He disappeared tuesday when his fishing boat sank in sandy hook channel. State police used sonar to locate the submerged boat. Reporter prosecutors say this case exposed an apparent campus tradition during which seniors competed to see how many under classmen they could have sex with. 19yearold owen was cleared of felony rape but was convicted of lesser sex offenses. The young woman then 15 says he forced himself on her at st. Paul school in New Hampshire two days before he graduated in 2014. A jury of nine men and three women took eight hours to reach their verdict. The boy was acquitted of the most serious charges against him felony rape but was found guilty of three counts of misdemeanor Sexual Assault using a computer to lure a endangerment. One teenager was found sex with another teen. We hope that this will send a message to future cases and victims that will allow them the strength and courage to come forward. Reporter during the trial, labrie testified they had consensual sexual contacted but not intercourse. I thought to myself maybe we shouldnt do this. It wouldnt have been a good girl. Reporter but the accuser, now 16, testified that labrie assaulted her after she said raped [ crying ] i was violated reporter prosecutors said the rape was part of senior salute, labrie described it to detectives as a competition during which seniors have sex score. In court labrie admitted to bragging to friends that he had sex with the girl but said it was a lie he told to impress them. Under crossexamination, she her shirt and pants. In the wake of his arrest, School Officials say they will expel anyone participating in any game, tradition or practice of sexual conquest under any name. Labrie an aspiring minister was harvardbound but his arrest put that on hold. He faces as much as 11 years in prison and will have to register as a sex offender. All of florida is watching Tropical Storm erika as it hits the dominican republic. Drivers lined up for gas in miami. Forecasters predict it will be a Tropical Storm when it hits florida on monday but the governor isnt taking any chances. And boy, its put down a lot of water and its continuing to look like a very disorganized system. Little to the southsouthwest of the dominican republic. And you really dont see that look of a hurricane or a real Tropical Storm which starts to wrap itself around look like a its torn apart now. Vicki gardner was being interviewed on wdbj wednesday morning when shooter Vester Flanagan opened fire. She was shot in the back and as a result she lost a kidney and part of her colon. Her supervisor says when gardner woke up from surgery her first thought was for the families of the two journalists. Earlier today the father of reporter Alison Parker paid a visit to his daughters station in roanoke. I, you know, met the people that she would be with and the people that really loved her and it was, um, it was um, profoundly difficult for me. Flanagan was fired from the station two years ago for poor performance and conflicts with employees. Today the Shopping Plaza where the shootings took place reopened for business. I saw the accident happen that he hit her and left and just reporter 79yearold Joan Mendelson got caught up in a police chase hit by a gold sedan being pursued by prison woman and crashing his car into a fence. The pedestrian who was hit is severely injured in the hospital. She is critical. Reporter car parts, broken the scene. He lives alone across from the park. Very sad. Reporter neighbors were horrified to hear about mendelson who they say took her poodle for a walk daily in arthritis. She was very slow. She is small and very frail. Reporter Police Caught young. He is charged with eluding police, assault with a vehicle, and knowing leaving the screening of an accident where there was serious bodily injury. His bail is 100,000. Mendelsons life was changed forever. Her dog was not injured. The womans family came to be by her side after a routine walk turned tragic. Meg baker, cbs 2 news. Another car was also hit during the pursuit. The driver and passenger were taken to the hospital with nonlifethreatening injuries. Today the sports world is mourning the loss of a legendary coach. Al arbour the architect of the islanders dynasty that started in 1979 who coached the team to four straight stanley cup titles died today at the age of 82. Steve overmyer with an extraordinary coach. Reporter absolutely because of the way he coached and how he treated his players. He was the kind of coach that fans and players both adored. It wasnt just because he won. And he did a lot of that. It was because he respected the game and every, single one of his players. And in return, he earned his respect. If not for arbour, the islanders may well have not cups. He is still the second history. He came back to the islanders in 2007 to coach his 1500th they won. 1979. He is a hall of famer. The islanders said, al will always be remembered as one of, if not the greatest coaches to ever stand behind the bench in the history of the National Hockey league. He faces several criminal charges including harassment and sex abuse for what prosecutors say was the assault of a young Foreign Exchange student. Im shocked. Reporter travelers at Laguardia Airport reacted to news that a tsa agent 40year old Maxie Oquendo, was arrested after Port Authority police say he molested a young woman reportedly luring her into a mens restroom inside terminal b where the assault took place. Reporter a Port Authority Police Source says he told the 21yearold he needed to duct an additional screening to check for a knife and then inappropriately. The woman is a Korean Exchange student who lives in Salt Lake City but was in new york visiting friends. A traveler says flying is stressful enough, let alone having to worry about her safety. Big trucks are causing big headaches on long island. The state just turned a suburban road into a major truck route. Residents say they were the last to know. Carolyn gusoff has the story that you will only see here. Reporter they came out of nowhere. Residents who recently noticed big rigs barreling down South Oyster Bay road. A threemile stretch through syosset, plainview, hicksville and bethpage lined with homes and businesses. From her kitchen, edie started keeping a log. 36 big trucks in one morning. Im going, i dont recall seeing these size trucks on this road. Blindsided. Reporter what kinds of input did the public have . None. Reporter after digging around, she says its no coincidence. The new York Department of transportation approved a new designation for South Oyster Bay road. Its now an access highway. A previous 48foot truck limit can now be exceeded to allow trucks. Its tandem trucks. Its not only impacted the suburban feel and character, it tremendously impacts the environment, public safety, public health. Noise. Its taken a residential roadway and turned it into an expressway. Reporter the access highway application filed by in bethpage. Off the l. I. E. Its a straight shot south. The department of transportation says it notified the town of oyster bay and Nassau County but with no objections it approved the request in december. Nobody be it civic groups or elected groups ever heard of an access road request before. Reporter the legislator says the process needs to change. We shouldnt be blind sided much less the public. Reporter Officials Say they are asking the department of transportation to rescind the designation to give the public a chance to weigh in. He returned to the School Friday after marking the First Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina there in 2006. The darkness from a decade ago has lifted. The Crescent City has risen again. And its best days lie ahead. Reporter the Bush Administration said it provided more than 140 billion to help the Gulf Coast Region recover. Survivors remember other numbers, too. More than 1800 people died. One Million People displaced. And 250,000 houses destroyed. Many blamed the federal government for responding too slowly especially here in the lower ninth ward. The hardest hit area. People are hurt. People lost family things that could have been avoided. It was stressful. It was strange.
