16yearold Michael Ramos from the bronx seen in this bus Surveillance Video is charged. Police say he was on the bx15 bus when he aimed the laser light at the rear view mirror. The driver was taken to the hospital and treated for eye pain. A former Kean University student is charged with making threats against black students. Prosecutors say a 24yearold who is black was at a november 17 rally on racial issues at the new jersey school. They say that she went to a Campus Computer and posted anonymous threats on twitter against black students. And then she allegedly returned to the rally and tried to raise awareness about those false threats that she is accused of posting. Chicagos top cop is out, fired for bungling the response to a policeinvolved shooting. Gary mccarthy got his start right here in the nypd. He climbed the ranks and then took charge of newarks police department. Tonight, cbs 2s adriana diaz has more on what led to his firing. Reporter chicago mayor morning News Conference to announce new changes in the citys police department. Changes that start with the Police Superintendent gary mccarthy. This morning, i formally asked for his resignation. Reporter his ouster follows Community Unrest over the Police Shooting dead of Laquan Mcdonald shot 16 times by Police OfficerJason Van Dyke in october 2014. Video of the shooting was released last week. 13 months later. When van dyke was charged with firstdegree murder. Emanuel said mccarthy could no longer lead the department effectively. Now is the time for fresh eyes and new leadership to confront the challenges the department and our community and our city are facing. Reporter among other departmental changes, the mayor announced a new Police Accountability task force. Chicago native and former Massachusetts GovernorDeval Patrick will serve as senior adviser. Patrick once ran the rights division. Outside Rahm Emanuels office, Community Leaders called for independent oversight. The mayor calling for a special task force is kind of like the fox watching the henhouse. Overseas now a pipe bomb exploded on a highway overpass in turkey during the evening rush hour. Surveillance video shows the blast near a subway station five people were hurt. Several vehicles including a bus damaged. Investigators say the explosion happened seconds after a bus carrying police drove by suggesting police could have been the target. So far no claims of responsibility. Tense moments today as a Carbon Monoxide scare forced hundreds of students to evacuate a school in queens. Cbs 2s Carolyn Gusoff has the story from Queens Village. Reporter ps is295 in students and staff tuesday morning. A reallife evacuation that the kids found out fast was no drill. It was scary because we thought we were all going to die. Reporter all 550 students, prek through grade 8, plus special needs children, safely loaded on to buses, others on foot, shuttled to nearby ps 33 along with their teachers. Thats where parents, nervous after receiving Emergency School robo calls, gathered to retrieve their kids. They have them all in the cafeteria. Its chaos in there. Reporter i got a call that the school has an emergency. They didnt say what the emergency is. You got the parents scared. At least Say Something reporter parents who saw coned crews all morning on jamaica avenue in front of the school had a leg up on information. They said there was Something Like a gas leak or something or a manhole cover explosion. Reporter city Officials Say a coned feeder cable caught fire under the street before dawn sending smoke out monoxide seeping into the school basement. By 9 a. M. Carbon monoxide readings were high. Classrooms and hallways remain safe but coned remained on the scene all day venting and investigating. They are really not giving much information so of timm we dont even know if theres going to be school tomorrow. Where legislators always get into trouble its always the same thing. Its in their outside income and are they getting paid as a legislator or are they getting paid as an attorney . Reporter but cuomo, who himself was criticized for disbanding the Moreland Commission on corruption, says making serving in albany a fulltime job is difficult to accomplish. It requires a constitutional amendment and changing the mindset of many elected officials. Would you like to see it change, though . The cleaner solution would be fullTime Legislature, you reporter barring that, cuomo wants to see stronger disclosure laws that would require lawmakers to disclose not only their outside income, but the names of their clients. But paul newell, the man who ran against silver last time and who plans to seek his seat again says only making it a fulltime job will eliminate corruption. As long as we have legislators getting outside income and a Public Campaign finance system that depends on millionaires and billionaires we are going to be paying higher taxes and rents.
