The threat of falling bricks on the Upper East Side, still causing trouble tonight and it will likely last through the entire weekend. Tonight, crews are on the scene removing bricks from buildings by hand. Good evening. Christine is off. Lou young is live on the Upper East Side where the trouble began on monday. Lou . Reporter four full days since this urban avalanche avenue. Why the holdup . They are worried about the bricks on the upper facade waiting to fall below. Tonight, they are literally unbuilding it. The scaffold started moving first avenue, a plan to remove brick. As merchants and residents watch, many remember what it was like monday night when they started to come down on their own. Since monday nights rain of bricks, this part of first avenue has been closed. Several apartment buildings the problem is unusual. A whole section of brick pulling away from the building its attached to. Engineers decided to pour glue into the gap to keep bricks in place temporarily so they can be taken down by hand, a time consuming process no one is apologizing for. Listen, i dont want to keep first avenue closed longer than anybody else does, but it has to be right and has to be to the safety of the people and the workers. We didnt have anybody injured the first night. Im not going to have anybody injured as we go through the process. Im glad they are trying their best to make it safe. Im not happy that its taking so long, because were losing a lot of money as a business. Reporter next week, the city promises will be better on first avenue. Police identified one suspect as 20yearold blake karrington. They had arrested a group of teenagers last night, but later cleared them and released them. Arson suspect. Police say he set three trash fires on austin street in investigators say the man is not a suspect in the recent same neighborhood. Continues. People all over the city are enjoying it. Now its in demand and trendier than ever in whats being seen as moonshine mania. Moonshine is sort of where everything begins. Reporter were talking whiskey, not the more commonly known aged variety happening in these barrels at the kings county distillery, but the stuff straight from the still. Moonshine. Its kind of the precursor to what bourbon becomes. Reporter moonshine is unaged whiskey. The name comes from its illicit background, brewed and sold literally by the light of the moon, undercover during prohibition and always out of sight of the tax man. And its generally not known for its taste, until recently. Narrow cut of what comes out of the still, which ultimately yields a much more expensive, but much smoother and more palatable spirit. Reporter the 6yearold brooklyn distillery is light years from the back wood still. This carefully tended operation boils and ferments about 3 tons of corn weekly. Its combined with barley into a mash thats cooked and the liquid moves through the pipes and coils. The vapors cool inside the contraption and the alcohol runs out. Everybody has a different type of moonshine. Ours is made out of fruits. Reporter at the port morris distillery in the bronx, the moonshine takes on a latin flavor and is called patorro. Every time i say moonshine, they are making a lot of different faces, until they taste it. Reporter port morris started their production in this home made still. Today they vastly upgraded and produce three kinds of moonshine thats sampled and sold in their tasting room. Some trendy bars, the very upscalelooking manhattan moonshine. Cocktail bars and restaurants are always looking for the next product. They are always looking for the next flavor. Reporter this oatbased moonshine has even made it to the top of the cocktail menu at shortys bar. If we can create something that is just a little bit different, a little bit more complex, and in a lot of ways a little sexier for people, thats something that they will start to flock to. And the distillers are not only working to perfect their spirits, they are also making a sound business decision in bottling moonshine.
