This is light rain that has moved through philadelphia. Thanks to winds south jersey and at the shore. Rainfall, theyre starting to see a few breaks in the city. Burlington county, mt. Laurel. But thats a temporary situation. More rain in the south through cumberland and gloucester counties. Wilmington, weve seen pretty good downpours. The heaviest rain is farther to the south and southern delaware. And look at the heavy rainfall heading towards morris river past cape may courthouse. And cape may getting steady rain and windy conditions, too. Its going to keep the rain in the area, during the break. There will be breaks in the rainfall. Its not an allday rainfall. It will be, however, be all day cloud cover. Temperatures in the 50s and 60s. Not much warmer with steady win. Occasional downpours for Lehigh Valley. Rain will be steady at times inland but there will be breaks at the jersey shore this afternoon. The other factor is the wind. Thats really not going to break during the day today. And the 60s today are going to continue through tomorrow. This is not the end of the rainfall. Thats why weve issued a first alert for parts of the area. Chester county, berks county, all of delaware, the potential for heavy rainfall through friday. Heavy rain will bring a flash flood threat through parts of the area. Take a look at hour by hour where you can expect to see rainfall in a few minutes. But first, watching the traffic. Absolutely. Weve been watching on the early hours, broad street and island avenue, originally both lanes were blocked. Then one lane. Then the shoulder. Now, the accident has cleared. Were working with a bit of a jam with travel speeds in the teens now its stop go traffic bumper to bumper. And through cobbs creek, were working with road closure. Cobbs creek parkway southbound and northbound stretch between route 13 and highway 3. Again, mainly along route 13. So were watching for road closures on the north and southbound side of route 13. Be mindful of that. Very wet Road Conditions in new jersey. Very light traffic in cherry hill. Route 30 and haddonfield. Route 70 i should say. Reporter vai and atracy, weve been seeing rain all morning now. We started up in new castle. Weve seen the conditions pretty much the same throughout the area. Heavier rain at a certain point. Of course, weve got more of a steady rain. Were approaching South Broad Street in the center of town in middletown. You can see the headlights coming towards us you can see the reflection of the rain on the roads. We havent seen too much in the way of flooding. Just a little ponding on some of the roadways. But, of course, this is the kind of weather you can take it easy and just take an extra few minutes to get to where you need to go. The bigger issue that i think weve been seeing this morning is the wind. Weve seen some wind gusts in some of the areas. We see the flags whipping in the wind. Of course, as we get up this morning, it might not be a good idea to get that umbrella out right away. And as you head out to the car or wherever it is you need to go. So were going to continue going through this area here. Through new castle, actually start making our way towards newark, delaware. As of right now, traffic not too bad especially on the major highways. At least not from what we have seen to this point. Philadelphia police shot and killed a man accused of stabbing several people including one of his children. It started at the home and investigators say he assaulted his 15yearold daughter and then stabbed two other children including his 8yearold son. Both of the stabbed children are in Critical Condition. Then he went to a friends home and slashed a woman in the face and punched another woman. Well continue to follow this investigation in a live report at 6 30 this morning. We have new details about a Deadly Police shooting in suburban san diego, officers say when they confronted alfred olonggo took a shooting stance. Olongo died later. Police later identified the item in his hand as a vape device. The two officers involved in the shooting are on investigative leave. Investigators are searching for a motive after a teenager opened fire. Police have that teen suspect in custody. Authorities say he called his grandparents yesterday afternoon but was incoherent. When they went on his home to check on him, they found the teens father dead. The teacher and two students were hurt. One remains in Critical Condition. The other victims are already out of the hospital. And homeowners are learning about alternatives that may help to cut their sewer repair bills estimated to be in the thousands. Township leaders presented this to the residents last night. It including waiving permit fees and getting a bank to offer low financing. They need to fix the system. The sewer system is in bad shape after years of overflow from nearby streets. Homeowners may have to pay for repairs to the lines that lead to their property. Right now, its unclear which homes will need to have the sewer lines fixed. Im hoping that they find that theres not a lot of leakage in the homes to people. I hear it talked about in the meetings, whatever, but i havent met anybody who is putting their house on the market right now. A time line for when people will need to get the sewer lines repaired may be announced at another meeting late fall or early winter. Its 6 08. The National Blue ribbons School Program released its list for 2016 and dozens of schools in our area are on it. Blue ribbon schools are known for academic excellence. Dierry start, windy and wet. Phillies on the road this evening in atlanta, were going to see rain continue on and off through the day but the threat will be around this evening and again tomorrow. Look at the steady rain this morning. For the suburbs, philadelphia, into new jersey and delaware, and extreme south jersey are seeing the heaviest rain. But thunderstorms, those are just to the southwest after some storms popped up in delaware and into Cape May County overnight. Right now, still some is heavy downpours in northern Sussex County and delaware and moving into Cumberland County and northern Cape May County. The flood threat where the rain has been heaviest overnight. 4 to 6 inches of rain on the ground. That flood threat for southern delaware, 7 15, a Flash Flood Warning into kent county until 9 30 this morning. Thats for the rain already on the ground. We will see some breaks in the rainfall. 8 30 this morning, well see showers coming up from the south there will be some dry periods into new jersey, philadelphia and the suburbs. But theres more rainfall ahead as we go through the day. By 1 00 this afternoon, that steady rain returning to delaware. Some of the heavier downpours expected to move through delaware and suburbs. Ive issued a first alert for the today, tonight and again tomorrow. For the day today, sunshine on hold. Clouds and rain and 60s, with gusting winds. We will see a break in the rain, break in the clouds not all that likely. 61 at 9 00, 64 at 1 00, steady rain at 5 00 this afternoon. The winds will be hanging into the Lehigh Valley. Youll see gusty winds. 50s to start with, mostly cloudy skies at 1 00. Rain showers return during the Late Afternoon hours. Delaware, look at the winds at the 5 00 hour. Youll see gusts in new jersey, and interior new jersey as well. You wont see the rain all day. Scattered showers at 1 00, and a chance of steadier showers at 5 00 this afternoon. Its a very active scene on the roadways. Right now an accident in east norriton. Swede road. Also watching for road closure from an earlier accident. Cobbs creek parkway. Route 13 and highway 3. Yesterday, David Wildstein who pleaded guilty to conspiracy in this case said governor Chris Christies staff tried to purge democrats who worked for the Port Authority of new york and new jersey. And as political retaliation against ft. Lees mayor for not endorsing christie in the election. Earlier this week, wildstein testified that the governor knew about the lane closures as it it was happening in 2013. Christie has never been charged in the scandal and insisted he did not know about the lane closures at the time. Yesterday, he was in jersey for a ribbon cutten of a Pharmaceutical Company and phrased the company. Two men are being recognized for calling police after finding a backpack full of bombs. Officials in elizabeth honored the pair with keys to the city. They found the backpack with five bombs stuffed inside a trash can in elizabeth. They went to police. Fingerprints on the backpack helped authorities pinpoint ahmad rahami as the suspect. Hes accused of leaving the backpack in elizabeth and setting bombs off in seaside park and Atlantic City. The video shows one of the men taking a Pressure Cooker bomb out of the suitcase that was left on the sidewalk, then seen walking away with the empty luggage. The bag was allegedly planted there by rahami. The fbi says the two men are now overseas, they would like to talk them but say theyre not suspects. Thats a live view from center city. The flags are blowing with a steady light rain but it feels like its coming down much heavier thanks to the wind. You can see it with the camera shaking, the view from the marquis de lafayette hotel. The rain is blowing through the area this morning. We should see some breaks in the rain this afternoon, but the wind is now 22 miles an hour in millville. 22 miles an hour in Atlantic City and elevated wind level through this afternoon and evening. Rain through Lehigh Valley through the suburb, philadelphia, new jersey, the heaviest rain has been to the south. Just past morris river you can see see the heavier showers streaming to the north. Cape may, a steady rain. By far, the heaviest rainfall in southern parts of delaware. Kent county and Sussex County, this is where weve seen Flood Warnings go up. One Flood Warning is up in less than an hour from now. But flooding can occur that far especially in kent county where the Flood Warning neck until 9 30 this morning. Heres why. Doppler estimated rainfall, 7 1 2 inches or just above for eastern Sussex County. Close to 6 inches in the northern part of the county and kent, 4 inches. Compare that to cape may and Cumberland County nowhere near as much rainfall as were seeing this morning. Showers didnt move that much. But farther to the north rainfall totals much lighter. So the chance of showers going to continue through the weekend. Showers most likely on saturday but i cant rule out scattered showers especially by sunday morning. By afternoon, well likely get breaks of sunshine. Thats when the temperatures will start moving up. 10day forecast, were parked in the 60s. There will be breaks in the rainfall especially this afternoon and later this afternoon but still a potential for heavy downpours into friday. By saturday, more scattered showers. 67 degrees in the afternoon. And then into the 70s with some sunshine. And well need sunshine to get into the 70s. It stays cloudier or the showers linger a bit longer, it wont be quite that warm. But i think well see that improvement late on sunday. And then the nicest day, going to be monday. High of 76. A few more clouds around for tuesday and wednesday. Were watching for the potential of a tropical system offshore that might spread some showers on thursday. Theres a big question mark on that for thursday. 68 degrees. Sunny skies returning for friday and saturday. 6 21, new this morning, a Philadelphia Police officer is hospitalized after his car was hit by a suspected drunk driver. Nbc10 was there when the officer was wheeled into the opt on a stretcher. Coming up at 6 30, well tell you what the officer was doing just before the crash. And carson wentz is having a good week. A budget agreement that allows the Ride Sharing Service to operate in the city expires tomorrow. Uber and lyft drivers could be pulled over and have their cars impounded. Lawmakers are trying to work out an agreement on new legislation before the deadline. And city council looking at a bill aimed the ending the wage gap between men and women.
