Saying you dont want jeb bush to keep running the Family Business. Is this kind of the same thing . I mean, come on. Thats a pat on the hand compared to the anvils theyve been dropping on my head for the last two weeks. Reporter tonight, senator marco rubio is struggling to come back from that dismal debate performance. Lets dispel once and for all with this fiction that barack doing. Doing. Reporter minutes later. Lets dispel with this fiction. Reporter and later still, when asked about immigration, he went back to the president yet anyone who believes that barack obama isnt doing what hes doing on purpose doesnt understand what were dealing with here. The governor wasnt talking about the president. No, he talked about barack obama. Reporter rubio today, trailed by a pair of robots, clashed with supporters. In manchester, rubio telling me, hes staying the course. Going to stick to the lines, even in the debate theyre criticizing you for . Were not going to change our message the entire campaign. Reporter tonight, chris christie, the man who took rubio down in the debate, hoping it will pay off. He may need a New Hampshire miracle to keep his campaign alive. And tom llamas is live with us tonight from outside trumps headquarters. And tom, donald trump so often loves to talk about the polls, but today, he was sounding a bit more cautious. Reporter thats right, david, and for two reasons. Polls in New Hampshire historically sometimes are way off. And, also, the Trump Campaign learned their lesson after iowa. Some polls there had them winning and trump came in second place. David, i can tell you this, though, the donald trump i encountered after the iowa but tonight, donald trump, full of confidence. David . All right, tom llamas, leading us off again tonight. Tom, thank you. Many believe it is make or break for governor jeb bush tonight. He and his superpac spending ads. More than any other candidate. Ten times as much as donald and now he is predicting a comeback. Ive been written off, which is great. I always like that. I love the fact the pundits may not have gotten this right. Makes me feel good. And jon karl is live with me tonight. Clearly theres a lot at stake for bush tonight. His aides telling you that no matter what happens in New Hampshire, the campaign moves reporter thats right. He says he is moving on. In fact, they have eight events scheduled over the next few days in south carolina, where they will also be campaigning with former president george w. Bush, his brother, and they have one big advantage, still, david, they have more Campaign Cash than most of his rivals. All right, jon karl with us tonight. Jon, thank you. Meantime, on the democratic side tonight, an uphill battle for Hillary Clinton, who did well here eight years ago. New hampshire voters gave her new life after iowa, but this time, a different story leading in. Trailing Bernie Sanders by double digits going into the primary. Here in his own backyard. Clinton has struggles to engaj younger voters, where sanders has excelled. And heres what were learning from the exit polls coming in right now. 3 in 10 voters saying honesty and trustworthiness are the characteristics most important to them. 7 in 10 voters describe themselves as liberals. Thats higher than in the past. And more saying that income are their top issues. Abcs cecilia vega out with the sanders team and oneonone with clinton tonight. If theres a large voter turnout, were going to do just fine. Hours, the race comes down to this. Go out the door and reporter volunteers hitting the streets all right, here we go supporters planning to knock on 50 doors today alone. We took two people and got them over. Reporter but will it be enough . Here in this state that has brought the clintons so much. In 1992 New Hampshire, tonight, has made bill clinton the comeback kid. Reporter and again in 2008. I listened to you, and in the process, i found my own voice. Reporter this year, new challenges. Today, donald trump piling on, when asked what comes to mind when he thinks of Hillary Clinton. She went to your wedding. She did. She did. She did. In a certain way, evil. In a certain way, evil. Whoa. Reporter but coming to clintons defense . None other than her own rivals wife, jane sanders. That has no place in politics today. Were not going to play that game. Reporter tonight, a new question can the clintons pull off a comeback once again . Outside the clinton headquarters. Campaign sources telling you, cecilia, they are bracing for a tough night . Reporter oh, they sure are, david. Unlike before the iowa caucuses, whats happening here tonight is not being billed as a victory party. They have been long bracing for an upset here, in fact, today, clintons team sent around a list of her endorsements for south carolina, a sign, david, they are already looking to move past this state. All right, cecilia vega on this campaign every step of the way. Thank you. And a telling number tonight, by one estimate, 44 of voters here in New Hampshire saying they could still change their minds in the hours leading up to the primary. Today, i met some of those late deciders who told us which way they went and why. Across New Hampshire today, voters determined to have their voice heard. We take you inside Bartlett Elementary School in goffstown. See the activity right in here. Votering including Michael Clark jr. , a veteran bringing his son and his mother. How important is this day in new very important. Because of her experience. His mother says clinton hasnt forgotten the veterans. Because we have a lot of vets that are coming home. Going over and coming home and forgot about when they come back. Yeah, so, thats a very, very important thing. For all of them, not just my son. Reporter it was not clinton for jean claude laroche, who never misses the New Hampshire primary. How important is the New Hampshire primary day . Its a must. Reporter he said trump, christie and rubio topped his list. And today, he decided donald trump. And to the people who might say he uses colorful language from time to time . Today. I tell it like it is. Reporter vincent smith, a veteran, came all the way from ohio to rally supporters for governor kasich. Momentum. So you came all the way from ohio to get out the vote . Oh, yeah, we got an ohio brigade. Reporter and meredith hungerford, a junior in college, studying education. Her first vote. Her decision . Bernie sanders. Reporter tell me what about him. I just think hes very relatable. He knows what people want. And for me, climate change, he supports that, and he supports the middle class. I support Hillary Clinton, too, so, it was a difficult choice. More with bernie. Reporter how you doing . Reporter primary day is primary day is here. Reporter and outside, we met some longtime New Hampshire voters, who take pride in their role. You love your role as first in the nation primary . Of course. Reporter why is that . Because we get to vote. We set the pace for country. Some of those late deciders and conflicted voters deciding minute here. Lets get right to george stephanopoulos, who will lead our coverage of the results tonight as they come in and republicans. What are you watching for . Deal . 200 straight days. Digits. But we saw, as tom llamas his performance didnt match his poll numbers. Will that happen again or will he reverse that . If he reverses it, he is the strong front runner again. And then, secondly, do the results on the republican side force people out of the race or give them more incentive to stay in . And those governors, jeb bush, john kasich, chris christie, if they either go ahead of marco rubio or stay close to him, theyre going stay in this race, no matter what. And that could be good news for donald trump, if hes got this split field. And george, on the dimmic ic democratic side, Bernie Sanders way ahead. So, what does Hillary Clinton have to do here . What they were hoping for coming in tonight was pulling within double digits. The other number to watch for, does she have a clear win over Bernie Sanders. Remember, 4 in 10 of the voters are going to be independents. Most of the big contests, those are open only to democrats, if she has a clear lead among democrats, thats a sign of hope for her. Going to be a tough night for her and a real long fight ahead. All right, well be watching right along with you, george, thank you so much. Ill see you as the results come in. Stay with abc news throughout the night. George stephanopoulos and our powerhouse Political Team will break in live as the results come in.
