eight families forced out into the bitter cold. Frigid temperatures. Some of those families have small children. The good news is that seven of those families found other places to stay overnight because they cant go back into this building. One family was assisted by the red cross. So theyre being helped out for the time being. One individual in the Apartment Building taken to einstein hospital because he was suffering from smoke inhalation. Told by several people who know him he will be okay. Then lastly pets inside who didnt get out during the fire. Some red paw emergency they care for pet came back and found all three pets have been accounted for. Some families breathing a big sigh of relief for a number of reasons early this morning. For now reporting live in mout t airy. Katy zachry. Nbc 10 news. Look at that. In south jersey, ice and wind caused power lines to park in audubon. This morning. 5,000 people remain without power in south jersey. Nbc 10 Pamela Osborne joins us live with a look at the damage in oaudubon. Pam . Reporter when we were driving through this neighborhood, we could see at least one of those down trees had been taken care of. As you can see. A lot of cleanup left to do this morning. This tree came down into a neighbors yard. Looked like it missed the majority of the house there. See some damage to the top part of the roof. If you follow that damage back to where the tree actually broke, youll see where it snapped in half and low hanging wires are now because of it. This storm did quite a bit of damage. Take a look at this picture. Giant branch fell on top of the subaru. The Fire Department got a lot of calls like this yesterday. Within a four hour time span, they responded to 25 calls of downed poles on route 30. Wires came down across the road. Police had to close that down temporarily until power cues could get oat poll heres what he saw in his neighborhood. All these branches are laiden with a thick coat of ice. Were without power. A lot of this town is without power. Again the ice causing things to snap just as he said. Thousands of people without power yesterday. I just checked the pseg website. About under 1600 people currently without power here in camden county. As i said, a big cleanup job still left ahead. Reporting live in audubon, pam osborne. Working to restore power across the region in delaware. Almost 11 thousand outages. Peco says 200 in delaware county. U. S. Postal Service Plans to resume normal service today. Baltimore pike. Route one around 100. Creek road. Also watching another crash. And moving down to east falls. This is a little bit of snow shower activity this morning thats going to die out. This afternoon, expecting to see more snow showers develop. Look at the clouds back in here. Snow off to the north and west. This is 11 30 this morning. This afternoon that we will likely see snow showers develop. First in the suburbs and then drive through philadelphia and then into new jersey and then pushing offshore by this evening will be drying out and cooling down. Not a lot of snow here. Just enough to give some neighborhoods a dusting, a quarter inch or less. Pothstown may get closer to half an inch. Voorhees closer to a third of an inch. Not much more on top of what is already on top of the ground. A cold windy and snow shower too during the day for philadelphia. Suburbs and lehigh valley. Those winds will make the temperatures feel like theyre right around 10 degrees. Even in new jersey. Voorhees and hammonton. Up to 30s degrees this afternoon. Dry during the day at the shore. Late this afternoon in the evening you may see a snow shower below threw. Snow showers are a possibility again. Just a dusting possibly in wilmington. Most of the day dry. That goes for each of these neighborhoods. Most of the day it is going to be dry. Also very gusty winds that could bring down more branches during the day today. 29 today. 34 tomorrow. 40 on friday. Warming trend continues on saturday. Thats where it ends. Few rain showers on saturday. Low 40s for sunday, but well get closer to 50 degrees with sunshine on monday. Another round of rain showers on tuesday and chillier weather thursday. Wednesday and thursday its finally into the into the 50s next friday.
