New tonight, 9 investigates uncovered disturbing video between juveniles that a local Detention Center. How the safety of the youth are handled there. We found out that two juvenile officers were disciplined for improperly supervising the kids when the fight broke out, sending two boys to the er. Reporter within 20 seconds of the doors opening, a fight breaks out as 27 juveniles walks back inside with just two officers. Raymond brown, leaving upfront, and Galvin Valentine in the back. Only 30 seconds passed as the two officers try to break up the fight and call a code blue before second fight breaks out, leading to mayhem. The report shows a sergeants did show up to help but at one point in the video, you see only one officer trying to take on a handful of youth, as another comes running in to continue fighting. Even as officers appear to regain control, the fighting does not stop. I read in the report multiple juveniles saw medical staff, and at least two were sent to the er, after getting, quote, the report took four months to complete, and in the end, the officers were given disciplinary counseling for improper supervision and remain on the job. I read the officers went against protocol and allowed the youth to move inside in an unorganized fashion with no structure or control, creating distance. Making it difficult to supervise. We reached out to the department of juvenile justice to ask what more they could have done when the video shows they were clearly outnumbered, and the report shows that, quote, appeared to do what they could to break the fight up. Can a norman, channel 9, Eyewitness News. The department of juvenile justice says the safety and wellbeing of the youths number one priority. We found out the day of the fight that you son video there were more than 120 juveniles at the facility and 14 staff working the floors to handle them. That is nine kids per officer. In Volusia County tomorrow, the countys first Indoor Shooting Range combined with the restaurant and bar will officially open for business. The owner of volusia top gun in Daytona Beach says employees order drinks or enter the shooting range. Staff will also use a stateof theart Surveillance System to make sure no one who brings shoots guns. The owner told us strict rules are in place to keep people safe. There is no firearms allowed in the restaurant, period. Thats something also that no other restaurants does. He says if you order even one drink you cant come back and shoot until the next day.
