Minutes. Bill, now lets talk about day four of the septa strike and the headache its causing for commuters. First alert traffic reporter Jessica Boyington is watching the rails and the residual effect on the roads. What are you seeing . Right now, obviously, no septa service through center city. No broad street service, marketfrankford, buses, trains or trolleys. We expect delays on the Regional Rails, as weve seen all week. Ill predict it will be lighter today but i cant make promises there. Route 309 on the southbound side around norristown road. You can see flashing lights over here. Thats because theres an accident scene up ahead. They just moved the camera out of the way. You can see cars moving by every once a while. Also in paulsboro, theres an overturned tractortrailer, 295 northbound around exit 19, mantua grove road. Youll have a lane blocked there or so. If youre moving towards trenton, you may have to slow down. Other than that, youre good to go on 95. Vai and tracy. Today is the fourth day of the septa strike. Subway, bus and trolley drivers are on strike. Today will be a frustrating friday for people who rely on septa to get around. Nbc 10s matt delucia is live in fern rock this morning with more on that. Matt . Vai and tracy, same thing, different day. A lot of these folks are starting to get used to it unfortunately. Theyre getting used to having to find other means of getting around, other means of transportation. Ones those options will be the Regional Rail. You see already folks here getting ready for that train thats just arriving, coming about a quarter mile up the track here. Its going to be more momentarily. Both sides, septa and the cuni, talked late into the night once again. It was back and forth in the court of public opinion. Septas chairman issuing a statement saying the union wasnt engaging in good faith negotiations. The union blasted septa saying they have been prepared to bargain day and night and wont apologize for trying to get Affordable Health care for members and families. Riders tell us they want the whole thing to end. I get off work, i have to walk up to 78 own ogant. Its too much to handle. How far do you have to walk . Its about 20 blocks. You have to do that every morning . Every evening. My son brings me in the morning but hes working when i get off. The morning isnt too bad. These folks getting on the Regional Rail now. The trains are pretty empty as we can see. The afternoon is a different story. People have to deal with the overcrowding. The union believes that septa should be more focused on reaching a settlement than being worried about the election. Septa has been saying they are going to be filing for an injunction to force striking workers to go back to work on election day. Well be following that in the days to come. Flames broke out at about 9 45 on sheldon street in olney. Fire crews on the scene within four minutes. First responders rescued the two children from inside the home, rushed them to local hospitals. They took one child to einstein medical center, the other to st. Christophers. Always difficult to locate people inside a burning building, you know, depitt what you see on television, you cant see anything. There is a lot of smoke, the smoke is down to the floor. You literally can see nothing. Both children were rushed to the hospital in extremely critical condition. Investigators are trying to determine if anyone else was in the building. 5 05. Lawmakers will hold hearings in trenton to look into new Jersey Transit management operations, funding and safety. The hearings come in on the wake of the september 29th train crash in hoboken that killed one person and injured more than 100 others. Today, a joint assembly and Senate Committees will hear testimony from new Jersey Transit executive director steven santoro. According to several reports, the central pennsylvania man who Jerry Sanduskys lawyers believe is victim number two is scheduled to testify today in the former penn state coachs bid for a new trial. Victim number two is long believed to be the boy who assistant coach mike mcquery said he saw sandusky sexually assault in a shower room in 2001. Sanduskys lawyers allege prosecutors hid the man at trial because his story didnt match mcquerys. The government has hit penn state with a record fine of more than 2 million for not reporting crimes related to the sandusky case. The u. S. Department of education says the university violated the cleary act, which requires campuses to report campus crimes and warn people if their safety is threatened. This follows a cfiveyear investigation which cited penn state with ten violations. Penn state Officials Say they are reviewing the findings. Bureau police have busted one of the most dangerous and biggest suppliers of heroin putting a dent in camdens heroin epidemic. Operation inferno has netted 15 arrests including fernandez rivera, nicknamed gordo. They said he ran an operation that fed the habit of hundreds of users. Gordo is in custody in puerto rico. Atlantic citys mayor says the city has given the Christie Administration new details about its financial turnaround plan. Mayor don guardian says the city submitted complemental information about Atlantic Citys fiveyear plan. Guardian did not offer specifics. He says he hopes the new information will persuade the state to accept the plan and avoid a stay takeover. Yesterday, state, local and federal leaders announced 22 million in grants for projects to reduce flooding in wildwood and in north wildwood. The money will pay for drainage improvements on pacific avenue in wildwood to redirect storm water from vulnerable areas. The money will also fund a new pulp station and other projects in north wildwood. Seeing all that water there, we had a little bit of rain yesterday but most of the rain has moved out. All of it. By lunch time, though, afternoon temperatures will be hanging in the very low 60s, upper 50s. See 57 degrees in new jersey. Thats at noontime at 59 degrees at the jersey shore. And the weekend, well, we have sunshine. A few scattered clouds in the Lehigh Valley but mainly sunny skies for the rest of the area. And not as chilly as it looked like it was going to be earlier in the week. Well be in the upper 50s and low 60s again on sunday. A nice weekend ahead. Were watching for extra volume moving into the city because of the cars on the roads or extra cars on the roads with the septa strike under way. Moving through camden, no problems, up and over the bridges. Also the bridges are fine. Tracy . This morning, the struggle continues for septa riders trying to get around. Its been crazy. Talks that resumed last night continued into the Early Morning hours. But still no settlement. Those talks are set to pick up again later today. The septa strike is having different effects on commuters depending on where they live and the nature of their commutes. Some of septas busiest hubs are like a ghosttown. Quieter than normal but still with some activity. The station sits on the opposite ends of the marketfrankford l. Businesses say foot traffic is down, so theyre losing money. People we talked to at 69th street told us its taking them longer to get to work even if their suburban train or bus routes are still running. My wait is an hour from the airport to here with all the stops. Its been crazy for the past two days, i have not been getting to work on time at all. The woman you just saw tells us she can still take the norristown highspeed line to get to king of prussia but she has to take uber to get to the terminal from her home in southwest philadelphia, doubling her morning commute. Now to an nbc 10 exclusive. The government is gearing up for an unprecedented effort to protect the country from some sort of cyber attack on election day. The officials with the department of Homeland Security and military, the Intelligence Community tells nbc news they are worried about one of three scenarios,c one, an infrastructure going down, like the power grid, part of the internet going down or an attack disabling communications and transportation in critical swing states. Intelligence officials stress they have no specific warning about an election day attack. Voters have until tuesday to get their ballots back to the county in montgomery county. Nearly 30,000 absentee ballots went out, so far, only about 34 of those have been returned. Election day is four days away. Both candidates are making their final pushes for the battleground states, including pennsylvania. Hillary clinton will spend her final night before the polls open right here in philadelphia. She and her husband, bill clinton and their daughter chelsea and president obama and the first lady, Michelle Obama will be here in philadelphia for an election eve rally on monday night. Were watching Chestnut Hill west 812 clocking in 11 minutes late right now. With awful the Regional Rail service, especially now moving forward to the morning rush, expect some of those delays. Also watching route 309 around norristown road. Looks like they just cleared out that Police Activity on the southbound side from an earlier accident. No problems any more on route 309. Out in paulsboro, wish we could say the same but theres an overturned tractortrailer around exit 19, mantua grove road. We have a lane lost there. You can see in the map system, were still green. All lanes are moving. iards the trenton area, youll have no problems. Checking in with more new jersey roads, the 42 freeway, looking northbound from 55 headed to the walt whitman bridge. Well have a pretty good weekend, too. A fall weekend, lets check in with bill henley and find out what the weather is looking like today and through the weekend. Things are cooling down. If youre heading out, there are a few lingering clouds. Tracys right. It will clear out nicely. Those clouds brought us a few light showers. This view from the Kimmel Center is completely dry. The wind is blow, the trees are blowing and a wind that is going to stay with us during the day, sunny and breezy. Its those winds that will keep us cooler today and make for a chilly evening this evening. Well be in the 50s to near 06 degrees this afternoon. But this evening, the temperatures will drop into the 40s. We have to bundle up if youre heading out this evening. Heading out, low 50s for the Lehigh Valley. In center city with that breeze blowing, it is 55 degrees in rittenhouse, society hill is 55. Middle 50s for port richmond, penns part and graduate hospital. Low 50s in parts of the city, bustleton at Northeast Philadelphia Airport is 5. Somerton, 52 degrees. A cool start and as you can see, its not going to be a massive warmup. 61 degrees in center city. Getting close to 60 for Chestnut Hill and somerton. Sunshine will be bright in the suburbs and for the Lehigh Valley. A few scattered clouds will be blowing through. Get enough sunshine to warm allentown to 56. The wind will be persist enthe for new jersey. 60 degrees in evesham township and at the shore, right at 60 degrees for Atlantic City. A little bit breezier at the shore than in delaware. Sunny skies and 60 degrees for smyrna and wilmington. Also Rehoboth Beach with just a few scattered clouds. No sign of any rain today.
