Rate quote so at the trade deadline back on July 31st just a few days ago the big story here was that the Mets and the Cincinnati Reds couple of 2nd division teams teams under 500 in the days leading up to the trade deadline both got starting pitchers it made no sense it was illogical in the Mets they have taken off on the hostess schedule beating up teams like the Marlins in White Sox in Pirates me oh my and so the Mets are now over 500 with Marcus Stroman part of the rotation although he didn't pitch particularly well in his start against the pirates over the weekend but the Mets are thinking they can catch the wild card race in the National League and mathematically the right there things have not gone as swimmingly for the team in Cincinnati the Reds they won on Monday but they've essentially been treading water in the kiddie pool of mediocrity for some time since they picked up Trevor by our it hasn't changed all that much in that massive trade with the Reds dealing with the Indians in the Padres and all that so some have assumed that the reason the Reds made the trade was because they can convince Trevor Bauer to sign a big extension in the off season and keep him in Cincinnati for years to come could be a free agent in 2021 year left after this the very loquacious Trevor Bauer whimsical Trevor Bauer Well he has some other ideas now power has already ruffled some feathers on the Ohio River there what did he say what did he say I'll tell you. Trevor Bower reiterated his previous stance that he is not going to sign a long term extension with the Cincinnati Reds because he's not going to sign a long term extension anywhere he says the rest of his career however long that goes he is only going to sign one year contracts and then become a free agent in the reason why he wants to maintain he claims flexibility of guaranteeing he will pitch for a team that is trying to win a contender he don't want to play for a bad team he only wants to play for good teams he feels like this is a way for him with the freedom of free agency to only play for good teams now some are saying that the Reds trade for Trevor Bauer was pointless because they gave away ya some His other players and their minor league outfielder who was highly rated and they're only going to get at most a year and a half out of Trevor Bauer unless he agrees to sign as a free agent so the question should the Reds feel like they've been hornswoggled by Trevor Bauer and the only acceptable answer to this is absolutely not you've got the sugar rush Temptation Island and Home Depot. And we'll put all this into a pot and we'll make some goulash not Bob I'm going to goulash that's different right now to lead off with. Nobody m.s.p. For all people in Cincinnati including my friend any Firman who I think technically lives in Kentucky but nobody in Cincinnati can claim that they were gobsmacked by Trevor Bowers position but our has maintained this particular stance for several years he is on the Looney Tunes team he didn't just cook this up the moment he was traded to the red so it's not like the people running that franchise can say we were blindsided he has said similar things going back a couple of years in Cleve the Reds if they thought otherwise they're naive if they thought differently just Google it it's all available right there a simple Google search of Chamar Bowers name will find out that he destroyed his hand on a drone a toy drone during the playoffs and also he plans on being a free agent other some other crazy stories about power on there also but I don't think that's the wrong position if you're willing to gamble year after year and go back to the casino then that's not a bad thing right I mean why get yourself stuck in an untenable situation postseason baseball is the f. Word it's fun f. Un fun fun fun but our clearly wants that sugar rush of pitching in a pennant race which he didn't want to enough to avoid playing with drones when he was with the Indians but I digress so he wants to ensure that he will be on a winner a team that's at least trying to win in the naked truth is that many teams in baseball don't try to compete every season shout out Marlins White Sox pirates good on the list. If you get stuck in the doldrums of baseball you talk about Dullsville you're in a bad baseball team playing out the string starting in like late May who wants that Trevor Bauer is providing insurance doesn't guarantee it but it's insurance that he will not end up on a doormat and see that's the the problem is not a foolproof plan but it certainly gets the odds in your favor by the way Trevor by our had in in a spacious beginning to his Reds career he went less than 5 innings gave up 7 hits in 3 runs in a game against the Atlanta Braves over the weekend not a great 1st impression considering that the Reds are going to have to win just about every game just the boat every single game for like a mother are going to have to go on a Giants Mets type of a run situation the other 5 games under 500 and their 5 and a half games behind the last wild card spot which currently belongs to the Philadelphia Phillies more on that coming up in a minute and far as the National League is concerned now Furthermore many people are skeptical that by our will actually stick to his stance that there are these stories popping up well since the trade happened Bauer's going to leave the red high and dry and all that but there's a lot of disagreement after all if you do this it is risky business right betting on yourself gambling year after year is great until you suffer an injury a major injury and then you are disgusted and you get a minor league contract a make good contract and no real money. Not sure about our is a sea level starting pitcher he's a middle to back of the rotation starting pitchers not a number one or number 2 starter and a good team and so he knows he's not going to get a cartoon offer but what if he did what if some team decided they went on and they went on a binge drinking trip somewhere and they just said you know what screw it right why don't we just offer Trevor Bauer a ton of money if he got $1.00 of those offers I have a feeling that he would have suddenly in a Pippen e end you know year to year sounds good but he'd be singing a different song. Temptation Island man when you get that on that big offer he gets a an elephant offer like David Price got from the Red Sox David Price never wanted to pitch in Boston he despised Boston he hated the whole mindset of the Boston sports fan but guess what they offered him a good zillion dollars more than the next closest team so guess who's playing for the Red Sox right now and you can be miserable if you got $200000000.00 on your contract. Zack Greinke is another example sank Ricky never wanted to pitch in Los Angeles he didn't he's a guy from Florida he wanted to pitch in a smaller city and that anxiety issue with the royals he wanted no part of that well the doc is often the most money he picks for the Dodgers and now he's pitching for the Astros bounced all over the place he's a vagabond pitcher put very open about the fact I don't want to play a certain city unless you pay me this amount of money you would enlist Max Scherzer did Max Scherzer really want to be a Washington National know they offered him a ridiculous amount of money they persuaded him to end his free agency just like some team can persuade Trevor by our to end his noble stance of going year to year inside the last thing on this you know some other things to get through but the last thing here so teams my advisers to you should not be worried about the year to year if you are running a team if you're the general manager of a baseball team you should want this right when I become the czar of sports. The Trevor by our model will be the new norm. No more than 2 year contract imagine how much fun it would be if that was the ecosystem of sports accountability performance doesn't matter year to year it's not that bad a situation Major League Baseball players. Long term contracts but if I was running a team I would not give out a decade contract like Mike Trout has or Bryce Harper these guys over a decade lifetime contract I would do that. Human nature that's why human it be lays you need motivation stay home work hard and we've seen too many guys get these big contracts and then don't work quite as hard or become satisfied they don't put the extra work in and. You don't get what you pay for. You don't you think you get what you pay for but you don't. But here's how I relate to the Trevor Bauer story here's how I really know my entire career in talk radio I have either had no contract or one year contract now keep in mind this is not by my choice this is by management's choice but this is how it's gone and you know early on when I didn't have contracts I was essentially like a day laborer at Home Depot Ok they would bring me it out of work and then they'd and they had to get rid you know I'm a white guy and they abuse me and get rid of me and all that stuff so now each year I can become a free age and be enticed by someone to throw a lot of money in.
