And welcome back to coast to coast George Norry with you along with Martin ball Martin I saw a t.v. Show years ago on the Native American who was drinking some kind of mind altering substance and after he did he was looking at this eagle flying high above him soaring would be up there he became the eagle and he was able to see things from above just like the eagle would almost like Remote Viewing do they do this when they take these kinds of substances do they have that ability to remote view for example well that it's really a question that you know some cultures but claim yes other cultures would say not necessarily. You know a lot of cultures that work with the psychedelic medicine these and the agenda. But I'm reminded of something that a friend of mine told me does and a lot of work with I walk areas in South American he said well you know my teachers who have taught me about Iowa Laska They say you know you really got to be careful because 99 percent of what you think you're getting out of the experience is it's just you putting that into the experience and so really it takes a lot of training into. Cern meant to decide well Ok so I I felt like I was an eagle looking down but was actually an eagle looking down and so difficult as might have different ways that they would answer that but that's certainly from a phenomenological perspective and phenomenology just means the study of a phenomenon without judging what is the on to logical nature of it whether it's really real or imagined or not or whatever from a phenomenological perspective these kinds of things absolutely do happen where people shift their identity moves from their own particular persona to another object another being another person potentially another time another place and so these are phenomenon that happen but then it's it's a larger question to ask Ok well then what is the reality of what's going on here and this is one of the reasons that psychedelics is such a fascinating topic of study when you were asking about questions of the mind questions about perception questions about the nature of reality because they do give access to these different experience will States and then that can help us to address these questions of the what is it then that's that's really real you know one of the things I like to use is Plato's Allegory of the cave where you know you've got these characters who were chained up in this cave and all that they can see are shadows reflected on a wall from a fire that's behind them and that they think that the Shadows are reality and then one of the one of the characters in the cage the cave is freed from his chains and he's able to stand up and look as I own no this is a projection and then he walks outside and I realize oh there's a whole different world going on out here and there's a sun and there's these things that I didn't even know existed before and you know it's always useful to point out that actually many of the Greek philosophers they were all part of what are known as the mystery cults in the ancient world in Hellenic culture where people would be served psychedelic drinks as part of these religious ceremonies and as. Very likely that people like Plato and Aristotle and Socrates and you know all of those old the loss of our cats that this is probably something that they were experiencing themselves and then after that and so all these questions and you know then we can see like in Plato's philosophy of the forms where he's talking about whether these sort of the Jim metric structures that then give rise to what we experience as phenomenal reality but that these structures are actually more important as are the Platonic Forms and it is highly likely that he developed that kind of conceptuality out of having psychedelic experiences themselves as a member of the mystery cold Why do they need these mind altering substances to do these things well for one. Because the ego is persistent and Shanae tenacious and it's very difficult to get beyond it and to see from a perspective that you might not immediately associate with and so. It then becomes a tool that allows for these kinds of shift to occur and for the simple reason that they work you know as our ancient ancient ancestors are wandering around the earth and trying to figure out well which plants are good for food and which are good for medicine and which do other things you know they discovered that certain categories of plants and fun guy radically alter our perceptions of reality in our experience of the self and our ability to perceive in experience things and so they've just been used ever since the dawn of time you know within human cultures in order to achieve these things because they're very effective and then you know we can see in cultures. Where they might live in an area where there aren't these plants unsung guy in the immediate ecological environment that that's often places where we see cultures turning to say fasting or you know doing vision quest and things where they're looking essentially to achieve similar results just using other methodology or perhaps drumming and you know back in India as I mentioned earlier that the oldest religious texts mention the use of consumption of psychedelics in order to experience somebody or union with God and the divine nature. And then we can see that as things changed in Indian culture that then we get the development of Tonto we get a development of yoga and it's these other methodology is in many ways seem to be implemented in order to replicate the original psychedelic experience but it's the psychedelic experience that actually comes prior to the development of all we might call the spiritual technologies or methodology so they're just they're used because they work at a biochemical level I mean a lot of these. Are. Very similar to our neuro transmitters and some of them. Like if we're talking about 5 actually dimethyl tryptamine or d.m.t. Or die metal tryptamine these are 2 psychedelic molecules that are found in varieties of plants around the world and that are used for religious and ceremonial purposes these are also produced in the human body and so there's some speculation about how well could go into say a sensory deprivation experience like being walled up inside a cave for an extended period of time which is part of you know various religious traditions around the world that then might your body produce an excess of Die metal tryptamine or produce in excess of 5 oxy dimethyl tryptamine that you know this is part of our natural biochemistry says these molecules are working at a neurological level and in that respect they're very different than say something like alcohol which is basically a toxin that you're taking into this system and it's intoxicating the system it's not working at a neurological level it's working more of a systemic toxic level within the body and you know a lot of these psychedelic molecules they're nontoxic their process very easily by the body and you know they're not addictive and the actually seem to in many ways produce produce more beneficial health results like studies are being done now to show that Silla side in Iowa last there can actually help read grow brain cells and generate neural connections in networks that's interesting might might be useful in treating things like all timers and dementia. And so again to do that they've been used because they work and that they produce results and it's a way that it's more effective you know if someone goes on a vision quest and fast for 4 days not everybody has a vision you know not everybody has a vision when they consume a psychedelic as well but I think the likelihood is far higher with the consumption of these things so from a practical effective standpoint I think that that's why. They have been used for so many Isn't it amazing Martin how this planet has these readily available if you want to find them but you know how to concoct them but it's it's here on the planet and it's there for you I mean and I find that the same with the you know most drugs are derivatives of plants and you know like the aspirin is the little bark for example. Things that help humans are here on the planet and I find that to be fascinating yeah it's it's almost humorous in the sense if you think about Ok so again on the whole be communicating from my own personal view that from my non to a perspective that I look at reality is what we experience as phenomenal reality is the energetic Evolution of God experiencing itself as a living being that's going through this ongoing transformation and one of the evolutionary products of that if human beings with egos and then later we're here on this planet right now we don't know who we are we don't know where we came from we don't know what we're doing we get all these extra stenciled metaphysical questions that we seek answers for and again describing to the ego that we've evolved into as a form of prison and that the key to help unlock the prison it's right there I mean it's just it's growing in the garden right there I mean it's maybe can even go back to the story of Genesis right where we got Adam and Eve wander around the garden and snake like well don't eat that tree giveth from one of the tree of knowledge it's right there so it's even encoded in Judeo good local tradition mean it's right there in the mythology that we can see that you know this idea that we don't necessarily know who or what we are but that there are elements within our environment that we can take into ourselves that can help us learn what that is and that's good in many ways is kind of a gnostic interpretation of those Judeo Christian myths of the Garden of Eden that we're trapped that we don't know who we are and so the Gnostic Christian. We're seeking after enlightenment versus favorite became Catholic or the Eastern Orthodox tradition which focuses more on what is defined as salvation as Jesus as your savior whereas the in the Gnostic traditions Jesus is more depicted as a spiritual mentor kind of more like a Buddha figure that someone who is there to help you achieve enlightenment and learn the true nature of yourself which in gnosticism is defined as you know that you are sort of a shard or a fragment of the Divine Light of God and that you you're trapped in this prison of thinking that you are this person that you are that actually you are the divinity and so it's realisation of that within yourself and then Jesus would be held as the ultimate model of that all right let's go to the phones now or go to our wild card line Thomas is with us in the Hall Yes California hi Tom Hi George thank you for taking my call and thank you I want to like knowledge you for well your tribute to the 2 comedians who died this week. Jerry Lois and Dick Gregory It's just amazing that they died in such a short space. Thank you and my amazing discussion on psychotropic psychedelics and natural substances and ego but I'm wondering if there's another way to well aberrate the ego and that's roleplaying and acting. I'm reminded of the Jason Bourne movie The Bourne I
