Tech students are ending up with big loans to pay back. Cbs 58s Kyle Aeverman looked at the impact on wisconsin students. 3 the numbers released from the Us Department of education show that more Technical College students are having a harder time trying to defaultingpart of the problem is growing tuition take Waukesha County Technical College for example tution there has doubled since 2010 to about 6,000 a year. In march the wisconsin Technical College system board, which oversees all 16 of the Technical Colleges in the state approved a tuition increase rate of 1. 5 percent. However it is the lowest number since 1970. Conor smyth with the College System says, its important to note students who complete their eduction are less likely to default on their loans, which is why they offer a number of programs not only to help with tutiion but Student Success. Sot its when they dont graduate when they have problems. So our colleges are focused on Student Success from the time they enroll, until the time an academic sucess course at most of our colleges and it continues through with special programs for veterans or dislocated workers or other non traditional students. The board is also in the process of implimenting a new state requirement that will show students the cost of loan overtime including interst.
