No more permanent alimony in florida. If lawmakers pass a pending bill there will be a new formula for cal lating your calculating your temporary settlement. Interesting changes next. Fireball in the sky. We will find out what scientists think it is coming now more first at 4 00. A bill that would end permanent alimony in florida takes a giant step forward. And the goal to take some of the sting out of divorce. Mike vasalinda has that story now from our capital bureau. Reporter alimony here in florida could soon be based on a formula that would be put in statute, it would take into consideration the number of years a couple was married and then consider the difference between the divorcing couples income. State senator Kelly Stargell of you will see a woman who know the system. They are at the mercy of their attorney in a lot of ways and saying you can get more. They did this and this and this and they perpetuate the ongoing animosity between the two and they fight and at the end of the day of the day its hard to bring two parties together to work on their common interest which would be their children and i think thats where that statement comes from. Reporter in 2007 rick scott vetoed legislation that allowed couples with a settled divorce to go back into court and seek modifications. Reporting from the state capital, im mike vasalinda. Efforts to make the change apply only to couples who get married after the law goes into effect failed. Its called a Community Garden and i went to plant city to show you how it works. Theres a huge variety of food growing here. Love broccoli, right . Fennel, celery. Reporter Karen Elizabeth is passionate about gardening. Peppers, parsley, eggplant. Reporter and so excited to spread the word about this, the new home of the plant city Community Garden on the campus of hccs plant city campus. I was looking for a way to maintain the space and keep it beautiful without letting it just be totally overcome by florida vegetation. Reporter this is what you call a winwin. Dr. Martin clay is the president of hccs plant city campus, up until last year this was a teaching garden run by the university of floridas horticulture program. But when that ended, they needed new partners and it just so happened the plant city space. Now we are working like crazy to get it built. We are so excited that the opportunity is here opportunities here are beyond reporter you can adopt one of the garden beds which are sixbytwelve feet and grow your own vegetables. If a family wants to have a bed, there is not much encouragement you need with your small children to help with the plants and the seeds and the soil. Joining us now for another look at our beautiful weather and what a great time of year garden. And eat fresh vegetables. Great idea. Today is the day to do it. Of these few months where its comfortable to be outside. Enjoy it now while it lasts. We have a nice stretch thats continuing. Also some neat video we want to show you first. Youre about to see a suspected scotland. A lot of people there went to social media to discuss possible causes of the flash of light, dashcam footage that youre looking at obtained by the Associated Press shows the fireball visible from the road. Really some neat stuff there. For us this evening, very pleasant temperatures continuing, great evening to just spend outside sitting on the deck, maybe dinner outdoors. Temperatures in the upper 60s through this evening, light winds around, just a few clouds, a dry night expected and as you wake up tomorrow morning, temperatures will be clouds building in. We will see a little bit more cloud cover tomorrow as we track a front through the region but temperatures will the mid70s for the first part of tomorrow afternoon before the front moves through. Now a lot of spots reaching into the 80s, its 80 in bartow, 81 in plant city, 80 in wye mama, 76 in brooksville. A warm afternoon, mostly Sunny Afternoon as well, no rain on the radar across the entire state of florida and we have decently dry air in place on top of us. As the front we are watching moves in, its right off to our north right now, not expecting much to develop along it. Through this evening, remaining warm, only a couple of clouds lingering. By the time you move into tomorrow morning, theres the front moving into florida so we will see extra clouds as this moves through, could see sprinkles, a very light shower but really not going to see a whole lot of rain along the front because we dont have the moisture for it to work with. This front passes quickly by out. On thursday it will be a little bit cooler, low 50s, light this front doesnt pack a very big punch so temperatures reaching back up into the mid 70s by thursday afternoon and then by friday a second front moves in, bringing us another small 10 chance of rain. Overall looking at a pretty dry forecast and temperatures remaining very comfortable over the next eight days even, notice average for this time of year, 74 degrees and we stay very close to that all the way through this weekend and as we temperatures will be reaching back up close to 80 degrees. So starting to get a little bit warm as we head into next week. For tonight, though, dropping down to 61, above average temperatures, again, that weak front approaches and our winds will be light out of the south at around 5 Miles Per Hour. Tomorrow even with the front we will likely still make it into the mid70s, it moves through, we will see a couple of showers but notice nothing more than a 10 chances of rain chance of rain in this sevenday forecast for you. As you look ahead to the weekend, you notice that is shaping up very nicely, temperatures will be in the mid to upper 70s, we will see josh. Julie, thank you much. Now lets talk about Credit Card Debt versus emergency savings. Should you use one to pay off the other . Well, 8 on your side has answers for you today. Joining me is john wax from waller and wax advisors and raymond james. This is a big topic, should we rely on credit cards for emergency purposes . Big question for a lot of people. Not everyone can do what we recommend but you really do want to rely on cash. You dont want to look at credit cards as your source. Rely on cash, take a little bit of money out of every paycheck, led this up build this up but get your cash reserve even better. Three to six months, it depends on how many different sources of income you have, whether you want to be at three months or six months. Three months is the one. I dont know where you got six months. But just have some on the side. Why is that . What makes cash reserve better than having a credit card . One of the big problems with the credit card is the interest you could use your own cash and not have to pay interest on the fact that you used it versus a credit card where maybe youre going to be in a very high level Interest Rate area and otherwise they could always cut off that credit and thats the big risk. If you look back to the 2008, 2009 crisis at the worst possible time credit was cut off to a lot of people. So you didnt have the emergency money you were relying on. So holding your own cash aside puts you in control for anything that might come up. So what happens if something does come up . You got to burn that cash reserve, then what . Its going to happen from time to time so what you want to do if that happens is stop the other purchases, the other savings or whatever youre doing with excess money and replenish the reserves. Its not bad when theres an emergency, its only bad if you dont act well afterward to replenish your reserve so that when the next emergency comes along, the money is not there. And that has happened, they freeze the card so you still got to pay the bill but you cash is king. Yes. Thank you for being with us. My pleasure. Now lets check in on your first at 4 00 sports. Dan lucas just entered the building. The deadline for nfl franchise tags happened about 25 minutes ago and there were a few handed out by teams today, but not the bucs. What does that mean . More important, what does that mean for the future of running back dug martin, a free doug martin, a free agent starting next wednesday . First and foremost it means martin is free to look elsewhere for a team next season. The issue becomes his value. The bucs are willing to let martin shop himself around the league just to see what hes worth. I believe the bucs plan on beating any offer that comes his way, i think they are going to resign martin. By not placing the franchise tag on him the bucs will not have to pay martin more than 11 million this year which is what it would have cost under the rules for his position but to guarantee martins return at this point we cannot do that fans a little uneasy. Haunt last night how about last night, big night for the lightning. They won their seventh straight game to catch the Florida Panthers atop the Atlantic Division and the guy who scored both goals in the 21 win over toronto, tyler johnson, playing less than 24 hours after he took a puck to the head in boston, the fact that he suited up was impressive. After the game johnson spoke about this whirlwind 24 hours. Left eye. Nice that we can, you know, still not really play the greatest of games, we will get a win. Three games, four nights all on the road, get three wins out of there, i think we are feeling pretty good about ourselves. I mean, it happened all pretty quick. I think it just broke the advisor and the advisor cut me so i think thats probably better than getting hit straight with a puck but, yeah, its kind of a weird thing. Johnson has had a difficult advisor vicar kept visor kept him from suffering what could have
