Watch out on the ben franklin bridge, heading westbound into philadelphia with that construction, and once you get there fallen cables on lincoln drive due to an earlier downed tree as well. Heading to the shore now where flooding is a major concern, water surged into the streets in ventnor yesterday during high tide. Today were expecting the flooding to be even more significant. Reporter well, were here along the beach and you can see just behind me that weve got water coming up all the way up to the dunes. So this is at least 50 to 100 yards from the surf itself, from the ocean, so you see what the flooding has done, what the rainfall has brought into this area. We could also point out that its quite windy here as well. You might be able to see the raindrops in the lens of our camera, whipping by us. We have been experiencing quite a few wind gusts in this area. Like i said, if we come to the right you can see the dunes, weve got the water coming up here. This is just the flooding. This isnt the ocean surf coming up. This is just water thats ponding along the beachline here coming up to the dunes. As bill was saying we expect beach erosion out here. Heres the thing, folks. Low tide down the jersey shore is about a half hour from now so we should be seeing a lot of this recede but because of the rain that were seeing this is the flooding that were experiencing and high tide is around noon so this could certainly get worse as the day progresses so. This is almost the best of the situation that we are going to see so far today. But of course, as weve gone up and down the coastline, the major roads do not look too bad. The category 4 hurricane is causing widespread flooding and some people refuse to leave their homes. Now officials are amending laws to make evacuations mandatory. Sandbags are piled along acavenue blocking every doorway. Business owners arent taking chances as the shore prepares. Neighbors say its an unsettling sight and reminder of hurricane sandy. And a community hit hard by sandy is taking joaquin seriously. The mayor will update on the preparations this morning on the ortley beach board walk which suffered major damage during sandy. South jersey Utility Companies say they are ready. Atlantic City Electric is monitoring the weather and the forecast for the hurricane. Now its 5 06. We have new information this morning on yesterdays massacre at that Community College in oregon. We learned that the gunman died in the shootout. A neighbor described him, 26yearold chris mercer, as quote really unfriendly. The shooting happened yesterday morning on the campus of umpqua in the town of roseburg, 180 miles south of portland in southwest oregon. We are one they said. Thats in roseburg last night where dozens gathered near the campus for a candlelight vigil to honor the lives lost. Witnesses say mercer who was not a student at this college, just walked into a writing class, shot a teacher in the head, then told everyone else to get on the ground. Survivors say he then started asking people to stand up and state their religion. Before he sprayed them with bullets. In the end, ten people were killed including the gunman, seven injured. And survivors are struggling to find words to describe what happened. So many emotions going on right now that i dont my i dont know. My heart hurts for the the people that have passed.
