That begins later this morning. 13. 1 mile race and several other events today are a warmup for the philly marathon set for tomorrow. Decent weather today for the Half Marathon runners. This is nbc10 news today. Thanks for being with us. I am rosemary connors. Just after 6 00 this saturday. We get warm weather to start the weekend, well take it. Lets check in with meteorologist krystal klei, she has more in the first alert neighborhood forecast. Todays forecast looks pretty good, similar to yesterday. Were warmer than average. The average this time of year is mid50s. Were talking 60s for highs. Clouds building late in the day, we see a possibility of showers as we move into evening hours. With the evening hours rain moving in will be accompanied by winds starting to pick up. In fact, hope things are tied down for the marathon, very high winds by this evening. Then those continue through sunday. Sunday we dry out but way colder after we dry out. We have a lot of changes this weekend in the forecast. Radar and satellite, this is a wide view. It shows how well defined that system is. We have snow, purple and white on the radar. Pockets of yellow and orange are heavier showers. This is moving directly to the east. It will be heading our way and because it is moving through overnight, some parts north and west of philadelphia may see rain snow mix. Heres the big changes were talking about. Todays forecast high is 67 degrees. Way warmer than average. Sunday, the forecast high is only 48, unfortunately it will never feel like that. Best we do in the afternoon, feel like temperatures about 30 to 35 degrees. We will talk more about that and why thats happening. Details coming up. We understand accidents happen, but now you killed that 8yearold child. Thats the message a family is sending to a driver that hit their little girl. Theyre offering a 20,000 reward for information on the car and driver. Police tell us the 8yearold was walking home from school with her brother yesterday afternoon in overbrook. A driver sped through a light and hit them both. The girl died a short time later at the hospital. Police havent officially released her doinidentity. They plan to hold a vigil to remember her this afternoon. Whenever you see her, shes smiling, happiest little girl ever, has manners, always laughing. Police are looking for a silver Nissan Altima or maxima with damage to front headlight and grille. The girls brother who was also hit is expected to be okay. New from overnight, a man dead after being hit by a car walking across roosevelt boulevard in may fair. Nbc10 was on the scene where the driver did stop. The crash happened in the outer lanes of northbound side of the boulevard around 11 30 last night. Investigators tell us the driver did have the green light. This morning, a Philadelphia Police officer is out of the hospital and his twoyearold safe after both caught in a shootout. Sky force 10 over the scene in north philly. Police are looking for the young men that fired more than two dozen bullets into a neighbors backyard. The officer was outside with his twoyearold when the gunman opened fire at 10th and ogden. He took shots to the hand and legs while covering his son in the midst of the crossfire. Police tell us officer was not carrying his Service Weapon at the time and the shooter got away. I went out the door, could see them shooting through these houses. Neighbors describe the officer as a dedicated family man. Could the shooting that injured that officer be linked to a shooting nearby . Gunfire shot a man in north philly. Police tell us the victim died after being shot several times inside a car. There are no arrests in this case. Nearly 30,000 runners in center city for the philadelphia marathon. Monique braxton has a preview. Reporter it gets under way about 7 30. A few of our friends are joining us now. Activity is picking up. More people are arriving, more runners are arriving, going to be met with security thats very tight. Everyone is being searched. One of the private security firms told us theyre monitoring social media but there are no specific threats. Runners are advised to arrive early. Start of the race will not be delayed due to lines at Security Check points as happened in the past. We captured this video of runners picking up their bibs at the convention center. The city estimates 30,000 runners are participating this year. This is what the streets of philadelphia will look like in a couple of hours when the runners embark on the 23rd annual race on Benjamin Franklin parkway and through the city streets. Look at the Half Marathon course. Goes through center city to china town, moves through past liberty bell, around historic city hall and toward Fairmount Park. Parts of mlk drive are shut because of the marathon. Runners will be headed back to the finish line. Spectators can watch that 13. 1 mile race at designated cheer zones. That means theyre giving out water, folks will be entertained, doing dancing as they cheer on runners. They recommend they use clear plastic bags. All bags subject to search. Police tell us the girl was walking home from school with her brother when a driver sped through a traffic light and hit them both. The girl died a short time later at the hospital. Police havent released her doin doinlt. The family is offering 20,000 reward for information on the driver and car. Should have checked to make sure the two little kids is all right. The girls older brother who was also hit is expected to be okay. Police are looking for a silver Nissan Altima<\/a> or maxima with damage to front headlight and grille. A Philadelphia Police<\/a> officer out of the hospital and his twoyearold son is safe after they were caught in a shootout. Wednesday night, Karen Osborne<\/a> went to check on her daughters barking dog next door to her house and found herself between a mother bear and one of her cubs. She tried to fight the bear and decided to play dead. The injured woman was able to call 911 and did so calmly which may have saved her life. A bear has attacked me, im laying in the driveway.
