The governor of North Carolina declaring a state of emergency in that state after protests turn violent in charlotte. Yeah, angry protesters rampaged through the citys downtown for a second night as frustration builds after a Deadly Police shooting and conflicting stories about how it happened from police and the victims family and neighbors. News channel 8s Meredyth Censullo is in the Tampa News Center this morning with what charlotte, activated as part of the state of emergency declaration. [ chanting ] reporter and thats what it looked like for hours overnight. At one point, thousands of protesters were in the street. One protester shot another. That man is on life support. Four Police Officers were hurt. Police there using tear gas to try to break up the crowds. Some protrs down in intersections. Businesses have been looted. Windows have been shattered. Charlottes mayor is urging people protesting the death of 43yearold keith scott to keep things peaceful. The family has said to please have peaceful protests. For people not to be violent. That violence will not help bring our Community Back together. And we are urging people to stay home. Now. Some businesses are closed today. We are cleaning up this morning. And again, those First National guard members began arriving in charlotte in the past hour. The governor says theyll arrive in waves. Gayle, im going to have the latest as it comes in. And the images coming in to the news center are unbelievable. Okay, thank you, meredyth. This morning, we are working to learn more information about a car crash that killed two people late last night in largo. You can see the extensive damage here to the crash happened at brian dairy road and starkey road. We are working to find out the names of the victims. And a clearwater man is in Critical Condition after he was hit by a car while trying to cross the street. This happened just before 6 00 p. M. At missouri avenue and cleveland street. Investigators say the 56year old man was not using a crosswalk. The crash shut down parts of both roads for hours. All lanes are back open this morning. Happening today, city leaders in st. Petersburg will scandal. More than 150 milliongallons of raw sewage was dumped into tampa bay after hurricane hermine. Causing a Health Hazard for residents. So far, two the city administers have been suspend. The big question now, are more suspensions on the horizon . Ryan hughes is live at city hall. A skimmer strikes again at a bay Area Convenience store but this time, the culprit put the skimmer on the atm inside and that store. News channel 8s mary mcguire is live in bradenton. And we need to know who found the device, mary. Reporter well, gene, a found the skimming device and he later alerted Bradenton Police. Now in the past, we have reported on skimmers that have been found on gas stations outside but never on an atm inside and of the store. And in this case, investigators tell us the atm is in the back of the store where on a busy day, someone could go unnoticed for a period of time. They had to be very slick about it because nobody noticed it. Nobody i didnt know it. Reporter Bradenton Police tell us this is the first time a skimmer has been found inside and of an atm. Police are now offering common sense advice if you are using atms inside and of gas stations. Check them out. If anything seems out of the ordinary, dont use that atm. And alert authorities and alert the store clerk. If you have used this atm at this 7eleven in bradenton, make sure to check your bank and the clerks need to be more vigilant as well. Theyll come together and address heroin overdoses at 9 30 this morning. In less than two months, 43 people in the city have overdosed on suspected heroin and another unknown drug. Died. A 13yearold student is facing felony charges this morning accused of trying to poison her teacher. Deputies report it happened at the achieve center of pasco when the teenager ground up a piece of chalk and slipped the powder into the teachers coffee. Another student stopped the teacher from drinking it. Officials tell us the student will be expelled. And deputies say they have someone in custody that may know more about the murder of a man. Investigators have a 35year old in custody this morning. So far, he is not charged in connection with the murder but they suspect this person may know more about that violent murder. Deputies say he had cocaine and a stolen wallet when they caught up with him. Detectives are working the case. Scary moments for a st. Pete family when a mattress goes up in flames.
