What happened with these three recent cases, two in pennsylvania, one in delaware, the women arrived back in the states with the virus and officials right now, theyre only saying these women travelled to areas affected by the outbreak. The pennsylvania secretary of health says that the cases here do not pose any threat to the public. The zika virus is transmitted by mosquitos. It is mostly happening in soj and Central America but now we are seeing these cases pop up here in the u. S. Because of people traveling over there. A doctor specializing in Infectious Disease tells us that its theoretically possible that come summertime, our local mosquitos could spread the virus but the chances are minimal. Either way, it is likely this virus will eventually show up in all 50 states. It is different than the last big outbreak that we saw with the ebola virus. Take a listen. Zika virus is usually gone from the blood in a couple days after the illness is resolved. It doesnt represent a risk to spread from person to person in the way that ebola does. It doesnt spread easily and its unlikely that it will spread to any significant degree in the u. S. Reporter the zika virus usually presents mild symptoms. But for pregnant women theres an added risk of birth defects. The symptoms include fever, rash, joint and muscle pain, conjunctivitis and a headache. The Delaware Department of health will talk more about its first zika case in an adult female. The Department Says it is travel related. Pregnancy is not an issue.
